I purchased the $275 pack over a year ago. At that time I could walk around the hanger and inside my Constellation. Over a year later, I can walk around the hanger and inside my Consellation. NUFF SAID....millions and millions of dollars in kickstarter and Founder Packages and thats all Chris Roberts has provided. A year from now it will be the same.
People keep saying there is no hard evidence. This right here is the best hard evidence there is and shows in the last year CR has done nothing to move the so called game forward. Only thing he has crated is ships for cash that can't actually do a thing.
How much more evidence do you fanboy's need to see it is all smoke that is leading to a massive burn down!
How is that hard evidence? They have had Star Marine demos, they just had a demo at GC2015 like less than 2 months ago. Saying "I can only do what I could do a year ago" means very little. Essentially you're saying that since they haven't updated your hangar, they haven't done any work anywhere else. That's not even soft evidence, let alone hard evidence, it's a grand, sweeping assumption at best.
This has already been pointed out within both of the existing threads on this site. I guess everyone will want to start their own thread on this topic though since it will garner Agree clicks.
Sorry, but Escapist has been more than credible. Just because they are reporting what has been presented to them by vetted sources about something you're far too emotionally invested in (and fiscally too, I think) doesn't mean they are using unethical journalistic techniques.
Journalists do not have to out their sources this is a foundational aspect of journalism. Nobody would come forward in whistle blower situations for fear of their careers in this case or lives or the lives of their loved ones in more important situations.
What the escapist has reported, and what so many journalists have done by putting themselves on the line to guard their sources is commendable not reprehensible.
If this was a story about the Washington Post or the New York Times reporting on a government or corporate cover-up that resulted in loss of life and were using vetted, but protected sources you people would be lauding them for standing up for the people, but because it's about some pie in the sky dream game you people can't live without, you're attacking them. What you're doing is disgusting and reprehensible, NOT the Escapist!
Sure, but I'm sure that if that were the case, the Washington Post or New York Times would have gone to CIG themselves. Or to use your analogy, in the case above, would the newspaper NOT go to the company who is in question and ask them for their side. Ask for information on their policies and practices related to safety. Ask whether they can comment on the cases in question?
It could, very well, be the truth. The issue is that no additional research was done around the subject at hand. They didn't query any current employees. They didn't visit the office. They only gathered information supporting their own agenda and wrote a story that they knew would be clickbait. Nobody wants to hear that CIG is a great place to work and everything DS has brought up is completely false. That would mean it would die. Protecting your sources is something that is commendable in journalism, but what isn't is not getting off your ass to do the additional work to prove your case. Instead the journalist is leaning on unnamed sources. I'm really sorry, but that's bullshit. When 261 people are hanging in the balance, it should take more than "We heard this stuff from some people who we can't tell you about."

Very serious now public accusations made against the company. If not true he has to take them to court or a lot people will stop investing in them.
Harassment, misuse of funds, discrimination. I've already started looking at their past staff presentation videos to see how many minorities they have on staff. I'm thinking other people will start doing the same. Especially the lawyers.

You don't know shit about journalism. You will never see an article about what's going on inside any company were it not for the use of anonymous sources. Not ever. Demanding names attached to the employees is demanding they never work in their industry again. That's why people use them and that's why people accept their use. The only question is did you feel Lizzy F had any credibility before this.
Kind of stupid copying word for word the reviews that are on Glassdoor wouldn't you say? The reviews on Glassdoor are older than the article.
Here's some professional journalism for you, kind of counters your statements just a little.
What are your sources that this is what Lizzy F did? She says in her article the employees reached out, that she knows their names. This is nothing, unless you want to argue that people who will talk about their employers to a journalist won't also say the same things on Glass Door.
Well the evidence shows that she did, all we have is her word in her article saying these employees reached out.
Or maybe she's been taken for a ride?
Kind of a coincidence, weird and fucked up all at the same time.
Do you not think that if it were true, then all RSI/CiG's legal team would need to do is shoot of a letter to redact the article or be faced with a lawsuit, and this whole thing would be over and done with. That is the way the big boys do it when situations like this arise. Not only would that take care of this matter, but it would lend a whole mess of credibility to RSI/CiG that, at this point, it may still not deserve. That is the way the big boys do it when situations like this arise. Their lack of action in this regard speaks volume in and of itself.
And the Apollo moon landing was a hoax

Dude, if you're going to quote me the least you can do is make a bit of sense.

True, and judging by the length, it probably would have taken a full legal team a week to read through his response. I'm more interested to see the fallout. There can be many assumptions drawn from non-action. I'm assuming we'll see something happen over the next week. I mean isn't CRs partner a lawyer?
Clickbait trash journalism at it's finest. A good healthy dose of conflict of interest when you see all of the people that are buddies around the editor and writer of the article.
I agree with your assessment, but I don't think it makes Lizzy's article any less of a pile of garbage. I really hate the entire article and I'll add again that I'm not a Star Citizen backer nor do I intend to buy the game. I just hate this type of hit piece "reporting". There is no upside to rewarding gossip journalism. Of all the ways to try and expose impropriety, that is the worst way to do it.
You may not be a star citizen backer or have any attempt to buy the game, but you are certainly a SC/CiG/CR defender so no need for the constant disclaimer. Accept your position on this matter and own your stance, man..

Yes, the only difference being that I accept my positioned, stand by it, and make no excuses for it. Which is the point of my post.
Who says it is faux-journalism? Maybe what they posted is correct, maybe Roberts is ripping everyone off. We are not talking about some small amount of money here but over 90 million dollars. If this was an actual business he would have stockholders to account to, well he has donors to his project to answer to.
No. He wouldn't. CIG is a privately held company. The 'donors' are entitled only to what their pledges promised them.
Also, there's never been a more open development process for a major game than SC.
One of these source mention a CIG Montreal office that doesn't exist and was wrong about Turbulent, a company contracted to make Star Citizen website, not owning their own website tech. Turbulent was founded in 2002.
I only take one source that is wrong, to cast doubt on all the rest.

Yeah. Where did that Montreal office business come from?
Maybe from CIG themselves, you think?
"The new office in Santa Monica will be part of a distributed development approach for Star Citizen that spans from Montreal to Austin, Texas to the Los Angeles area."
As you say, all it takes is one lie to cast doubt on the rest.

Harassment, misuse of funds, discrimination. I've already started looking at their past staff presentation videos to see how many minorities they have on staff. I'm thinking other people will start doing the same. Especially the lawyers.
Yuppers!! The biggest question is what does inaction say? In so many cases inaction is an admission of guilt. Prior to these accusations I would have said, "Why would CiG or anyone open their books? It's not something any company would do." However, in the case of human rights accusations like this, I think it will be detrimental to remain silent. In this case I'd support people in asking to immediate response or action.
Yeah, BS. No identified sources this is just baseless accusations at this point. Until a credible witness, ie an actual named employee (or former employee) comes forward this is all BS. Also, I am not sure where the production is taking place, but just on the first page alone there is enough allegation to support a legal suit in either the U.S. or the U.K. So again I say BS to the entire article.
Now, if some legal action is announced agains CIG, or Roberts then I will eat crow but until then I am not buying it at all.
And before you say it, no I am not a fanboi, I am not even a supporter of the game, and yes I am a Derek Smart hater, but this is not related to that idiot, and until I see something from an official source, this is all just bunk. imo.
Ok, go take some journalism classes and then work at a newspaper for a few years. NO journalist gives up their sources, especially if the source is detailing information that could be harmful to someone else's reputation. PBS Frontline interviewed a dozen world renowned journalists on this very topic recently and almost to a man they agreed that source confidentiality is critical. In fact, Carl Bernstein who helped break the Watergate scandal claimed "I know of very little important reporting of the last 30 to 40 years that has been done without use of confidential sources..."
If you're a game developer and you wish to continue working in the industry, then you don't sit in front of a journalist and say "Oh, sure, use my real name in your article where I give you the inside dirt on the company that I just left". The reason for this is that they'll never work in the industry again. No company in their right mind would hire a developer that has shown a willingness to give inside information to a reporter, no matter how well that company is doing internally.
The real question here is "Is this journalist credible?". Has the journalist who put forth this article written anything before? Are they well known for good journalism and credibility? Are there any complaints against them from sources claiming they took their words out of context or contorted them?
I clicked on the author's name on the The Escapist article and discovered through the associated link that she has been a journalist with them since March of 2015 and has written dozens of articles. The only complaints I could find against this journalist were complaints in the comments section of the articles where she writes about SC. The fans of this game border on ISIS level zealotry in fact.
When I dug a little deeper into Lizzy Finnegan I found an interview with her from Reaxxion, and what stood out to me from this interview is that she is very good at weighing her thoughts, making reasonable and sound judgements, and not lashing out at anyone or anything she disagrees with.
After reading this interview and reading a selection of her past articles, I would be shocked to discover that she fabricated her sources in order to defame and destroy SC.
Yet it seems that is exactly what happened, so any more advice? lol I have seen sea lawyers, forum shrinks and now a junior journalism detective, ty internet. lol ANYWAY!
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
In his reply Letter, Chris attacks a journalist, calling her biased and a feminist. He goes into this rant about GamerGate. He also continues to rant about Derek Smart although he has nothing to do with this. This rant is very interesting indeed.
How can a company that just hit the jackpot and scammed almost $100 million off fans with pictures of spaceship have any disgruntled ex-employees unless that money is not going towards the employees and rather towards an extravagant lifestyle of Chris and his "wife"?
I have seen a few startups from the inside that made similar amounts in their 2nd or 3rd round of funding and they had a work environment that was so good that people actually did not want to go home because it was more fun to be at the office. I would have moved into some of these places in a heartbeat.
More than half of these seven ex-employees quit of their own accord!
Now, even if the allegations are not true, the fact that there are not ONE but SEVEN unhappy ex-employees in an almost $100 million funded startup is terrifying!
Escapist confirmed their sources: "Ideally, if you can get two people on the record saying the same thing, or at least three anonymous people saying the same thing, then the information is good to run. We got our information from nine independent sources talking about the working conditions at Cloud Imperium and their take on the status of Star Citizen, and all were properly vetted."
"It's pretty simple, really. If your only intention in posting about a particular game or topic is to be negative, then yes, you should probably move on. Voicing a negative opinion is fine, continually doing so on the same game is basically just trolling." - Michael Bitton Community Manager, MMORPG.com
"As an online discussion about Star Citizen grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Derek Smart approaches 1" - MrSnuffles's law
"I am jumping in here a bit without knowing exactly what you all or talking about." - SEANMCAD

I can handle if someone asks a lot of people, but if what's being said is valid, and there is no direct response from CiG, then it becomes a little more troubling, in my mind.
Next up. MrBurkes will probably claim that the managing editor is lying about Lizzy talking to each source personally.
Actually with a little makeup and wig, I and Derek (as all our associates from GG, Iluminati and Goons) could have pretended to be former and current employees of CIG lol
P.S.: Hmmmm... That ambiguous video recording made me interested. Maybe knowing a little of context about things of this project that I know, I could corroborate with that.
Article is interesting. But when it starts out with the following:
"One of the most popular biblical tales is that of David's victory over Goliath. Goliath was a nine-foot-tall soldier from Gath who frequently boasted that no Israeli soldier could defeat him - and none of them attempted. David, a teenage rebel, grabbed his sling and five stones, and went to challenge Goliath. David took the giant down with a single shot to the forehead, and defeated him without the assistance of a real weapon.
This tale teaches not only the strength of resolve, but another important lesson: no matter your size, a single stone can cause your downfall."
It does give it the feel of someone small looking to take down someone big. Sometimes articles start with something pretentious and thoughtful, but off all the things that one could have used for such purposes...if an article is siting multiple sources of complaints...then who here is David? Derek Smart or the Author?

Not really, personality conflicts, lay-offs, etc.. can have a huge impact on that outcome. Regardless of the reality of the situation.
As for the quote. I'd say when you're able to get seven - nine people, those seven-nine people came together for a reason... Which those reasons are their own, which IMO either they're legit and something is amiss, or they're pissed and seeking payback. This is the part journalists leave out, as a motive can ruin a story, namely it's impact and controversy stirred..
This is the problem with journalism, especially in it's modern form. It's all about creating a stir, regardless of the real truth. IN the end the truth can often be a boring non-issue thing. Bad for news circulation.

Voicing a negative opinion is fine, continually doing so on the same game is basically just trolling."

Next up. MrBurkes will probably claim that the managing editor is lying about Lizzy talking to each source personally.
I can handle if someone asks a lot of people, but if what's being said is valid, and there is no direct response from CiG, then it becomes a little more troubling, in my mind.

The sources were not taken from Glassdoor or Derek Smart.
P.S.: Hmmmm... That ambiguous video recording made me interested. Maybe knowing a little of context about things of this project that I know, I could corroborate with that.

As for the quote. I'd say when you're able to get seven - nine people, those seven-nine people came together for a reason... Which those reasons are their own, which IMO either they're legit and something is amiss, or they're pissed and seeking payback. This is the part journalists leave out, as a motive can ruin a story, namely it's impact and controversy stirred..
This is the problem with journalism, especially in it's modern form. It's all about creating a stir, regardless of the real truth. IN the end the truth can often be a boring non-issue thing. Bad for news circulation.
