I am amazed that this has a price tag, this is a F2P game all the way.

    How the game currently is:
    1: Choose a character
2: Get dropped into an arena
3: Try to kill as many people as you can
    4: Repeat

If they expect people to buy this game they have to include a single player campaign or something else to do offline.

    Please learn from Titanfall

Psh! Get real, Blizz. No self respecting gamer is going to pay $60 for this. I can't believe I'm saying this, but, it would actually sounds better F2p with a cash shop. I don't expect to be a freeloader if it's a good game, but $60 barrier of entry is not realistic for a multiplayer fast paced fps with no story.

Most competitive fps are b2p. I'm not sure why people are shocked at this.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

nothing is set in stone until we hear something tomorrow at blizzcon. Im pretty sure even if they release the game on consoles (which they might not) it will be f2p

With that logic, one could say "Most games are b2p, I don't understand why people..... " But this isn't about that. It isn't a black and white statement like "Blizzard is making a competitive FPS that should be in all ways compared to Battlefield games, including pricing model" -- This is not how the game has been marketed. It's been marketed (strongly) in their battle.net launcher, underneath their other 2 F2P games, which are both newer games btw. Also, as it's pseudo-esport with guns, a high priced barrier of entry is pretty lame, as esport games highly depend on having as much concurrent online players as possible for match making. An MMO can do "ok" if not a lot of people are online at any given time, since players have solo activities to fill their time. But what would happen if League of Legends had a barrier of entry like this? How long would queue times be if MILLIONS of players never got in to the game because of a price tag? Don't be obtuse. I respect that you have a perspective, but your comment seemed real snarky and more like the guy who stands outside in a snowstorm wearing shorts and a tank top saying "It's not cold bro. I dunno what you're talking about. I'm warm"

Why is anyone surprised? Launching as P2P/B2P is a great way to make money back quickly. They are also likely to launch with a cash shop. I would expect them to drop the purchase price at a later date, relaunching as F2P once the game is more flushed out.

To be honest, there should be a lot of doubt as to whether this game will have a long lifespan in todays market. There are a lot of games like this, and it will be hard to stand out. I expect them to use the stats that they get from the P2P/B2P launch, and determine if it is worth the money to convert to F2P, and keep the game alive.... or just shut it down.

How is this game going to work as F2P.  What can they sell that would actually make money and not make it P2W.  How many skins are people going to buy?  LoL and those types of games can make crappy heros a dime a dozen.

    No. All three platforms $60.

Man, its fun but I don't really feel like paying 60 bucks for it. When I bought the orange box, I got more bang for my buck even after tf2 when f2p on pc but still I mean whats stopping them from doing the same and just adding all the stuff that valve does.

A fair argument, but I do think you're underestimating the power of player attachment. This is why skin and fluff sells. For example, myself and the dozens of people I game with throughout the years never pay for XP boosts, or capped characters, or mounts, or anything that effects gameplay or provides an edge. That being said, I personally have spent hundreds of dollars on LoL just in skins alone. I don't even play the game anymore, but I respected the devs and liked the gameplay and loved my heroes enough to invest out of pure fluff-love and to support the game so more fluff would be made. I have no problem dropping serious cash if Overwatch was f2p and I ended up loving it. I would skin my toon like crazy, and they could always offer weapon skins, damage effects, voice additions, emotes, pets, music changes, etc f2p doesn't mean it has to be b2win at all. This game just won't feel right b2p unless there's a lot more to it than we've seen so far. I guess Blizzcon will be the test

I Demand free games dam it!!!!!!!      thats how most of you sound,

i dont mind playing $60 for a fun game even if there is no story mode
also i dont expect devs to spend tones of cash on making a game and then give it away for free.

$60 bucks for a arena tf clone, no tks.

It seems the people on the forums are getting their wish.  There is a massive outcry for this to be B2P so that you don't have to buy characters and the like individually.  If that were to happen, it would likely be that this game would cost $500 to unlock everything, similar to how Heroes of the Storm is.

Though with the hype involved with this game -- and the amazing gameplay that has been shown -- this game is likely to be a huge success in terms of making them money.  In truth, I dislike FPS as a whole, though I thoroughly enjoy watching people play this.
Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

Again, no one here is saying they shouldn't be able to make money on the game they funded development for. *knock knock* Whoever's in there, please open the door to hear our chatter before yelling at us to stfu from your livingroom. f2p doesn't mean to any of us that have thus far posted on this thread that we don't want to pay a dime to play a good game. We are just not Ok with the presentation of this and the deception. "Waaahhhh I want my game to be free!" is not at all accurate, at least to try and mock me with. I've spend thousands of dollars on f2p games over the years simply because I speak with my wallet if at all plausible. Buying subpar games with a box price is not going to happen anymore out of principle, not from being 'cheap'

They have WoW and Diablo 3 on their battle.net app and they are not free to play. Hell WoW is below HoTS and Hearthstone in the list, you know why? Because i have all of those games installed and the list is sorting them by name. Common sense dude, common sense...

From what I've seen the game looks like a lot of fun, and worth the 60$. I always thought it'd be free to play as well. I'd like to see Blizzard's development road map before I lay down the money though..

Who said this won't be perfect after all we know what is right
And the sounds of bodies clashing is enough to make them cry.
You know this cannot be perfect even when it is feeling right.
And the sound of bodies crashing echo through the night.

They didn't even have the decency to include a crappy thrown together single player experience to justify the price tag. :(

    Good points.

I guess where I personally am coming from is, if I pay $60 for a game I need it to have some longevity. I need to know that there is a good chance that I will be enjoying it months from now.

I agree that this is a great game and its made very well and I know for a fact it will make blizzard a ton of money, but I can't picture me playing this for very long. These little arena games are fun for a little while but get old very fast.

If they added a campaign mode to this game that you could run through with each character and it would reveal a story behind each character that would be amazing! I would pay $100 for that.

But why would I pay $60 for this when I can play TF2 and get the exact same feeling and fun? Literally the only difference is the maps and the way you blow up other people is slightly different.

What deception ?  are they marketing this as somthing other than what it is ?
the problem these days is everybody thinks its their god given right to try befor you buy.

You might have spent £10k on ftp games good for you!

Seems some folks are getting far too comfy with this "F2P" trend. God forbid you have to pony up this time. :)

This looks like an awesome game and I'm betting it will be well worth $60. Eat in and bring your lunch to work for a week. Voila!

Oh well.. Gigantic is more stylish anyway. Putting such a pricetag on a multiplayer-only game, especially when it faces direct and severe competition, is risky.. Lets see how that turns out. I bet it will also have a cash-shop. If it doesn't, if skins are free, then it may stand a chance.

Dude if we paid $60 for every "here comes the next great game" we'd be flat broke and still wouldn't have a good game to play.....Like almost all  in this genre just wait a short time and it will be available for free.
