The last thing SoE needs is a half-assed EQ clone, based off of a good movie franchise.

Don't you mean, A good movie?  The last two went the way of the Highlander 2+ route.

all 3 movies are awesome IMO. the first will always be the best because it's the classic "Average guy becomes superman". You can't recapture that in all 3 movies, they had a story to tell, and they told it well.  If you watch all 3 together in order it flows with the best of them.

While I cannot say for a fact SOE bought them, I can confirm through a friend of mine who's a GM that mass layoffs are indeed happening. I cannot confirm MxO has been sold, nor can I confirm Monolith is getting out of MMOs, but it'd make sense with the mass layoffs. If my friend wasn't under an NDA, he'd be able to confirm everything for me, but all he was allowed to share was about the layoffs. However, Monolith is not closing, as he's trying to transfer to another department.

(Edit: Put the wrong company name in. Read an article on Mythic and used that name rather than Monolith as it was)

If indeed true, which by the simple fact no one MxO has flat out denied this, is really sad. I played MxO from beta till a bit after release and there were some die hard fans in the game, shame to treat there players like this really.

Oh well, maybe in the end it'll be for the best, SOE can be blamed for ruining another movie franchise :)

SOE's a good company...unless you need customer service. Then you're screwed. They should be able to do a decent job on MxO as a game, but MxO will still have awful CS.

SOE has also acquired the rights from Monolith for another MMO that was in development but recently cancelled a DC Comics MMOG. (ed: Remember the DC vs. NCSoft squabble?)

No, but i remember the Marvel comics sueing NCsoft squabble. this makes me wonder if any of it is ture.

One bright cloud of silver lining if this is true: MxO would likely be available under the Station Access plan. That would likely mean a whole lot more potential players playing the game.

  • brian72282brian72282 Member UncommonPosts: 783

Indeed. MxO needs a bigger audience if it's gonna survive, and well, the station pass would accomplish that.

Well I guess anything regarding SOE is a matter of oppinion, I hate what they've done with SWG and yet I love what their doing with EQ2. As with most things with players and MMO's, it's all subjective.

I just hope they do right by the players, many of them deserve a good decent game to play, as they've stuck by it since the begining.

Fired the whole events team, eh? Am I wrong, or was that the one thing that made MxO even tolerable among it's player base (the live events that they did)?

That is, indeed, what everyone kept bringing up as the reason to play this EQ/CoH clone. But like all games with "event teams", most people will never experience the events and thus it's just a waste of time and money.

That's a symptom of how they currently design the events in games. Someday some designer will come up with a way to run them that does not require constant supervision and too many extra man hours, that is still fun and immersive. I have some ideas, but I'm not going to squander them here hehe. Maybe on the DDO forums...

I honestly dont see what you guys see in DDO, is the nostalgia clouding your vision.  The FAQ was enough to make me sick to my stomache, it looks like the single worst MMORPG in development as of now.

MxO used the aol call center to do its billing, I left solely because of that. Game has potential, which is more than can be said of many on the market today. But i refuse to knowingly give money to aol in any manner.

This sale makes it likely that i will return, because soe or joe blow company off the street, anyone is better at handling billing and more trustworthy than aol. it may not be 'supergame' but neither is it supersuck.

I thikn the sale is good news

and yes, i have a grudge.

What a shame, what a shame..

Satans Online Empire has purchased my game.

TIME TO UNLOCK MY NEO SLOT! (God help us . . .)

P.S. I left SWG to get away from SOE, now its chased me to MXO. This sucks :P

As I said in the MxO forums here, MxO isn't worth $15 a month to me, but add it to Station Access and i"ll convert my bete account to a paying account. image

How much backlash was the storyline given by killing off Morpheus, Geez I remember them announcing how they were going to have the real voice actors doing the characters, oops....only for 2 months into release of the game. :P

That guy who made the comment about opening his Neo Slot character, great line you had. ;)

Any guesses if they raise the price on the all action pass?

I thought about that too. If MxO gets added to the SOE roster, I wouldn't be surprised if it bumped up the price of the all access pass a bit.

EQ, EQ2, SWG, Planetside, 3 smaller games, and some other stuff for less than the cost of 2 MMOs...yep that's greedy.
