I wish them luck, but in practice getting your ideas to work well in game mechanisms constitutes a very difficult task.

The whole "each soul has a destiny" makes me very skeptical. Unless it's something very generic that you get at random there's pretty much no way to pull that off.

It's clear that the inspiration for the idea came from Wheel of Time, but I highly doubt that our character's going to be Rand, Mat or Perrin. :P

And even if such a heroic destiny got assigned to some random guy, who's to say it wouldn't be to one of the mayfly MMOers that just pops in one day, plays for a week at best, and is then gone forever again?

The game sounds interesting so far, but I won't be holding my breath. And I'm also waiting for them to reveal it's going to be yet another full PvP gankfest with ugly graphics.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Sounds very interesting, like my dreamgame lol. I alos like the fact, that this startup seems to have people running it, who actually know how to make a game. Also the fact, that the dude put his own money into it.

Now...there is a problem. Everything that can be exploited, will be exploited. Usually by a small number of players, who do everything in their power to play against the game, but large enough to force the devs to make compromises, tighten game rules, and well, take a bit of sand out of the box.

I'm sorry, I already get more than enough aging based content in the real world, not something I'm looking for in a game.
  • KothosesKothoses Member UncommonPosts: 931

Not to sound like a whiney carebare, but why cant some one make a sandbox style game that doesnt involve full loot.   I get it, you would need a PVE element which detracts from the sandbox, but still, something with exploration, bosses, crafting but where its not me vs everyone.

It seems its either PVE themepark or PVP sandbox, with no inbetween....

I wish them luck, the Sandbox crowd have been neglected for a long time, I just wish for something that bridged the two genres...

A Quote from their web page

    • Chronicles of Elyria uses a unique business model that harkens back to the days of coin-op arcade machines. In short, when you buy the game you get a free life. Then, you play until your character dies the "Final Death" (perma-death). After that, you buy another life from the character creation screen and continue on.

Sorry if this developer thinks I am stupid I am sorry I am not buying a life everytime I die in game.  This publisher is F'in nuts.  Again its either P2P or nothing at all.  I swear these developers keep trying to come up with some very stupid games and game designs lately.

    Edit

I am getting to the point that MMORPG.com is wasting my time as well as everyone else's time with Bull like this.  Really?  Do we really think there is enough of a market to have another game with PD that you can just get around with your wallet?  That was called WO which FAILED.

Ok other bullshit do we really think that people today will accept stuff like Full Looting of players?  AA had looting of trade packs and that  really didnt go over well because when there are 80 people sitting at the turn-in location no one would take the risk anymore.

Again BS like this game needs to stop popping up because all that people are going to do is spend more money on ideas of games that will NEVER come out.  Sorry but they will not and people need to start to wake up about this.  So you think that India has all these good developers that will create your MMO you want and make it work?  When will you people wake up.  Its a scam.  I work with Indian developers and I can tell you sometimes they tire anyone off the street and that person might not know how to use a computer but today they will be your developer and be told to figure out how to create X boss to do a 5 phase fight.  You know how I know?  Guess what I have seen it from being in IT for 11 years.  These games you are all dreaming coming from India will be a disappointment.  At least single player/ non MMO games coming out of India with a proven publisher will come out and meet a low standard for a game, these kickstarters not a chance.  They tell you some sweet words you invest and they are not held accountable for a product.

Holy hell, where do I sign up!!?! A true sandbox experience that attempts to mimic realism in the form a video game cannot have unrealistic gimmick's like no player looting, as per the complaining above. This sounds exactly like a living and breathing sandbox world that many have been clamoring for, for years.

While I'm sure they'll have plenty of struggles accomplishing this, I whole heartedly wish them the best of luck and should a kickstarter arise in the near future with these ideas, I'd back them with more enthusiasm than I did CU.

So I start out as a willy nilly wannabe badass hero only to die and end up in the body of my son/daughter. This time around I'm a bit more wiser, so I take my time to learn all that I can about being a willy nilly badass hero and trek off to god knows where.

BUT WAIT! I forgot to pack my gear right, and I die a slow painful death....again.

Now I wake up as my grandson/grand-daughter, and I know wayyy more than I did the first or second times around and a make it a point to learn how to be a real badass adventure. Now takes chances when I understand the odds are with me...

    Sign me up!

Costs way to much to play... On their website it states that it costs an expansion amount to make a new character after your previous character (100 lives) is dead. That means you can only PvP a little bit and pay what $30-$40 to get a new character? Go play WoW BGs and count up how many times you've died in the last few weeks. I bet its over 100 if you PvP a lot. Try other PvP games and count.

Nice stuff in the game but would cost way too much to PvP in. NO THANKS, I would rather pay $15 per month and play Camelot Unchained: as much as I want to PvP without worrying how much money its gonna cost me to PvP in !!!

No thanks, I will play Camelot Unchained instead... At least I can control the cost per month.

Have fun paying your $35 per month subscription (could be even more if  you PvP a lot).

It sounds really interesting, I'll watch them closely to see how it shapes.

If they manage to make the game as described, it would be close to my ideal MMORPG. I'm always interested in games that try to create a virtual world, as opposed to bite-sized pieces of instanced "game fun", which seems to be a growing trend lately.

However, I suspect the audience for the CoE game design is not going to be very large. It's certainly not casual-friendly, mass market fare...

  • WizardryWizardry Member LegendaryPosts: 19,332

Yes i saw the idea behind dying in game would take years or time off your life but that also carries a possible bad point.

As the design is,we likely see players dying on purpose to  get that death buff.It all depends on how it is weighted.None the less we likely see dying as a faster way to get to that end game buff than grinding through that whole year, basically players will decipher what is the best option.

Example you may need 2 months of grinding before any mass on purpose dying would benefit your player, then players decide is another 10 months of grinding worth more to me than simply dying over and over to get to that next life buff.

As i said this is a very interesting game, will be nice to see how it actually works.

There is no right way to do permadeath, its an impossibility.  Unless permadeath means respawning with all the skills, worth, land, gear and weapons you had when you die, then that works, but that's not how it works.  So this wont work for most of us.

If the plan is to be a small niche game, then I'm sure it will do quite well.

I already have permadeath in my real life and when that day comes its going to suck, I don't need to experience it my games, as a matter of fact the primary reason I like MMO's is because my character IS immortal.  I don't need a constant reminder that life is futile, that every time I die in the game I am one step closer to PermaDeath.

    No thank you sir.

The only game on my wishlist has been Revival. Now Chronicles of Elyria is joining that list! I'm surprised that developers of both Revival and Chronicles of Elyria have very similar features and game concepts on their minds. It looks like a start of a new wave of MMORPGs.

technically is the ability to trasform the idea into a gaming experience what it make a game designer.  everyone has ideas.
