Stop installing BLOATWARE on my PC AMD.

KiyorisKiyoris Member RarePosts: 2,130

So, I install a fresh copy of Windows 7.

I install Firefox, network drivers, BIOS update, printer drivers, GPU driver.

I check my running processes....there is some program called Raptr running alongside explorer.

I'm thinking...how can this be...I haven't even been online and now I have bloatware on my PC? What's going on?

Apparently AMD installs bloatware like Raptr when you install a driver.

Why. Why do they package their driver with bloatware.

I uninstalled it, but I didn't want it, I don't want my clean register to get messy with **** like bloatware

Stop doing that AMD.

Yeah, it is annoying, my last computer was a AMD as well, had to clear out it as well. It is something not essential stealing PCU and memory from you no matter how cool the devs say it is.

But whatever you do, don't raid your drives on a AMD, their raiding software is the worst I seen and makes me long for raptr (yeah, thats not really on topic, just a tip).

I want to get rid of GeForce Experience and 3D Photo viewer. So yeah, it's cross-aisle abuse. Raptr is just AMD's counter to GeForce Experience... so I blame nVidia for that one on both counts.

At least they don't install Java, Yahoo! web browser tool bar, Pando Media Booster, and the Ask.com deal of the day.

Just get rid of them all if you don't need 'em. I use Geforce experience myself but just because I'm too lazy to constantly check for new drivers and have loads of memory and a really quick CPU.

To be honest did my original GFX driver disc not have geforce experience as standard anyways, just as an extra option which feels better. And I clear out everything I don't use once a month or so.

What RAID software does AMD make?

In other words you did an express install instead of a custom install. Do a custom install in order to opt out of the Raptr application. Always choose a custom install when installing any application. Always read each page before you click Next. Other wise you get stuff like this.

You could also uncheck adware installs instead of mindlessly clicking "I agree" and" yes" on every ticker you see.

They ask you politely if they can install crap on your pc, if you accept, it is not their fault.

I've been a custom installer since 2004, and I've never looked back.

People who don't understand PC's gets what they deserve.

People who take some effort would know if custom install you won't get rptor or at least do some research so you won't make silly topics or get replies from people who have also no knowledge(like that first guy replying to your topic), showing how average and lack of knowledge they have concerning PC.

I love Raptr, it auto updates my drivers. Also if you register it you earn points as you play games. You can use the points to get games for free or at a great discount. Or you can save up a tone of points and get a free video card. Dont bash it till you have read up on what it is =-)

Indeed in many many software installs they want to "offer" you junk along with the main application your trying to install so using the custom install is pretty much a must do now.

If someone is stupid enough to click next>next>next during any kind of software installation they deserve all the bloatware any company provide with their software. people should learn to read and understand what they are installing in their system. they should also learn how to disable startup of programs and services. and raptr is not a bloatware, it is a great tool to have installed if you area gamer and amd has exclusive deal with raptr on their products, you can even buy their graphics card from raptr deals with raptr points instead of $. but of course people who have crap like x-fire installed on their system would never want to install raptr.

It shouldn't be there to begin with. There shouldn't be hidden programs within programs.

AMD is adding adware to drivers without the user's explicit consent. I wish there were some laws that would curb this practice, because it's dishonest.

And adding this to a driver install? Really, we're going to add adware to drivers now? Come on.

you were caught off-guard because a company installed a tag-along component? I'd be caught off-guard if they didn't tbh. It's not a new thing and everybody does it. Be careful when you install adobe reader/flash, your printer, your office software, your online browser, your ...

It is explicitly stated during the install process that in order to not install the Raptr application you must choose the custom installation option. Deciding to not read the installation instructions is by default the user's explicit consent. Choosing to remain ignorant, by not reading, when you are provided the written consequences of your choice is the user's problem.

AMD thinks the app will help the user but they explicitly offer the option to not install it.

    Explicitly means clearly.

It doesn't explicitly state it when I can find many threads similar to this one, where people are complaining about the same thing.

If it was clearly marked, these threads wouldn't exist to begin with.

The fact there are so many threads about this, means AMD should address this. Hiding software within drivers is a despicable practice.

The mere fact that when people try to download a driver, they are actually downloading another program, is reprehensible. If people download a driver, they should get a driver and nothing else.

I think everyone knows how adware works thank you. People click Next several times, and the default option ads adware if you're clicking Next. And before people know it, they have adware on their PC.

A driver install should never include bloatware.

Who even installs anything on their pc without selecting Custom Install? As for Raptr is clearly stated that its a part of the express install. /facepalm

Since when is it ok to ad bloatware to a driver install?

I have been using PC for 2 decades now, and I have never seen bloatware being added to a driver until now.

I can't disagree with the last sentence. but people who choose to remain ignorant of what is must accept the consequences. Choosing to not read something that is important like a driver install has consequences.
