I'd just like to say that Ultima Online is one big overhyped piece of crap and I'd rather play a real MMORPG any day like Phantasy Star Online:Blue Burst, Ragnarok Online, Maple Story, WoW, FFXI, Guild Wars or Fairyland than crap like this!
Amongst my many reasons are that the levelling-up system is a pile of rubbish, practically everyone I've met come across as being soulless, heartless bastards who only care about themselves and the economy is a pile of shit as well!
The games I've mentioned above may have their faults but at least they're good fun to play whereas this games doesn't deserve the reputation it had or still has!

Age of Shadows messed the game up. I'm sure you would have loved it before Age of Shadows- the community was alot nicer and the armor system was alot better.
In my opinion, the leveling system was great because it allowed you to customize your character's abilities any way you want. However, it's understandeable because I thought it was a little frustrating hitting monsters for hours to get a .1 experience point in a skill.
It was the actions of the players that led to the creation of Trammel. You're playing WoW, a game with absolutely no risk involved at all,and calling people Carebears?
UO WAS not overhyped, and i havent seen anyone hype it lately, had this game stayed locked PRE-Trammel, this game would be the best out, I played UO pre-renaissance and this game was the best, once trammel came out this game lost 60% of its substance, all true PvPers went into hiding and the gameplay was killed.
And next, saying wow has no risk? Yeah maybe not as much as UO did at one time, but last i checked, from level 20-60 everything is in contested territory, meaning any opposing faction can attack you. But wait, that's not risk?
What I mean is that there seems to be little in the way of penalty in WoW when you die, unlike pre-insurance UO days (or even current UO with the insurance "bug"). Don't get me wrong, WoW is good game (not my cup of tea personally, though). UO achieved it's highest subscriber figures after AoS which would suggest (certainly EA seem to think so) that they were going in the right direction. People who never played pre-Tramm/pre-pub 16 will not know what they've missed and it has no real relevance to them now. Some good things coming in the new expansion, but people need to remember it's 7 year old game with the limitations of a 7 year old engine.

Edit: By the way, if you played back in the day, you would know ANYONE that came to Rennaisance started off in Trammel because rennaisance was the expansion that led to Trammel! I guess you played when Age of Shadows came out and just wanted to sound cool lol because you didn't eve know Trammel came with UO:R.

If you are a hardcore PVPer, how come you don't like UO now? It seems only bad PVPers dont like Fellucca because there arent any lowbies there. Can't get your murder count up because noobies dont come to Fellucca? The people there too hard for you to kill? LOL! I'm sorry about your little disposition, newbie carebear boi.

Yeap I agree, Age of Shadows really changed UO to a game I really could not get into. The beauty of UO was its simple weapons/armor system and they made it it to junk after AoS. MMORPGs should add content not change proven systems that has worked for years.

UO us quite possible the best game ever created. It is the kindle that started the fire to all mmorpgs to this date. Without UO there would be no mmorpg.com. Whether it was the ability to be what ever you wanted to the the ability to do what ever you wanted, UO had it all. Want to be a tailor but a warrior at the same time? No problem.
UO didnt have those bullshit skill trees setting your future course before you went on the journey. UO had the most unique skill system, and in my opinion still does. No levels. Nuff said.
Pvp. My god the pvp. If you played pre:uor then you know what im talking about. If you didnt, you are just some carebear wannabe, and have absolutly no legitament say in this thread.

I still don't understand why people who started with UO:R are considered carebears. I played UO:R and still experienced the bounty system and other similar things. The only difference UO:R made was it gave newbies a chance to get better before PVP. Who is the carebear, the guy that wants to get murder counts off lowbies or the guy who fights people his own level? That's all Fellucca did.

So you are saying that pre uo:R newbies NEVER had a chance at developing? That with pre uo:R everyone was automatically good, and never had to work for their characters or learn pvp in a harsh enviroment? Because if that is what you are saying, you my friend, are a fool.
UO:R didnt give newbies a chance as if it was never possible before. UO:R made it EASIER for newbies to develope, hence the name CAREBEARS.
You obviously dont understand the difference with PvP, and PK. PvP is usually consential pvp, where both parties enjoy fighting. Can be guild wars, order/chaos, or blue on red. Pking is the killing of anyone and everyone regardless of the other persons intention.

Nothing will ever beat what UO was ive said that a million times, but as a pioneer to the pacific shard i can safly say this, first DarKMaN on the shard (WooT!) i still remember the day i logged in and all the trees were dead and there was a new scroll next to my profile scroll (the stupid team thing) and the mail bag above my head was gone. and these crazy "moonstone" things started showing up that did nothing.. to me that was the day UO got cut, and its been bleeding and dying more and more as the days go on.

Pre-UO:R was good, I'm not bashing it. UO:R was good. If you ever played AOS, you would see how awful it is, and suddenly you realise that UO:R wasnt that bad after all. Seriously, try out AOS and see what really destroyed this game.
Besides, I level up most of my characters in Fellucca because you get 2x gains, especially my miner (since you get 2x ore too) so I don't consider myself a carebear.
Personally I didn't start playing until LBR came out for the pure and simple reason that this was when I got internet access. I don't care what happened before, I've not experienced it and I can't compare it to now. I never experienced the pre-Tramm days and I don't care. What I do care about is enjoying the game, which I am still doing.
You know you have won an arguement over the internet when the opposition resorts to making ignorant, incoherrent and blatently bias invalid statements about you.
I find it silly that there was even the need for a debate regarding this issue. Its a proven fact that uo:r was the demise of UO. Real UO, UO when it mattered. Post UO:r is for tellytubby loving carebears.

Highest subscriptions after AoS? Are you insane. Right after AoS came SWG and people left the game in droves. AoS was always and still is the worst thing about this game and many veterans left and most of us that do come back stay for no time at all because of the suckiness of current gameplay.
UO didn't make the MMORPG market. MUDs did. Every game that came after EQ coppied EQ not UO. UO might have been the first but no game has ever actually coppied. EQ was the game that really launched the market and made it what it was today. Play EQ then play DAoC and then play WoW. None of them are like UO and they are all like each other.
Impertrator will be the UO clone game and it will be Third Generation with some super sweet graphics and a better support/development team. It has a good chance of putting a HUGE dent in an already dented UO. It might actually kill it. Not to mention, MEO and D&D Online are about to come out. As more and more games flood the market that people have always wanted to play more and more people leave UO. Someday soon it will surely die.

If there was no UO:R this game would have died about 3 years ago. People got sick and tired of playing a free-for-all PvP world and many new players wouldn't come to the game before UO:R. I heard about it way before UO:R and was told anyone can kill you at any time. I said, screw that and wouldn't bother playng. I started playing after UO:R. If you need any other proof. There is a reason why more people look back at EQ than UO and that is because EQ kicked UOs but the second it came out. Why? One of the major reasons was no non-consentual PvP and thats the way it should be.
UO would have died out 3 years ago if their wasnt uo:R? Reality check. OSI UO DIED BECAUSE OF UO:R. The population decrease after uo:r, and population increase with player run servers says it all. Did you even play pre uo:R? Why am I even debating this with someone who makes invalid and sometimes incoherrent statements about something they NEVER EXPERIENCED?
Free for all pvp? Would you mind defining that term for me? That is of course if you even know what youre talking about. Pre uo:r still had guarded zones where players could carebear it up without any worrys of dying. Once you left town, it was a different situation, which provided players with a little challenge. But hey, we all understand why people like you enjoyed "non-consentual" pvp. Because your carebear ass couldnt pvp. Its a simple as that. You wanted everything handed too you, and didnt want to work for fame.
New players wouldnt come to OSI pre uo:r? Where in the hell do you get this stuff from? You need to stop eating garbage out of the trashcan, pooping it out, and then throwing that BS on the forums. UO had its largest populations pre:uor.

There are two types of online players. The first type are people who believe the more hours they spend grinding to level 100 in order to out-stat their opponents, the better they are at the game. The second type are people who want their real life skill to show through their character through twitch gaming and overall strategy. You my friend are the first type, hence the worn out name "carebear".
When I first bought the game, I went to Trinsic. I obviously had no information about the games mechanics. I remember walking outside of town and seeing a "red" player. Then he said "corp por" and a boomerang like object flew towards me and then I saw grey. That was my first death in UO, and probably one of my most fond/memorable moments. From then on, I knew pvp was for me.
To fight or to craft a fancy dress. What a tough decision...
