The impact of goons in EVE can be found in many ways. Our previous enemy's name BOB, is now considered a swear word. vOv
We are off to a good start in H1Z1 as people can't stop talking about us and play against us. Op success!

It shows what PvP games are really all about, and no, it's not about more realism and immersion. It's about cowards hiding behind a screen to they can bully other defenseless players without any risk of direct retaliation like there would be if they acted like asshats in "real life". -Jean-Luc_Picard

This type of gameplay is fine, even awesome, as a way to engage a lot of players in team sports, but it will take any possibly contested content and lock it for single users or small groups.

I think you're giving Goons far too much credit.  I doubt most Eve players ever have any type of interaction with Goons.  I played Eve for years and can count on one hand the number of times I ran into them.

I was speaking more generally of mega-guilds, but I believe you when you say you didn't run into that particular guild too often. I just think that the game developers need to be forthcoming about how they intend to deal with mega-guilds. They will tell you their stance on gold sellers readily, but the stance on mega-guilds always seems reactionary or based in ignorance to the effect of the behavior on the game as a whole. EVE is of course not an example I would use, as the intent is clearly anything that does not produce external litigation goes.

I played EvE many years ago and I am back now. Back then I do remember the rise of BOB and the activities of the Goons that were in EvE at the time. Didn't know much about the Goons then.

Then the Goons discovered Wurm Online. After what I witnessed in Wurm about the Goons and their "gameplay style"and their way of interacting within a MMO community I came to the conclusion I never wanted anything to do with the Goons again. I wondered how any group could be so anti-community, and I mean by that against the whole community even though you do take care of your own well enough, but to me that is not enough. I then visited the Something Awful Forums and I saw first hand what you Goons consider normal and acceptable. In regards to your group I want no part of your community on the internet in any game you play.

I consider the word "BOB" to be simply a word used to identify a former Alliance in EvE... (i wasn't in BOB nor did I know anyone who was, nor did I profit or lose anything due to them)... but I consider the word "Goon" as a truly four letter word. You all wanted to leave your mark, trust me you did. I would never work with any Goons in EvE even if I was the only one who wasn't a Goon.

So I stay away from members of SA and the Goons as much as possible. I figure it's better that way for me and you all.

and YES I judge the Goons as a whole by the actions of a few..... that is the negative side to why Guilds can be a bad thing in MMOs, especially Guilds such as MetaGuilds.

The thing about guilds is that the ones that last form communities. It's easy to form a guild, it takes a lot of work / time / effort to make a community. Not everyone can do it. Guilds like the Good Squad are communities that form guilds. What most people tend to do is form a guild and hope it becomes a community.

The ironic thing is that the guilds that tend to fail are the selfish ones. The ones that want everyone to give up everything 'for the guild'. The ones that accept that people have lives, play more than one game, and do other things besides play video games tend to do much, much better.

You get death threats all the time in EVE. If you can't handle that EVE is not for you.
Heck I got death threats while in EVE UNI. vOv

I doubt death threats will stop in other multi games either. Just look at XboxLive.

I'm pretty sure we didn't set out to be the kittens and rainbow guilds; but congrats! You figured us out! We are here to ruin you game!

You know what really worries me about death threats that they might track me to my home and hurt me. This is the major reason I worry about the type of individuals who issue death threats. I cannot even begin to understand the type of person who takes pleasure in driving another to commit suicide.

Seeing kids in schools who are committing suicide over bullying I think it is only a matter of time before someone in real life gets badly hurt on EvE. The game encourages this sort of behaviour and it is considered a badge of honour and that's perfectly okay since it is that type of game. I personally would never play it.

Wow. You don't seem balanced. All I ask is that you don't carry out your real life threats and seek professional help.

Says the guy who follows and defends an idiot like Mitanni. I made no threat, nice try though. Guess it's what should be expected from a pixel warrior. A keyboard commando who would shit bricks if he ever came face to face with anyone he fucked with in a game.  And the ones who need professional help are your inglorious leader and the morons who still follow him.

I think this is the 'Jump the shark' moment for this thread.

In the vain hope of communicating; You don't find it slightly disturbing that you are wishing real-life ills onto thousands of gamers, just because they belong to a VIDEO GAME GUILD?

    Really?!

edit: we have real life doctors who worked at mercy boats btw.

Don't try to argue with Goons, they're too full of it to see any other aspects and facts than the ones they're told by their overlords.

Yes, I must have missed the part on the fact that activities you do in a VIDEO GAME and Real Life are completely different.

And your guild obviously has no problem with trying to ruin other people's real life game. What if homeboy had offed himself because of Mitanni's bullshit, hmm? Would you still be following the big dog while he was sitting in the big house?

As always in life, you are judged by the company you keep. And your entire guild decided to keep Mitanni.

This is a very disturbing post.

"Life itself is a game. So why shouldn't your game be ruined?" - Wow. You know, I never seriously thought I'd meet someone this insane.

    I mean.. just WTF?!

When a GOON in this community appears to be the  'normal well adjusted human', there's some issues in this community.

    Just... Wow.

Congrats! You made a Goon speechless.

Actually let's hear why you wish ill will towards thousands of people just because they play a video game.
