$15 = $.50 a day
If you can't afford $.50 a day then you probably should be spending more time in school and less time playing games. If you aren't in school and can't afford $.50 a day, then you should probably go back to school so you can get a real job.
I don't care if a game only costs $1/month. If the value isn't there, I'm not going to pay for it.
Having said that, for me WoW is worth the monthly fee. The game has kept me entertained since last October.
You need to tell me what game style you like before I can offer advice.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
Well WoW does come with a free month of game play. So if you decide its not the game for you, you are not forced to pay the 15 dollars. And if you think about it, most new games cost about 50 bucks, PS2 and Xbox games which you play much less.
So if the game is peaking your interest and buy it you can easily make up your mind in a month if paying an extra 15 dollars a month is worth it.
But I sure miss the days where the monthly rate for MMORPGs were $9.95

Sigh. I have played WOW since the beginning. I was level 60 in December not very many people were on my server. I completed every instance in the game at least 6 times and have been bored since January.
I still play it, but have been bored for 5+ months. The game lacks any real game content and is quite shallow. The developers believe PvP expansion is the way to go, those of us who are on non PvP servers "by choice" are not getting any development for our monthly fee's. If you crave PvP you may like it a lot if you crave a well thought out game with tons of high end content for both groups and solo play, this game lacks it totally. I am debating trying guild wars not sure if it will be my cup of tea though or not.
I am paying for it on a month-by-month basis, and I ask myself at the end of every billing period if I am still having enough fun to cough up another $15 to keep going. I've been playing since December, and so far the answer has been yes. But I am playing through pretty slowly. YMMV. Anyway, taking it a month at a time is working for me.
It is definitely worth the $15 for the first couple of months, in any case, imo.

I 'd rather pay 15 $ a month for wow then Play Guild wars for free.
Well if your going to flame the game, why not back it up?
otherwise you might sound like a jackass....

Oh yeah? I know this chick that hangs out on the corner near my favorite bar that you can get very far with for 15 bucks! But then that diversion only lasts a few minutes so I guess I have to agree with you. WoW lasts all month for 15 bucks so it's hard to beat!

it depends on the person.
If you plan on playing WoW 3-4 hours a day, then I would say its worth $15/month.
On the other hand, if you'd rather not feel pressured to keep playing for your money's worth or if you're a busy person like I am, then get a game with no monthly fee. A good example is Guild Wars, which is an awesome game and costs nothing to play besides buying it for $50 in the store.

As an experienced MMO player, I found that WoW got stale pretty fast. I will admit though, I enjoyed the game quite a bit for the free month. I never payed the $15 a month for it. This was my intention from the beginning though because I dont wanna spend the time, but I wanted to see how good or bad WoW was.
My suggestion to less experienced MMO players is to not OVERPLAY the game. Take your time, go slow, be casual, and smell the roses along the way. The low end PvE content is the best Ive ever seen in an MMO. If you spend hours and hours every day playing, you will blow through it too fast.
As a veteran DAOC player, I found the PvP in WoW to be severly noobish, and lacking of any real purpose. Definetely disappointing from a company as experienced as Blizzard. Some of you may argue that eventually they will get it right. Realistically, they already had a few years of design and dev to get it right. Not to mention, excellent PvP models to start with from games like Shadowbane and DAOC.
As far as high level PvE or high end content, I cant comment cause my interest has always been in the PvP and I never played EQ.
For someone who enjoys WoW, $15 a month is clearly giving enormous value, considering how much time you can spend playing it. You can spend $15 pretty fast IRL.
A better question is: Is WoW worth the time required to play it?
For me personally, the answer is a resounding NO. Even if WoW had no monthly fee, I still wouldnt play it.
BTW, I quit DAOC for good just before TOA came out ( 1.5 yrs ago ) so dont know much bout the DAOC PvP after that. I currently dont play any MMOs because none interest me and they take too much of my time.
A lot depends on what your playstyle is.
a) If you are not planning on getting in a guild, you will end up looking for groups a lot of the time in the very laggy cities or areas, instas are a very large part of the game. Of course, there are these meeting stones, you say, but nobody uses them and they are quite frankly very bugged. Groups outside of a good guild are often based on luck, a lot of times there are people who take the very rare items you need and they only want to sell right in front of your nose when it was agreed that need comes first. Or there are the ones who play their class poorly(aka n00bs ) I'm playing a hunter and they are very unwanted because they are very skill dependant and a lot of very unskilled people play them which makes a lot of people have very bad experiences with them.
b) What class will you chose as a main? This one has to be thought out, if you are competitive or have a lack of endurance, by any means, do not go for the hunter. It's an unfinished class, subpar compared to other classes. Although they've had some love, warlocks are very bugged aswell still.
PvE wise, this game is pretty nice, high end instas and the collection of better equipment are pretty nice at high end and even better before.
PvP wise, WoW is lacking, it's pretty unbalanced and the new Battlegrounds are even worse when you play capture the flag or something.
Go play this if you're largely PvE, guild oriented. If not, you might and will have second thoughts and will get frustrated.
