FFXIV was literally made for you lol.

"FFXIV doesn't have good gameplay lol. I got to level 10 and made that judgment lol."

Unfortunately its hard to even get to level 10 because the first hour or so is probably the most boring start to a game I have ever experienced. If you like quests like "Go and emote /wave to five npcs" though FF14 is definitely your game.

The graphics are amazing however, and Hyanmen always tells me that the gameplay picks up as you progress (and I believe him/her). I even played it for a bit on my ps4 on a good large screen TV and the graphics were amazing- seemingly even better than on my computer for some reason.

You have probably experienced plenty of boring starts to games. The only difference is what was once overwhelming is now just common sense to you.

Overwhelming and boring are two different things, but in the case of the start of FF14 they coalesce into overwhelmingly boring. In fact I can't recall playing any game that started off as boring as FF14 does and drags that boring experience out for such a long time. And that says a lot because mmos in particular can be pretty boring.  But if you think quests requiring players /wave to five npcs and the like = good game design then that is fine, I respect your position.

To me its more fun if the game drags me in from the start with interesting content/gameplay and then fleshes out the incidental parts, or leaves it to the player to find out themselves about such things through interacting with the community. The first hour or so of FF14 is like having to read a dry manual/dictionary of terms illustrated with nice artwork before getting to enjoy what is supposed to be a good novel, although I will probably never know if it really is good since every time I try and play the game I never get past the compulsory boring bit.

EDIT: Actually that is a bit unfair about FF14- the character creation screen is quite amazing and the first cut scenes are also good. Its the hour or so after that which I find almost unbearable.

great game until you are forced to group to advance your character

the "dungeons" are pretty cool but you are rushed through them - not only that but even when it is your first time you are expected to have already run through them by way of youtube - so yeah, not fun and definitely no sightseeing

For scenery and environmental immersion, LOTRO still ranks among the best themepark mmos out there. Plus there's the epic story. It does have some gated content but you can earn it through gameplay.

For another WoW clone, you might try Rift. It has dynamic content that you can solo or group with on the fly, typical progression like WoW, world bosses and rare mobs plus artifact collecting while you explore. It's also F2P.

WildStar is at the top of my list right now. It's the most themeparky MMO I think I've ever played, but it definitely lets you feel like you can take your time and don't need to rush to hit cap. The paths give the player quite a lot to do outside of story/sidequests, add in farming and cooking on top of customizable player housing and I think you've hit gold. I should add, the music is phenomenal as well.

The only real downside to WS is the combat. It's rubbish, and doesn't fit the genre well, imo.

yes very casual and good looking but not a solo Boss game.IMO wanting to solo Bosses  would hardly make it a Boss,i mean you can slap a Boss name on it but if you can solo it,it is no better than a random mob in the game.

I am thinking sort of more like EQ2 but then as i already mentioned BOSSES are not meant to be soloed. You can solo a Boss in EQ2 once you are a couple levels higher and using a merc.

FFXI also offers Trusts which are the same as Mercs but you can use 3 of them almost giving you a sort fo mini party on your own.Tons of quests but they serve a different purpose not including xp.Graphics are as good as it gets for no shader's low poly but definitely not in the same league as FFXIV.

SO to sum it up ..

FFXI=the likely chance to solo good Bosses

    FFXIV=best looking game

EQ2=sort of in the middle somewhere.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I think the combat is some of the best of any themepark. To me it is fun just to grind mobs! :)

I can see that, and I think I almost agree with it. I do enjoy randomly killing things until my fingers start to hurt. The combat style doesn't seem to encourage long play sessions...at least for me.

GW2 or FFXIV would be my recommendation.

Well this covers quite a range, but Skyrim, LoTRO, Wildstar or SWTOR. Can't really go wrong with any of those

Even the quest stories are great

and no pink fairies, instead you get rolling heads and double hand swords

I actually agree with this one the most.  AOC is probably the best WoW clone.  It will take time to get used to the combat though and it's not as easy as WoW, but the quests, dungeons and scenery are top notch

Why would you want to hurt your fingers?

One of the shining things that this game does have is it's combat system. It is fluid and requires forsight and coordination. It has a very well designed Mob AI that makes it very challenging, not just dungeons, but questing as well. Many titles allow you to stand toe to toe and battle it out with mobs, but with WS you have to dodge/roll as part of your defense. I like it! On top of that the music is some of the best for any game...at least it is to me!

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Playing alongside others is as viable as playing with others. There are plenty of people who like to play MMO's simply because there are real people behind the characters you see. OR maybe the OP simply likes the type of game-play? MMORPGs do last longer than most SP RPGs. More bang for your buck so to speak.

Great point and not many people understand that. Like why people bring their notebooks to a coffee shop.

One thing I am not seeing here is any of the new games, or even newish ones.  Every recommendation has been one of the old games made FTP.

Project Gorgon is the closest to what you are asking presently(at least in regard to gameplay and being able to solo down bosses).  The main problem with it is that there really isn't much of an endgame at the moment, so I predict it would be one of those, yeah this is fun til you are done things.

I'd like to see people listing a bunch of actual newish games as opposed to the ftp conversion AAAs.

Just as a quick comment, I've seen several recommendations for GW2 (would be mine too from what you describe), it's on sale for the weekend (until april 13th 11:59 pm PT) 75% off, so you can get it for $10 until then, just in case you're interested.

What can men do against such reckless hate?
