ESO (Zenimax) pulls all Crown Store Potions in response to post...

NomadMorlockNomadMorlock Member UncommonPosts: 815

As a crafter in ESO, I've paid special attention to what items were planned for the new Crown Store.

They have stated specifically that Crown Store items would not be as powerful as player crafted items.  When it went up yesterday I noticed that the healing potions offered were stronger than what I was able to craft.  Someone (who will remain nameless) posted a question in the forums asking if this was a bug or if it was intentional.

The community manager responded that this was not intentional and in response they have pulled all potions from the Crown Store until they can be sure that they are not more powerful than player crafted at which time they will return to the store.

We all know the path to P2WIN and this had the appearance of heading down that path.  I thought I would share with everyone how well they handled the situation and call out a "Well Done" for ESO and ZOS.

Whatever you think of the company or the game you have to give them credit when they do the right thing.

Edited to remove my personal involvement in events as evidently that incites trolls.

Thanks for your feedback, and that's not intentional.  Just wanted to share the action they took.  I'm sure if I hadn't posted it, someone else would have eventually.

More like they were testing the waters to see how many people would complain. C'mon now, you really think it was a mistake? lol

IMO your post comes across as a passive aggressive form of projection, i.e. what your motivation would be.

On the other hand I feel the the OP was able to effectively communicate that the team at Zenimax was responsive, a positive comment among a slew of cons usually offered in regards to the game.

The title of the thread does a bit, but the content of the OP's post is clearly praising ZOS for deftly moving to address a problem brought up by the community. Good to see such a quick response from them.

I think we've all called out the negative in the past when it comes to developers actions.  Figured I would change things up a bit :)

Yes, I'm sure you were the only one to mention it to them. They must have thought, "my GOD, this random forum poster stated CS pots were more potent than craftable..." and the entire organization went into red alert.

Good job random forum poster. Good job.

Thanks for your on topic response.  Perhaps this is better in the other thread I made about how to be an ass?

As to TESO -- on the surface it sounds good; we'll see if they continue to make 'mistakes'.

Wasn't the problem that since the crown store potions scale by level, they were scaling higher than the highest currently available non-scaling crafted potion which is VR5, I beleve... or was it something else?

The potions said that they scaled only to VR5, however I was VR8 so it is a possibility.  They didn't confirm what the issue actually was however.  I'm doubting this as some lower level players commented that they were stronger than potions they could craft at lower levels as well, so I think it was a little more complicated.

I guess we missed that in the PTS since we didn't buy potions with the free crowns we had there... we blew it all on silly costumes and pets lol

And all the VR14s just use the tri-stat potions anyway... and those are only crafted.

Making a mistake is something we all do. Learning from them is what sets the greats apart!

    Great post OP.

I can recall being blasted by many folks in a thread I made a while ago. I had raised potential concern about P2W with some of the crown items.

Your post has, in effect, validated my concerns. I thank you kindly for that!

People need to chill.  Mistakes are made no matter what is going on, and as long as a company is willing to fix those mistakes then everything is fine by me.  Some people though are freaking out about it.  Mistakes will always be made, since there are people involved, and people make mistakes...inb4 robot made games...well actually robots could make mistakes as well, since people made them...we're all doomed :)

To the OP, thanks for the info. Your post was informative and I appreciated it.

Perhaps one unintended consequence of the post was that it flushed out a bunch of idiot trolls. Don't let em get to you.

    Ignore the fools.

I also would like to commend the O,.P. for posting this. something positive a developer is doing.  cheers.

There's more to the story.  On pts for weeks there were v10 potions. When 1.6 went live the v5 potions did not upgrade to v10. This is why the crown store potions were stronger.  They were v10.

Well done to OP and to ESO Team. I'm not a player of ESO but this is a good news story that needs to be shown some light. We shed light on enough crap and minor mistakes blown up into massive "failures" but not enough "good jobs".

Trolls are trolls if they will always find something to complain about.

So far, from my experiences with MMO, in today's MMO, TESO is the only MMO where the developers learns from their mistakes and actually try to make it better, compared to now and then, you can feel the game progression is improving.

But yeah, we can only pray that they won't go down the P2W path.
