Personally I have 2 PC's that I play on (and sometimes on my Laptop when we're out of town), depending if my wife needs the main PC or not:

Game runs ok on it though since it's a TFT screen the graphics can be slow. But, again, I need to turn the video settings down on it or it lags like hell.
MAIN SYSTEM: 3.2ghz Processor 2 GB DDR SDRAM GeForce 6800 GT w/256MB RAM 7200RPM Hard Drive
Game runs smooth as glass, even in crowded areas with Video settings Maxed out and 8x Anti-Aliasing turned on.
Bottom line: Lag is CLIENT SIDE. It is 100% related to your SYSTEM.
Things to check for on your system if you are having lag (This can be found in the tech support forums on SOE's site by the way, that's how I fixed most of my issues about a month after starting playing the game a year ago):
Run Spybot and/or addaware. Before I did that on the 1.8 I had HORRIBLE problems. It found, literally, 300 various spyware/addware cookies, apps, etc. Once I cleaned those up my lag (in all games) dropped dramatically.
If you are running a firewall make sure that all the ports that SWG uses are open! I had horrible problems with lag before I found out about that. They're posted on the support site.
If you have less than 1GB RAM make sure you kill as many processes as you can before running the game
Shut off Anti-Virus software before playing. (Some faster systems won't need to)
The game has its problems. But Server Side Lag and Server Stability aren't among them.
SOLO? I SOLO all the time. I have kids in the house, I don't/can't always join groups because I have to go AFK ALL the time. So I SOLO at least half the time I play. Ask anyone in my guild: FPA on Lowca. Ask them if Taram Solo's alot.
You don't have to have 2 accounts to be a crafter and an adventurer either. You can be a DOUBLE Master in Crafting and STILL almost master an elite combat profession. You can SINGLE master in a crafter proff and MASTER a combat elite and do half of a 2nd combat elite prof (CL60-70).
The game has ALWAYS been 1 character per account per server (unless you become a jedi, then you get a 2nd slot on your server).

Wow (pun intended), I wish SOE would allow you to create multiple characters per server per account. They allow this with EverQuest 2, which I believe allows you up to 4.
Oh and Jedi/Alts don' t count, lol.
Ico Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
I understand that EP4 was most likely the more widely known time period of the SW universe. However, I don't think moving the time line of the game either forward or backward a bit to account for the mass of jedi wouldn't have hurt the game. At least not on the scale that jedi have hurt the game in it's current form.

Elnator, please tell me you're just joking around. You claim to be true to the statistics, but how useful is that if the statistics are biased. The only official figures, including the ones on the MMORPG stats website come from SOE and their corporate releases. BUT, I'll play along and assume that they are telling the truth...
You ask where people get the notion that thousands of people quit, well look at their own words. They say thay lost subscriptions after the CU (keeping in mind that lots of people had subscriptions that did not immediately run out, but would have remained active until june or longer if they wanted to try CU live before quitting). Then, some weeks after the expansion is out, and 3 weeks after the movie has been out, the official company response is that they have essentially broken even. Now lets a plly some logic; after an extremely agressive advertising campaign for the expansion, and the release of probably the biggest movie of the year to boost interest the sales for SWG are only enough to balance the lost subscriptions to the game. How many more movies do you think they plan to release? None! And that even was the single largest advertisement for SWG or any computer game ever, and all it was able to achieve is to balance the recent losses.
This to me screams the fact that SWG lots thousands and more likely tens of thousands of subscriptions. Or would you like to beleive that the sales for the 3 weeks after the movie and 2+ weeks after the expansion only sold a few hundred copies of the new game??
SWG is not dead, but its not healthy, and like many people have posted the real test is still to come. Throughout June and July old subscriptions that were left unpaid will begin to close and the official numbers will have to again be reduced, and what about all those wonderful new players who just joined. How many of them will stay after the initial enthusiasm post-movie is gone, and they are asked to start paying $15 each month to keep playing. Some certainly will, but many won't. Also keep in mind that SWGhas been out for 2 years now, and the true star wars fans will have already tried SWG or at elast thought about it, the ones who are coming in now won't be the ones who are willing to pay for 3-8 accounts each month to play like in the old days.
Should he buy it? Personally, no. The game is essentially flawed, and the superimposing of a level based game onto a skills based game has meant that it will be long before the mess is ever sorted out. Can you play and have some fun? sure, but you can play and have fun bobbing for apples to. But should someone invest $15 each month, and countless hours into a game that is still in flux and with so many core problems 2 years after release when compared with the alternatives? No.

A response I can respect.
My point is this: People post that SWG is "dying" because it is "losing players" when in fact it's not. Some people left but they were replaced by new faces. And, as a player, I can attest to the fact that there are more people on my server now than there were before the CURB. What that means 2 months down the road? Nobody knows. But right now the only answer that can be given is: No, it's not dying. Some old players left because they didn't like the CURB but new players came in and have made up the difference (officially) and then some (unofficial personal observation). I suspect that the next figure we see will be SOE saying SWG breaks 300,000 subs. That's just a hunch though.
MOST of the stats on ALL the sites are only from official releases and/or insider leaks. But if it's all you have to go on then you have to rely on it. Another point is: SOE has nothing to gain by lying. If they lie about it and LucasArts catches em in a lie they will fry. LucasArts is many thing but they do NOT mess around with the bottom line. If SOE were telling lies about subscription base LucasArts would sue them faster than you could blink. Trust me, this is the company that sues fan sites for posting copyrited material. I know, they sent me an official letter at one point to take a bunch of art off my starwars website when I had it up because I hadn't gotten authorization to post it. They are VERY litigative.
If they thought SWG was in danger of flopping they'd be all over SOE to fix it. Nobody messes with LucasArts bottom line and gets away with it.

I am sorry , elinator , that I didnt study statistic , I was just saying that what I saw at mmorpg stats several months ago was 250k and now its 250k. If what SOE said was true that they had gained 50k something subscribers then they had to have lost 50k . You know you really dont have to be an ass , if someone made a mistake , I didnt go to college. I joined the army and learned to kill people and jump out of planes. SO if what I said wasnt statisticaly correct BFD. I was only saying what I read , if that info wasnt correct then well go tell the author of the site that.
I will point out I NEVER said the game was dying, I said that it is too soon to really get a solid number on the game untill couple more months. Its people like you who think they are the all knowing ones that really piss me off .
In my opinion , I dont think they person should buy the game. To me as it stands now its a waste of money , and that is my opinion. Your opinion is game is great , thats good everyone has right to their own opinion.
I can confirm at least 122 people that cancelled their accounts with SWG. My guild more or less just up and quit went to GW to just BS around till something comes out that we want to play. We all felt that if we did a cancellation , hopefully sony might notice it since we did it the same day.

Not really pointing the finger at anyone in particular. I'm just sick of people who hate any given game (not just SWG but any game) and just start automatically making blanket statements about it so that they can get other people to hate the game.
Point of fact: Lag in the game is nearly 100% client side. SWG requires a fairly beefy system to run smoothly if you don't tweak down the graphics. The default settings do NOT play well with under 1gb of RAM and a GEFORCE or equivalent graphics card with 128mb RAM. If you have those specs then the default settings work pretty well.
Point of fact: Several people in this thread have said SWG is losing subscribers in "droves" without pointing out that it's gaining players just as fast, if not faster. Thus giving the missimpression that the game is in a decline. When in fact you cannot accurately make that statement until we see numbers for May/June.
Point of fact: Many people dislike the CURB but to say it was a "flop" is innacurate because numerous people LIKE the CURB.
Bugs, I will grant you. YES, by all means there are a lot of bugs that shouldn't be there. Many of which have been fixed.
Mission bug: Appears to be fixed. I haven't had a bugged mission in 3 days. Entertainer bug: Appears to be fixed. I haven't seen the notorious "You are too far away" message in days. Broken skills: Many are fixed. More every day.
Rushed release: I have agreed on this numerous times. The CURB was rushed. The DEVS will even admit it was rushed. It was rushed because the ROTW expansion was written FOR the CURB, it couldn't go live without it. Marketting probably insisted that ROTW go live in conjunction with EPIII for sales purposes. I'm sure the DEVS rushed CURB out early (May 5) so that they'd' have a couple weeks of it in the live environment so that they could find and identify all the breakpoints before too many new players encountered them. So, yes, CURB was rushed, which resulted in the numerous bugs that occurred specifically because it was rushed.
Now, as I mentioned: The most obvious bugs have been adressed already or are vastly improved upon.
Class specific bugs are still being worked. They fixed several TKM bugs in the latest patch as well as some Jedi stuff. I haven't dug around in the game enough yet (only play about 1.5-2hrs a night so I don't have as much time as some to find bugs) to find out if anything else was fixed but it was a pretty big download.
Several professions were fundamentally changed by the CURB, which really angered people who liked how those professions worked before and don't like the new functionality of them. I can agree with that but since I like the way they work now better than the way they were before I will agree to dissagree with them.
Bottom line: SWG is backed by two of the largest gaming companies in the business. LucasArts and SOE. It isn't going anywhere.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online. Sig image Pending Still in: A couple Betas
1) I believe the game is not really going anywhere due to poor management at SOE. CSR is at an all time low with an extreme turnover rate, that even gas station cashiers, who start at minimum wage, have a lower turnover rate. These same CSR's seem to have a poor work ethic, and their managers don't seem to care that they help to ruin the game.
2) The player base is shrinking, and the more mature, responsible ones are disappearing. I personally run into the problem of not being able to depend on any other players helping me in any group hunts. It seems if someone gets killed, the groups (which is now mandatory to be in to gain xp) disband.
3) The economy was destroyed by the great CU. All my good stuff has been nerfed, and all my work to create or buy anything good has been thrown to the trash been by SWG's supposed improvemenmts.
And it amazes me how people who dont like the game anymore sound like disgruntled customers who feel ripped off, but those that defend it seem like they are profiting from the game, like they are good, company people. Whats up with that? Is Sony hiring people to run a giant propaganda campaign?

Here comes the next conspiracy theory fan. Unless SOE is recruiting Austrians working in the power supply field and who still pay for their own subscription I dont think there is such a conspiracy. Cause i DO like the game post-CU, even if there is a long bug list to fix and CSRs need to get up to the standard they showed first quarter 2005. SOE, if you read this ... HIRE ME HIRE ME .. SHOWER ME WITH MONEY, WILL YA ?!
Some people like the combat revamp (at least in part), some dont. You hear various opinions here on the forum. You also can read a lot of critical remarks from those who like SWG, but those are the posts that are conveniently overlooked by the SWG flamers. Does not fit into their concept of "SWG/SOE is EVIL"... constructive criticism is something they left behind long ago.
1 - Naritus is a shiny, happy place. 2 - Image designers can still make you look amazing. 3 - You get to laugh at jedis running and hiding in houses when someone says "bounty hunter" too loudly. 4 - You get to laugh at bounty hunters when they run and hide when you say "Verago" too loud. 5 - Hot zabrak men in tiny speedos. 6 - (For you guys) Hot twi'lek women in revealing outfits. 7 - Cantina-crawls with the gang getting drunk on whatever's available and making fun of people who prefer their dancers unconscious. 8 - Pointing and laughing at Noobia when anyone brings up the village. 9 - Did I mention hot zabrak men in speedos? Yeh. Okay, well you can never have too many hot zabrak men in speedos.
And it amazes me how people who dont like the game anymore sound like disgruntled customers who feel ripped off, but those that defend it seem like they are profiting from the game, like they are good, company people. Whats up with that? Is Sony hiring people to run a giant propaganda campaign?
I know I don't sound like a Sony employee. I call a spade a spade, and there are a lotta spades in this deck. But there's still fun to be had. And I'm not going to say there isn't just because they nerfed my first couple of choices of fun and broke a few others. The game has massive appeal to a certain kind of playstyle (which for the most part is NOT mine). No one can deny that. Just like no sane person can deny it's terminally broken in parts and CSR sucks the sweat off a rancour's privates.
Thing is, I still manage to have fun. And as broken and sucky as it is in places, it's still more fun than WOW, GW, AO or anything else out there. If you hate SOE, you might as well forget all about Matrix, since it's been slated for a sony takeover, or so I hear. Maybe I'm more tolerant since NO game caters to my playstyle and most games bore me so much I'd rather take up cross stitch than bother with them. SWG, even broken, nerfed and turned into EQ is closer than anything else out there. Though if anyone DOES make a game that puts as much importance and care into crafting and gets it right, I'll be cancelled and subbed there so fast SOE's collective ears will burst from the sonic boom of my departure.
Its a perfectly fine game nothing wrong with it but i did quit.
Not be cause of a "nerfed class" not the CU either.
I quit because of the massice lag throughout. The night i quit i was going to my house OUTSIDE tatooine.I froze midway up a slope for 5 minutes.I went to get a drink and have a bio break and i came back STILL froze.
Not in a town nor were there other players around.I was in the DESERT.
My System is a powerhouse ok so i know it isnt the client side doing it.
Want to ENJOY an mmo?
Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.
Strange ... we do know that many of us here play normally, so its not server side. You confirm that its not client side on your end. So it must be somewhere in between.
Did you do a Tracert command in DOS window to get an idea where the delay is ?

WB sold of MXO so fast it's not even funny. It must have really had a disastrous opening, subscriber base wise. Not surprised though, MXO is a pretty niche game... SOE may be able to do something with it but who knows.... I never could see how MXO would do well... other than the 1st one the movies sucked. And it's not like the movies really lend themselves to a video game.
I agree 100% with you NOOBIA There are some classes that were fundamentally changed. For those who really liked them the way they were before they are broken now. For those who never experienced them pre-CURB they'll never know what it was like before so they won't seem broken to them. But yes, the CURB made a lot of changes that I don't necessarily like. But after all is said and done SWG is still the game I have the most fun playing. WOW, EQ2 and AO are about as much fun as watching paint peel. SWG still has that magic 'something' that keeps bringing me home.
And as we have all said, the Customer Service isn't the best (This IS SOE we're talking about here you just don't expect much in that department from them... LOL but their tech support is first rate, as is the technical faq's on the website) but it is better than it was several months ago.

Wow (pun intended), I wish SOE would allow you to create multiple characters per server per account. They allow this with EverQuest 2, which I believe allows you up to 4.
Oh and Jedi/Alts don' t count, lol.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned.

My point is this:
People post that SWG is "dying" because it is "losing players" when in fact it's not.

Bottom line:
SWG is backed by two of the largest gaming companies in the business. LucasArts and SOE. It isn't going anywhere.

Is Sony hiring people to run a giant propaganda campaign?

oops double post sorry
Have fun

Just play the damn game:)
Strange ... we do know that many of us here play normally, so its not server side. You confirm that its not client side on your end. So it must be somewhere in between.
Did you do a Tracert command in DOS window to get an idea where the delay is ?
Have fun

WB sold of MXO so fast it's not even funny. It must have really had a disastrous opening, subscriber base wise. Not surprised though, MXO is a pretty niche game... SOE may be able to do something with it but who knows.... I never could see how MXO would do well... other than the 1st one the movies sucked. And it's not like the movies really lend themselves to a video game.
I agree 100% with you NOOBIA
There are some classes that were fundamentally changed.

Folks, I gave up trying to discuss this game with the fanboies.
They will invent what ever number they want to show the game is growing, based on company figures.
It all boils down to, do you believe SoE, or your own eyes.
