Originally posted by Wazumata5445 I been watching this game for a while, but wondering when they will release also. It looks really good. Is anybody actually in Alpha at the moment?
Potentially: a few hundredthousand (have a game package with Alpha access)
In reality (at any given time) : a few thousand to ten thousand
In reality (throughout a week) : several tenthousand
At the moment we are not speaking about a feature complete Alpha. The playtesters are testing the space dogfight module "Arena Commander" at the moment. In a few weeks the FPS ground combat module will be free for player testing. After that the social/planetary interaction module will follow.
The solo campaign Squadron 42 should be available as Alpha/Beta with the first of many parts .... end of 2015
The Persistent Universe (Multiplayer) should be available at the end of 2016, beginning of 2017.
1. Release as soon as possible, possibly dispelling the illusion and stopping your massive cash shop income.
2. Delay the game as long as possible so you can make profits from cg.
I think this should be a no brainer.
a game development BUDGET is NOT PROFIT FFS
get that in your heads already
PROFIT is when a game is out and selling copies, having mandatory subscription and not adding any content for years, like WOW
that is PROFIT
In a normal development environment, yes. Crowdfunding as big as this one is, is also about profiting. Not for everyone that is part of current development process, but you can bet your behind there are people making huge profits due to people GIVING them huge amounts of money without any binding agreements.

Actually, PROFIT is how much money you have coming in after you subtract how much money is going out. That is PROFIT.
Since this company (notice I didn't say game, because there is no game) has money coming in from consumers, they currently are turning a profit. Unless they've spent all those millions on a product which for the general public does not exist. Nobody in their right minds believes that is the case.
Well AAA titles can take upwards of 5 years to develop, it has been what 2 years almost 3... so you have 2 more years to wait. Just enough time to learn about the industry you are participating in, games and game development, it will save us from having to endure these ridiculous posts.

corrrect. since Star Citizen is storywise alone bigger than any Mass Effect ever was and probably bigger than the new Mass Effect Andromeda, SC will take two more years at least until official release. We´ll get many tasty bits in between, but they´d be idiots if they´d throw an unfinished game on the market for a boxprice to cash in quickly.
So EA says they work on Mass Effect Andromeda since the release of Mass Effect 3 which came 2012.
Meaning the new Mass Effect ist already 3 years in production and still 2 years out as it will come Dec. 2016
5 years for a huge open world blockbuster is absolute minimum

Agreed. The timings on KS funded games is getting better as time goes on, but that's mostly due to what developers are starting up a KS with right now, opposed to actual physical time to develop. SC didn't come into the campaign with anything but a vision (which was popular once), so it's going to be longer than many current ones. That being said, it's also massive.

Not sure how you figure the story in this game is bigger than Mass Effect as so far they have shown NO content except for Fighter Designs. No Persistent Universe, No Storyboards, some FPS Models which frankly were underwhelming.
Star Citizen will do what every other Chris Roberts Game has done. Over Promise and Under Deliver. The game should have been out ages ago.
Yes yes I know the more money they got the more stretch goals they reached yada, yada, yada. They could have put out the original game and added new content in patches. Under promise over deliver.
I would just about bet my most of my MMO's that this game in the Kickstarter promised format will never be released and by that I mean it will never reach even those goals. WHO CARES if you can see the toilet in the ship if you can't fly it in the PERSISTENT UNIVERSE YOU PROMISED TO BUILD CHRIS!
Before you plug in your flamers let me preamble and say that SC is like a god to me. I happily sacrifice consistently and fruitfully at its alter ... blessed be its name ... however.
I can only believe in a god for so long without demonstrable things like burning bushes and such before I get a little jaded ...
How long until me and my homies are cruising the outer reaches space cowboys style ... for reals ...
I wish I had an answer for dude. But fact is Star Citizen is only halfway into year three of its development and most games generally take 4 to 5 complete and that is if everything goes nearly perfect. But since Star Citizen is more complex and they are breaking a lot of new ground with this type of game. It might take a little longer then normal plus as a backer since May 2014 I would prefer they do it right and not rush it out just because some are unhappy.
If you remember BF4 was rush out the door due to the fans demand and look what happen to it. It was filled with bugs and net codes issue and other problems.
