Every MMO gamer knows of the title “EverQuest.” Some of you actually played it, but the rest usually listen wearily while EQ veterans wax and wane about the so-called glory days. Regardless of your position on the game, there’s no doubting that EQ fans are some of the most passionate you’ll meet, and their insatiable appetite for nostalgia goes unrivaled.

I will be there.
All "WoW was my first MMO" players should try it out. Go play the reason they are playing WoW.
See what a True MMO is like without the hand holding.
Should give them appreciation for what they have today.

I'll be there, already been practicing with a new shaman.
Planning on leveling in Everfrost/BB just long enough to pick up SoW before making the run to Freeport, where shaman will be less common the first few days.

I agree that everyone should try Everquest at least once in there life. I know many people who started during the WoW boom that just cant handle how EQ is and was. Unfortunately WoW has changed the MMO landscape into the instant gratification and all about Me myself and I type of player.
EQ is what all MMOs should be, and by that i mean community and making friends ( or enemies) that you can chat with and have a good time. I play WoW still and i cant tell you how much i dislike the attitudes i see in game. CANT WAIT for Ragefire to go live next week

I totally forgot about the buffs that led to more interaction and made classes that much more special. New MMOs could really learn a thing or two from EQ1.

I get what the writer is saying about your character always being there with an actual server instead of a private one (emulated as they call it) but thats not entirely true about the one person thing. Granted one person could remove all your progress on a private (emulated) server, but that is also true of the professional ones. One top exec decides that the game isn't performing well enough and poof the game goes off line and there goes all your progress.
See: Matrix online, Everquest adventures, CoH. All official, all big MMOs, all gone.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
I still say my favorite day in EQ was the one they'd totally screwed up aggro ranges. ANYTHING in the zone could aggro on you ANYWHERE in that zone.
We had a HUGE number of players lined up in northern ro where desert turns to grass. That was our line in the sand. We were shoulder to shoulder, about 3 rows deep. Tanks in front, casters in back. Pretty much everyone was grouped up, and everyone watched out for everyone elses back without breaking ranks. We just stood there and crushed the onslaught of everything from zombies to mummies, and I don't even remember what else was in that zone. It was a crazy couple of hours before they finally downed the servers to fix it. Everyone got TONS of xp, and more than enough loot to pay for all the expenses incurred and still have a tidy profit for the day.
I doubt I'll ever see anything that epic again, even if someone tries to plan it.
Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...

Never played classic EQ, but might give this a go as I have an all-access sub running for PS2 anyhow.
I don't expect to really get into it, but it might be funny.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
yeah same here, or a monk.
You can play any melee without a weapon and get the increased damage ratio the monk has, as long as the h2h skill is high enough.
