Now over a week in, and about 20-plus hours into life as an immortal, we’re delving further into the nuts and bolts of My.Com’s Skyforge. A brand new F2P MMORPG from Allods Team and Obsidian, there’s no denying Skyforge is a beautiful game with a unique take on the MMO forumula. But does it have the draw to keep players going? Read on for week two of our Review in Progress series.

Ya I fully agree Bill, been playing non stop and have had some issues. My normal guild has about 10 people playing and we still cant figure out how to use the social system in the game so we end up using TeamSpeak outside just to communicate.
Frustration 1..I fully agree as its taken me this whole time to get one more building block from Slayer and a millennium away from Gunner. The only issue I see here is if they were to do this than there would be no real draw to the in game store for help.
Frustration 2..This is what really makes the game grindy, love the storyline areas's where you can get multiple drops but these areas are really limited.
Frustration 3 - pointless needs a huge overhaul in game for sure
1. I agree with this problem. As far as DPS classes go I like to play ranged and giving me the Zerker 0to start is nice and all, I want to switch between the Paladin and Kinetic, maybe the archer. So this weekend when my wife and I were teamed with another Pally, I didnt have a DPS class I could switch to I liked. Our teamed failed as all of us were working towards the DPS class we wanted to play and 3 support classes were not enough DPS to get the last boss done. Sad fail.
FIX: I wish they would let us at the start pick 3 classes we start with. Start where you want on the AA and work towards unlocking the rest. IMO I love the idea of unlocking new classes but not having what I need to make a functional team in a game thats all about freedom of class, is a small fail.
2. Dont care... as long as I have bosses to down Im happy. I will use the sparks sometime and Im in no rush to unlock anything. I love working towards something and SF gives me lots of that. I also have never been big on going to kill greys.
FIX: Lets us access the open worlds but add a scaling mechanic to them. Says every 1000 prestige gap you get a new shard of that map with mobs in the scale 500-1500 next map 1501-2500 etc.
3. I have had no problems with the in game systems finding teams and hanging with guildies. I know there is much work is needed to make it feel MMOish in this area but I am willing to wait.
I also am having a blast but I know this is a game that needs work but IMO its a gem in the rough. I think it can really be something but thats not in our hands. I will play it as long as I have fun. Like GW2 was for me, first time in 2 years I uninstalled GW2, was great till it wasnt and I will play SF the same way.
2 ways, make a team first. Then click group finder and the game will find a 3rd person to team up with. Game scales the mission for you and the rewards. Lots of fun. Or you get the lowest prestige level member in the team to click join solo and there is no scaling and you get chucked into the instance. If your prestige level is way to far off from each other, the guy with the higher level gets next to nothing as a reward. Sometime soon they will be adding scaling to the join solo and everyone will get rewarded
I find the spark caps (you need these to open a class) to be annoying. Once I've hit it my motivation level to play is pretty low.
I'd rather be able to either pay to unlock the class and not worry about the silly caps at that point because I'm playing the class I want. The premium access is pointless with spark caps if you play even slightly above really casual.

i played until i had only one quest available to me over n over again- i didnt see any other quests available -ats when i called it.
-nice graphics though.but ill be playing ESO, SWTOR n wildstar this fall.
I. The unlocking classes is just stupid
2.Reuse of the same maps for different named zones.
3. Stuck in mission story because not having enough prestige.
4. have to grind for prestige all the time to go forward in story.
5. Not be able to explore that city that looks amazing below the lobby.
6 Not really an mmo but a lobby game.
Couple of things I strongly disagree with in this review
#1 Archer.. give it another shot and learn to play it. Took me awhile to learn the archer and the testing area really did not teach you the class at all. The archer played well is top burst dps way beyond the kinetic that most people claim. The real weakness of the archer is they are made out of paper and cheap wet paper at that.
A few tips to the archer open with the AOE fire bomb attack.. click right mouse twice then hold left until fully charged. Then just hit with the AOE knock down over and over.. click right mouse once then hold left until fully charged..
Since I have mastered my archer any group I am with can dominate any dungeon.. we have come across I just keep all the mobs on their backs the entire fight.
Even barebones with hardly any skills the archer is a force to be feared and god help you if I end up in a 10 v 10 pvp against you.
However let me add I do have 3 accounts, and my cryomage and my lightbender are nothing to shake a stick at either. My lightbender in consistently getting cussed out by the " pro " pvpers, you know the type the ones who are constantly wanting to duel to bully other players and always bragging about how awesome they are and about how they got the best build in game yada yada.
I SUCK at pvp, let me say that again I suck, I am old and slow and have fat fingers that miss keys, ( I can not even tell ya how many times I open my backpack when I go to hit my V attack ) and yet my lightbender has NEVER lost a duel and am always in the top 3 in any pvp match, and no I am not one of those who does nothing then steals the kill like most people.
As for the map unlocks, you need to play more, you really have not put in enough time or something. At 9k + prestige, I have around 14 missions unlocked, 2 open areas, 2 testing grounds, 3 pvp zones, and a partridge in a pear tree. I kinda see what you are saying, but replaying the open zones is actually very useful once trophy drops start happening. I have 2 green trophys complete and working on a third.
Also understand they are kinda trying to tell a story and move you according to the story progression while giving you a sense of freedom. Also think about the chaos if high levels could go back to low level zones at whim and mass slaughter all the mobs. Poor noobs would never be able to complete a quest.
Lastly the social system OMFG your complaint is not strong enough!!! The social system sucks!! Especially the chat system that eats half of what you type. And WTH is with a chat window for each friend opening everytime I log on. It is rediculous.
You know the cap is only for sparks and money. There are other important ways to progress your chars once you hit cap?
I found class unlocks frustrating right from start. Actually like Skyforge, for me I didn't really care for any of starter classes. I wanted to just play the monk no other way to get to it. Ithen later found out after hours of game play the monk was thousands of sparks away. You can only view the upper atlas after unlock to see how freaking much of a grind it is.
Then on top of that you got a spark cap which refreshes once a week. After you hit cap class progression to my monk unlock is at a standstill. Sure you can grind follower resources and costume crap, nty. I think it would been better to have access to all the classes and kept the progression spark grind for each of them. I mean it's not like after that long grind to that class unlock it's some advanced class for all your hard work, just another class.
If I was the developer I would be concerned that people would log off after cap waiting for reset and onto other games. What I did, got to about 5k with the LB capped and logged off. Bad move on game design IMO and just another game for me that came so very close to something that could have been very good.
Oh and I almost forgot the Ascension Atlas is PERFECT!!! I pray to god that the devs not give into the " gimme now " gamers that demand everything handed to them on a platter and want the best of everything with no work or time commitment.
I was FURIOUS in SWG I spent a year unlocking jedi jumping thru hopes on the quest that never ended and 3 days after I earn it they GIVE it to any idiot that wants it.
If you want something that apply yourself stop being so damn entitled, work for it and it will feel real real good when you finally earn it.
I agree with the article. In all my years of gaming I've never run into a game that says you've been capped. You can't play the way you've been playing until the cap resets. 0.o
I miss not being able to go back and check out some of the old zones. I find the leveling addictive but very constrained. To be viable you have to play the chapel mini game (gives you lots of health and prestige) or you will die a lot.
Like a lot of skill trees in other games you have to take a lot of the stuff you don't want to get to what you want.
I hate slow skill timers.
When you do unlock a class it's weak and missing main skills. You still have to use your main to put points into it until it's viable, unless you reserved a lot of skill points so you can fill it's tree right away.
Well it's still in beta. See how much is changed before launch.

I have been playing a lot since early access. I don't mind the spark caps too much as I can still gain class sparks (I progressed 3 classes to the point where they need class sparks) so I change it up between the classes.
I am currently on 8k prestige and I have not been rushing. I got to Necro in the Atlas as that was the class I really wanted to play after trying it in the practice hall. Wow what a mistake, I just cant get used to it, too many alternate states in the class learning curve too steep to be bothered with. The thing that really got to me as I unlocked Necro was not the grind to get there but how much the cost of 1 step on the altlas has got to. Had a step stayed between 200 and 400 sparks np but now it is up to 625 a step that is way to over the top, just makes the grind seem endless.
The other thing that is really getting to me now is the weightless combat and the semi Tab target with dodge only being useful for dodging heavy attacks everything else just homes in on you. I have found now trying to tackle some of the harder instances for my prest lvl, it is a case of just a dps race with some of the bosses. You spend your whole time backpedalling (this is on LB my main class) trying to mitigate as much damage as possible with no way to avoid it or keep a Boss of you, until u knock a life bar off him and he drops a heal globe to boost your life back up a bit, all the time trying to DPs him and hoping u knock his last life bar down before your damage mitigation cannot slow his damage any more.
Probably didn't explain that last paragraph well but it is making combat a dull kite backwards clicking left and right MB and occasionally munber1 and number 2 n 4 when recharged (shields), with no way of actually avoiding being hit and the only way u know u got hit is cos your life bar goes down. Just getting overly repetitive now.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
I believe i capitalized the word CHOICE on many occasions.
I never once felt like i was playing a class, instead i felt like i was playing my left/right mouse buttons.
I cannot stand scaling of any kind,so that is not a good option.
I love how they got this bending line in the Atlas but you only get one choice, well i guess you don't really get a choice lmao.
That game was so easy for them to make it is not funny,it is a total budget build.
I normally would choose a MMO over a single player game anyday, but i would replay old Serious Sam games before Skyforge anytime anywhere anyplace "Nena+Kim" lol.
There is not one single idea in the game worth mentioning or playing, the Atlas from FFX and geesh even from POE blows the doors off this half assed effort.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
My frustrations are the people who play just 1 class and refuse to change. Once we got matchmade with 3 attackers, other time I was the sole dps with 2 tanks. While only 1 had aggro on bossfight, I was in charge of mechanics running from south to north of the map and not being able to kill stuff in time and getting the blame for fails while the second tank without aggro kept dying withing first 2 boss special moves.
Unlocking classes is indeed tedious and if you halfway through decide not to go for a specific class (like I had with archer, I halfway through decided not to go for it), you're basically screwed, unless you try for necromancer, which is the same distance as archer from the base classes. Main frustration about this is the inability to reset the atlas or at least reset last unlocked clusters.
Another thing, you can't play with friends unless they're the same prestige range as you are. Which is disappointing because in MMOs you should be playing with friends but SF won't let you if any of you progress bit faster than the other. As if we all have to spend the same amount of time on this game, because you know, we all lead exactly the same daily routines.
As we have already figured out, you have not gotten far into the game. But what you have cover many times and the questions ask of you, At best you got to 500-800 prestige. You unlock many skills in the AA and it takes about 2500 points before you really have the base class skills. 5K + you start to get options. You are judging a game you have barely played. Judge it from that standing. Talk about the starting areas and the like. I have yet to read a post from you on any game thats positive, do you like any game at all?
The RPS review of Skyforge had some amusing lines, like:
"I do love how the Premium membership option, which you can buy from between 3 and 180 days, opts to sell this as “Reach weekly limits sooner”. Yes! Give us your money and you won’t… have… to play our game as much. Hmm.."
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/07/20/skyforge-is-it-worth-your-time/#more-302601
The only logical reason I can think of for these bizarre weekly caps is that at some point in the future, you'll be able to pay real money to raise the cap limit and/or make it go away.
