    It's Smedley, he deserved it.

You are an idiot. Grow up.

I am quite grown up. When you have a history of destroying games, bashing people publicly who disagree with you, and firing all your employee's while you keep your job, then you get what you deserve. Smedley, is reaping what he has sown for so many years.

You are in no way "very grown up" if you think being kind of douchey means people should be able to dump your personal info online, call the SWAT team to your house, ruin your credit score, and grounding a plane that you're on with a bomb threat. That has all the markings of a child that is throwing a tantrum.

These script kiddies can see the sun setting on their idiocy. The FBI is now building a case because of the bomb threat and claims of affiliation with ISIS. Just the bomb threat carries a 50 year MINIMUM federal prison sentence. Jokes about ISIS can land you in a kennel cage at Gitmo. It's now only a matter of time. I would almost guarantee this kid who got caught rolled over on his buddies. He was charged with FIFTY THOUSAND seperate cybercrimes charges. Getting off with no time means he sung like a canary. I hope being a douchenozzle for the sake of being a douchenozzle was worth it.....

LOL The only trap is Smed's mouth, he'd better learn to keep it shut.

Smed has nothing to fear from those high school script kiddies. I am sure, like the first guy, any hackers will be caught very quickly.

This video sums it up nicely.

He don't need to sing, its Finland , all nordic countries have pathetic justice systems, you can kill an entire family and get off with our life sentence which means 16 years, a guy in Denmark where i come from, killed 4 cops, he got out after 30 years.

Thats the longest someone has ever sat in prison for in Denmark, even Anders Breivik who killed all those people in Norway sits in a luxury of a prison right now, his own little private wing with fitness room, living room and what not.

Obviously you don't have a clue about our pathetic justice system in the nordic countries and thats quite okay, the judge was lenient on him because he is a kid, i however believe he should be extradited to the U.S and they could stick him in Gitmo or stick him in a federal super max for 25 to life, and while their at it they could torture him for information, fry his little brain, make sure it wont work no more.

I have absolutely no respect for terrorism of any kind.

Man, if that was a lenient sentence, these little dbags are gonna have a rude awakening when they are extradited to the US and a "lenient" sentence is 25 years with a chance of parole. Daybreak moved a lot of their offices to Bend, OR. I have no doubt it is not a coincedence that an FBI cybercrimes sattelite office went up there not long after the bomb threat. My guess was this tweet was the cheese in the script kiddie trap.

You probably need to grow up a bit. You apparently live in a world where actions do not have consequences either good or bad. Someday I would like to visit your world, I'm sure it is all sunshine and rainbows. Here in the real world though, when you act like a douche, you get treated like one. Smedley has been a horrible human being for years. I do not feel sorry for him now that it is being paid back.  There are a lot bigger problems in the world to feel bad about than to shed any tears over a multimillionaire douche who walks all over people.

Feel free to allocate your tears for the dirtbag that is Smedley though. That is your choice.

I don't think I've seen a solitary post where anyone said Smedley was a saint, we all know he's not the greatest guy. but it doesnt matter if you think he's an ass or not, you just dont treat people like he is being treated. The fact you so whole heartedly think he deserves this makes you worse than even what you presume him to be.

and on that note I would love to hear what it is that Smed did to you haters that you think he deserves this? So far I've saw : he changed SWG and then shut it down ( his JOB ), uhm also  he talked trash (not illeagal). I do not recall hearing about him killing anyone, hurting anyone, stealing anyones girl, or kicking puppies.

The only reason you guys hate him is for his bussiness practices, and if you hate him so much and his company SO much, then WHY THE HELL DOES THIS EVEN PERTAIN TO YOU! you should have cancelled and moved on a long LONG time ago

While I agree with all of what you say I think a couple of things need to be added.

What this child did was make a few crank phone calls and play with his computer in a toxic way.  It seems to me this is little different to TP'ing a house or knocking on a door and running or any number of 'pranks' that kids of this age have been doing for all time.  They do it to authority figures, particularly those they dislike.  Immature, rebellious, puerile.... of course.  Deserving of punishment yes, but proportionate punishment.

What is wrong with this scenario is the reach that these kids get through using the internet and that is our fault not theirs.

It should not be possible for a child to SWAT someone, that is the fault of the police and the community for setting up systems that allow it.

It should not be possible for a child to ruin some strangers credit rating, that is the fault of the credit rating companies not the child.

Finally DDOS attacks have been happening for a long time now.  We should have learned how to deal with them at the source.  Not do nothing and then blame some child for our indolence.

One day these cyber terrorists will be treated like real terrorists.  They should be sent to gitmo to set an example.  Modern hackers aren't your hollywood version.  They are very disruptive and take control over systems critical software which could cause massive deaths.  Drones, subways, planes, military equipment, financial markets, etc.  It's a constant war that nobody sees.

Yes, it must be us who need to "grow up". No one, NOT ONE PERSON, has said Smed is an angel. However, you have to be some sort of mentally challenged child if you think costing a company millions of dollars and terrorizing a man and his family is just desserts because he once made a change to a game you liked or had a differing opinion than yours and had the gall to say it. This is no different than saying honor killings are no big deal because the women brought it on themselves. You know, a HUGE over reaction to what is essentially nothing to those of us who aren't mentally ill.

I don't consider 17 a child, maybe young adult is more fitting. I am sorry but at 17 years old you should know that messing with someones credit is bad mmk, calling in a bomb threat is bad mmk. using the argument that it's a child and therefore should get less punishment is a joke to me.

also, off topic, but Happy 7-11 day! Slurpies are on me

    Criminal behavior?  Get a grip.

In any case he is a child, teens are not adults and are not treated as such before the courts.  He was brought before the court in his country tried and sentenced by that court.  None of which I protest, proportional punishment as imposed by the court.

Secondly I am not blaming the victims: Smedley and his family.  I am blaming the institutions that have failed to put in place systems appropriate to the internet age that would filter out the actions of children rather than amplifying their acts into real harm.

Well, at least I know I'm debating someone with the IQ of a house fly. I suppose 9/11 was just a minor aviation accident?

The attack on the World Trade Center was performed by adults not children.  I do not condone it, I condemn it.

This child and others like him did not take any lives, hijack any planes destroy any buildings.  You are being hysterical.

Nor did they ruin his credit score, the company did that on the basis of bad information.  Information they should have detected as bad.  It is not as if this has never happened before.

Nor did these children send SWAT teams to his house, the police department staffed by adults did that.  That they acted without detecting the source of the bad information is their fault not the child's.

Their ability to disrupt service to tens of thousands of DBG customers is again the fault of the adults providing the service not that of the child exploiting a known fault that has been known for years without anyone taking serious steps to eliminated the vulnerability.

The bomb threat is a more of a concern, but that matter is still to be dealt with by the courts.  But again the ability of a child in Scandinavia to make a crank call to the US and ground a domestic flight suggests that the adults involved panicked rather than acted with due diligence.

Another post excusing criminal behavior.  Why am i not surprised though?  Stop blaming the victims, and stop referring to him as a child, when he's obviously a teen.  They get away with this stuff because of people like you.

Doxxing? Criminal offense. Swatting? Criminal offense. Wire fraud (false credit checks)? Criminal offense. Bomb threats? Criminal offense. So yes, Lizard Tards apologist, criminal behavior. Anyone who thinks a two year suspended sentence for FIFTY THOUSAND COUNTS of assorted cybercrimes is "justice served" is either a Lizarf Squad jock rider, or someone who dislikes Smed enough to make excuses. PS: in most countries now, you are charged as an adult at 16. The fact that you think somehow, 17 = child and 18 =adult is laughable. Like sometime that year, they suddenly learn right from wrong, like a heavenly epiphany.

also, off topic, but Happy 7-11 day! Slurpies are on me

The child was 17 at the time of sentencing, I am not certain but I believe he may have been still 15 at the time of the offenses. Either way legally a child.  The treatment of children before the courts has always been different from the treatment of adults.  Just as crimes, particularly sexual crimes, against children by adults are treated more harshly.

If you really think that placing restrictions on a 17 year old self proclaimed "hacker" is going to stop them from getting on the internet, or that somehow an adult somewhere is to blame for forcing a plane to land when a bomb threat is placed on it, you are cracked in the head.these lizard squad "kids" as you call them are CRIMINALS period, end of story. Quit making excuses.

17 can be tried as an adult, at least in the US. if he was 15 I can't say, but seeing as how they just comited another DDoS attack yesterday well i guess they can go to prison for that instead

So wait....because of some arbitrary age you have chosen to still deem a "child", he therefor somehow did not commit the crimes he fully admitted to and pled guilty for? I suppose Columbine never happened then? After all, Derek and Dylan were "children"....

DOXING please cite the relevant statute and legal precedent for this being a "criminal" offense, also make sure that you cite the law for the country in which the offense is alleged to have occurred

SWATTING again please cite the relevant statute in the jurisdiction where the alleged offense is said to have occurred and BTW how did the Police Department fail to realize it was a hoax the first time, and why did they continue to make this same mistake over and over again.

Bomb threat, not bomb threats.  As I have said elsewhere this one is yet to be heard by the courts.  Also why did the relevant people not realize something was amiss with an international call about a domestic flight?

Finally it is not up to me or your to sentence someone, that is done by the judge.

I do not excuse the behavior of these children, I expect them to be punished for their behavior. BUT I do not condone the actions of a large number of adults who amplified the actions of these children and turned them into much larger incidents. NOR do I expect them to be punished for the final impact of their actions without the adults sharing the blame.

In this day and age and F 'ed up world we live in it doesn't matter where a call comes from it could come from someone on the international space station for all we care, a bomb threat to a plane is taken dead serious. it's not upto an "adult" as you put it to decide if they are joking sheesh
