The other thing is McDonalds has continued to grow as a business and get better with time... i dont know about your country, but in my country they offer a gourmet style "build your own burger, which you design on a tablet in the restaurant with a selection of buns, cheeses, fresh ingredients etc... and then you get table service, where they bring your order out to you with your fries in a little fries basket etc... so it's kind of like getting a quality restaurant burger but at mcdonalds....
so i mean honestly, it's a really terrible comparison you've made.
That's an experiment McDonald's is doing in specific cities from what I've read. They've been losing a lot of business lately, and it's only getting worse. I had no idea they were testing the waters in Countries such as Australia. Very cool, and thank you for sharing the pic. I'd be back at McDonald's in a heart beat if they offered that type of experience in my city.
not an expiriment, they've rolled it out in basically all McDonalds stores across australia and it's being recieved very well. I don't know what kind of country you think Australia is that it wouldnt warrant this kind of thing :P but yeah, Mcdonalds in Australia i dont think is in as much trouble as it seems to be over there, i think i read reecntly they closed a bunch of sites down...
I'm not sure whats on your McDonalds menu, but we have like a whole health range also... "salads, chicken salads, asian noodle salads, lean beef burgers, meat / salad wraps etc... so i dunno it seems to still be doing ok here.
Does the OP realise that if the pre-'04/'05 games were as great as nostalgia would have us believe, then the players of those games wouldn't have left them in droves to go and play the 'new' games, right?
I wonder if the OP's ancestors complained about calculators killing the abacus market?
The market today is just saturated with all sorts of games and mmo's, now its our job to find the diamond in the rough. I started my gaming on a Commodore 64 w/ 300 baud back in the 80's.
As I grew up and was introduced to the PC in the mid 90's, games like Starsiege Tribes,Unreal and Halflife as my FPS games of choice and my mmo's of choice were AO, SB, SWG and EQ.
I do miss that certain time of magic when everything was new, unfortunately technology is what happened. We can pump more games out now way to fast with little or no substance with fancy graphics. I agree most games today are all show and no go. And the longevity is like 1 to 2 months of game play now.
I find myself as a grown adult now messing with my smart phone for a quick game fix like Heroes Charge and League of Angels, what in the world has happened to me! LOL!
Currently I really don't play much on the PC, but still have many of the mmo's after 2005 still loaded on my machine, just haven't had the itch like I once did in the past to play most of them since I don't feel the magic anymore.

I think you got it backwards, Australia shouldn't have to put up with McDonalds. I haven't eaten from there in a couple years except for a breakfast where I had a McRiddle. Notice I took the G out of McGriddle.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

If you started MMOs after 2005, Thank you for killing the genre!
What?! Somebody has to let the cat out of the bag.
Back then most MMO's were worth playing. Then game companies started dragging in riff raff from the console and warcraft markets which turned the entire genre from something that once was Applebees into mcDonalds.
You mad? Don't get mad. Educate yourself. Go download and try playing older games. Through enlightenment you can cast aside that cloak of inferiority and exchange it for a golden cloak of wisdom.
Not even going to read the other replies but I am sure they all revolve around "rose colored glasses, nostaligia, you changed the genre didn't" type comments.
Saying that, I agree with you...but going back and playing them now won't do anything. They are all shells of their former selves.

Yeah.... i dunno about that, i been playing MUD's since Dialup was like Pay by the hour... and i think the quote below me sums it up perfectly...

Ya, we are getting way off subject but the same type menu is here in the States. I think McDonalds is now considered a lesser choice in fast food chains and the stocks reflect it. /shrug You guys gave us Outback Steakhouse and we gave you Cholesterol filled arteries.

Lol, sorry. My post should have been worded better. I have a lot of respect for Australia, and if I had the means (as a Canadian) I'd live there during your summer which is my winter.
Anywho, that's awesome that you guys get this across your Country; last I heard McDonald's was just going to be trying it out in San Diego IIRC at a few select restaurants. I guess the test went quite well by the sound of it. Here in Canada we get the salads and chicken wraps but nothing like what you guys are getting. Good for you, and have an amazing meal next time you go.

Ahh brings back memories. I ate at a McDonald's in Sydney about 12-14 years ago when I was in the Navy and we stopped there. I remember getting a combo meal and being baffled at how the cup size for their regular was the equivalent of an American small. Also I think they had an option to have a fried egg or beets on the burger. Plus I couldn't figure out the money so I handed the guy at the register a handful of coins and hoped I didn't end up paying the equivalent of $20 USD for a Big Mac combo. I went to a Tool concert and had fun in King's Cross too! Great Trip to a great country!

So, when do you plan to have your first Heart Attack? I suggest trying to postpone it until you are 65+. The younger you are the higher the chances are that a Heart Attack will kill you.
I am kind of sad though. The fact that fast food(crap food) was used in this thread has brought my opinion of MMORPGs down a tad more.

nah ... worth playing is subjective. I like modern MMOs ... and lobby co-op RPGs much more than the old EQ/UO style MMORPGs.
and you can't go back to the horrible staring at your spellbook EQ anyway .. since the first version has so many problems, and modified to something slightly better already.

I don't like the Applebees and McDonalds comparison. Neither one appeals to my tastes. But the OP is dead right.
There has always been fighting games that have evolved from the first mortal combat to the modern fighting games.
Sports games have evolved from the games on NES to the modern ones.
Xenoblade is a better RPG than many of the SNES RPGs.
But MMORPGs have devolved. They are simpler, shallower, more hallow....

I kind of agree with the OP. Once Wow brought the mmo to mass market it was downhill from there. Back in 99/2000 mmo's were cooler when only computer geeks knew about them. Now ever punk with his daddy's credit card is playing and filling the communities with aholes. Now its mostly over hyped garbage these days. And the sad part is the Eastern market is over taking the genre now. Western companies are to busy chasing Wow and putting out crap.
I am kind of sad though. The fact that fast food(crap food) was used in this thread has brought my opinion of MMORPGs down a tad more.
are you one of those "healthy" mmo gamers that eats a nice eggplant & cabbage smoothie before sitting down to an 8 hour raid session finished off by falling asleep in your chair?

Well you're certainly not helping Applebees by eating at McDoanlds or at home.
