although he does go on to try and explain how it is not P2W
He does not.
He just explains the mechanics and ask ppl to base their judgement on their own experience or watching others doing the airdrops, rather then "knee jerk" reactions.
He does.
He explains clearly that the drops are not a 'win'. He clearly explains that they are a group event where anyone present has an equal chance of winning. He clearly explains that the aim is to have as many folks present at that event as possible.
If anyone can point to the part where these drops are an automatic win I would be grateful.
I am not a fan of F2P, or even Smed in general, but I am even less of a fan of knee jerk reactionary drama queens.
I'm really glad I decided to go back to ff14. Would of been in the same disappointed boat as you guys. On the bright side seems the cash shop isn't bugged from the reviews and streams I've watched. That's a plus right?
I can already see how the "hardcore" crowd will play this, you know the people, the ones that will wait until 4am to call in their airdrops so that can be well equipped to gank people who call in their airdrops during suckers hours, I mean peak hours.
This game will have so many people all salty, holy geez it will be hilarious.

How will this timing benefit them if the server has to half full (assuming that's where it ends up) to even activate the drops?
It seems SOE are putting the min server load requirement in place to stop exactly what you are reacting to. The aim is clearly to have no point in time where it's safe to call a drop.

No one in the F2P world, yes. You are correct there. But then again, I wouldn't support them either so it's win-win.
Please do not twist my words and then say I am correct. Thank you.
I explicitely said that you seem to be a sort of customer no one wants, regardless.
I see. Because I dislike blatant P2W cash-grabs? Or because I like a deep, immersive, quality gaming experience rather than a shallow one heavily revolving around a casino-style monetization model? Or is it because I dislike a company that used to have an amazing vibrant community, who wholly supported them for 15 years, only to watch them ruin the IP that built them up and devolve into producing trash games? Or, maybe, it's because I'd like to see Smed retire, Dave Georgeson become CEO of Zynga, and SOE be led by a progressive, creative talent that puts emphasis on quality over tawdry, thinly veneered garbage?
Yes, I can see your point. I am the worst, most unreasonable sort of customer.
I would have thought this feature would be extremely popular since it promotes grouping, coordination, tactics, and pvp interaction so heavily. Some of the people complaining in this thread have gone on about how games don't promote group play enough. Now a game promotes group play but they complain because they have to spend their soda or coffee money on it.
You really think pay-gating 'fun' content like pvp events is a good idea?
Its P2Gamble, or if you drop it in an empty area or with a group of friends its straight up P2W.
Its the equivalent of paying to spawn a quest, but then losing out because you didn't talk to the NPC first. The fact that there are people who think it is acceptable for games to use the cash shop to spawn group events is very depressing.
Originally posted by dumpcat What about the lore...who in the hell is able to perform air drops on a post apocalyptic world? Stupid.
Maybe there are scattered military bases that strive to help those out there out as much as possible.
Either way, I honestly don't think this game is about 'lore'. What 'lore' are you referring to that they are hurting anyhow? Is there even an in depth 'lore' for this game, or are you just projecting your own onto it?
I think we are scraping the hate barrel when we get offended by not sticking to an assumed 'lore' for this game though TBH.
Forget about what these drops will do for an individual player. I know they say "well you could get killed as soon as you pick up the box, or before you even get to open it." Alliances will form that can use these for a huge and unfair advantage. I would just have a large group of my buddies gather up and start calling these drops in. We would have enough strength to repell any force that would try to take our loot and we would grow powerfull very quickly. In no time you would have a couple alliances on the server running everything because of all the weapons and ammo they bought through air drops. These drops might not help a single player all that much but for a group they will be major.
Smed is either the "realest" studio CEO or the most pompus one. Either way, he's telling all of US to our collective faces if we think something is P2W don't support it. Don't play it.
He either truly believes these air drops can't be exploited by credit card warriors OR he is so arrogant and confident that we're all the sheep he knows we are that it won't matter. "They wouldn't dare not play it. They can't resist trying something new. We'll clean up and there's nothing they can do about it. MUAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!"
What does the player base do in the face of this? What can we do? Will it matter?
I tend to remember one of the big F2P studio's responding when asked about what they would do if slot machine lock boxes in their cash shop where banned in Europe responding by saying they would just pull the game from that market. Some of these tactics such as lock boxes generate so much revenue that the companies don't care if they piss off people or even entire governments. The money to be made in these random boxes with their developer created rarity and unpublished odds of getting what most people want is insane. Casino's at least have to publish their odds of winning and can't change them on a whim, video games have no such regulations. Developers create the worlds, create the scarcity that makes people consider the lock boxes, than finds way to let you know whenever someone gets something you might want just like those flashing lights in the casino lets you know you to could win if you only play a machine.
So basically someone is paying $5 bucks to possibly not get what they paid for. The players will NEVER EVER find a way to make sure they get these air drops or exploit the mechanic. This justifies it all. I'm sold.
I'm also 100% sure SoE won't wait a couple of months and add another item you can buy to improve your chances of procuring your initial $5 investment.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
You just showed you have nothing of worth to argue, so instead you resort to trash like this...
He is right, there is nothing you have to buy here, not even the game if you want to try it out... It will be F2P. If it's not fun you don't have to play it, most won't. It's an early access game so of course it is unfinished...
For the record...People who aren't morons can argue actual points, without resorting to name calling and bile.
Don't worry I won't be touching this game, but I am still going to call out devs and players who support these shady practices that cater to compulsive spenders and whales and are ruining the integrity of MMOs.
You do realize that people who did research on the game were lied to right?
Smed say no $ for guns, then of course on the first day they add a mechanic that allows $ for guns. They are now offering full refunds, which is an admission that they misled the playerbase.
And before you start calling people morons and their posts bile for not making any points, perhaps you should offer some points of your own. Otherwise you are just a random guy complaining about complainers which is those useless type of forum poster there is.
I did make a point.... it's right there in red type...I didn't call you a moron, I said people who aren't are capable of arguing actual points rather than insults... Which you clearly did in your next post (which I replied to).

" ... I've personally been killed many times after I paid for them myself. ... "
Terrible idea, IMHO. Regardless of how well you make it known to the people who buy these 'drops' that there's a chance they won't get squat/lose what they do get, there will still be a ton of people who are going to not pay attention, spend money on it, not get anything(or lose what they get) and become vocal that they lost their money.
Agreed.
I don't know what the right answer is, but it's seldom making someone feel punished for paying for your product.
Balancing a freemium model so people have fun and don't mind paying is a total nightmare. I don't envy someone with that job.
Originally posted by Nanfoodle What I dont get is this. People chucking tones of money at crowd funded games and only 30% of them ever get released. Here is a game with an option cash shop you can chose to support on a game you know you will get a chance to play and people are upset. When did supporting a company and game you like become a bad thing? When the money you get to use to support them turns into a fun server event.
You are exactly the sort of naieve sucker these companies love and make millions from.
The devs serve up an unfinished pile of garbage which is full of P2W lock boxes, pay-gates for fun content and every other nickle and dime strategy under the sun and you smile and ask for more.
These are not games that are designed to be a fun and complete experience. They are simply a way to cash in and make a quick buck off of morons.

I do find it amusing the poster actually calls people morons and naive suckers yet who do people focus on.... My post was basically saying don't act like one. Especially if you're going to call others just that.

Good to know we have people like you patrolling the forums for trash talk, with your own trash talk. Must be an exhausting job.
Attacking at peoples character, mental capacity, etc.. is not making a point, Nanfoodle simply said how it is, like it or not, it is what it is, and you outright attacked him.
no... I was trying to offer a hint that you sound like one when that is your way of making a point. In the same way saying a statement was idiotic, is not the same as calling a person an idiot. Intelligent people can still say moronic things.
I have no reason to not call you one now if I in fact wanted to imply you are one, what would happen? A ban? Oh noes.

I knew these guys were shady when I saw their super orchestrated live stream reactions lol watch their video called H1Z1: First Gameplay Stream[Official Video] on youtube, and start the video at around 13:40. Tell me that's not the fakest reaction/follow up laugh you've ever seen.

Yeah..."clearly"....
I thought it was extremely clear.
I take my time to try and understand what is being said and have semi decent reading comprehension though (generally).

Indeed, reasonable customer would just walked away from something that isn't appealing.
There is no reason in your posts, just anger.
Sure bud.
You keep turning this into a personal thing, so I'm going to walk away. Let's not derail this thread, eh?
