No surprise. I'm happy to see this, hopefully this will keep the game afloat. It's a fantastic game, however, it simply can't compete against subscription based games for players.
Sad thing, people probably still wont play this game when it goes f2p since BnS will be out by then lol. Edit: They're better off changing it to f2p by july/august if they really want anything from the game still.
I still hate the open world combat. Last time I played I got smashed by some respawned monsters that appeared while I was fighting a boss. It's too bad because the art style and setting in the game are great.
I think im going to go over there right now and sub. I think its going to get a lot more active in a few months in Wildstar. Give me time to learn the game and maybe get some raiding done.
are the cash shop items going to be attainable in game by subscribers without having to farm millions of "omni .. whatever the hoozits"? or is it going to be just another typical double dip mechanic with "you can get it in game if you farm for 200 hours"?
Of course they are going to double-dip. Every game that offers a sub + Cash Shop incentivizes you to spend more on top of what you already give them. Expect lockboxes as well.

that usualy how they do the f2p system in most game, some game go guild war 2 route and give only cosmetic stuft for look better with nothing else and a few stuft like open box with a ''pay'' key ( realy dislike this part ) other go full in like archeage, waste 2000 hour or pay 20$ for the same reward, honestly i realy hate the archeage route many game do but they do it because it make more money that just giving cosmetic stuft .
im guessing wildstar will go archeage route but not that bad
imo fake f2p and if you want option or you dont want grind for stuft pay a litle buck here and here, in the end if you are competitive it can cost you way way more that a sub of 14$ months...
but the game failed so they need make some money at the start they will put comestic stuft then they will go all out p2win, when they reach this point we dont know but trust me it will happen, after some time they dont even care about the reputation they got if they got money.

archeage make alot of money curently btw
We can't forget that gw2 that people don't only by cosmetic, people use real money buy gems trade the gems for gold, then buy the flashy gear on the AH.
"So, now that it’s official… will you be coming back to Nexus?"
I stick to what I wrote under the previous column (when it wasn't official yet ), I'll definitely go back to check the model, and probably visit back occasionally, from time to time - but I can't see WS among my main games, or one that I play more than a couple weeks in a row.
Don't get me wrong, WS is a cool game, love the style and the humour, the Paths are pretty unique, and the housing is great. Simply just don't like the rest of it... too grindy, and I don't really care about the endgame either.
Anyways, the model so far (based on the faq and the articles) seems very friendly. Hope the Loyalty rewards will be following Rift's footsteps rather than Ncsoft's earlier f2p CoH, CoH's rewards were meh (but of course that was a whole different era of f2p). What's in the matrix is between the two (AH slots, crafting boosts, wake here cd, etc.)
So yep, I'll go back for the switch, but not sooner. Won't sub throughout the summer, even if the Caretaker would be cool, it doesn't worth 4 months of a sub
Remember this is NCsoft. This is the move they do before final shutdowns. If it doesn't do will as f2p its gone. And i don't see any major changes to this game coming to change how it is now.

Is this something exclusive to NCSoft? You can't get people to play a game for free, so they just leave it up and running indefinitely? With zero people on the servers? You're entirely right, but it applies to any and every game. If it's not making money, it'll be shut down. Sometimes it'll get shut down even when it is making money.
The game was already bad as P2P, it'll be down right awful as F2P. Little brats everywhere, gold spammers clogging up chat, all the dev work focusing on cash shop items. Forget about it.

I had fun once, it was terrible.
2 different genres- id prefer play ESO than BnS..this is Sci fi BnS is fantasy.
bns seems a bit over hyped tbh i dont see the appeal.. even wildstar looks more interesting in my opinion.

Really hope they sell DLC like TSW does.
Should have been done form the start.
Good to see it happen now, will absolutly check it out. After all... who do not like to be a space cowboy with magic guns...
This have been a good conversation
