you people didn't learn a single thing from the past eh? there is one thing i know for sure about blizz, if it's about new released infos, don't give a rat's ass. unless they come from blizz directly.
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
a box price will always be more appealing to me than a F2P cashshop driven madness, but paying $60 for a glorified moba or tf2 game... not in this life. If Overwatch was a big PvE game with a multiplayer component the sure. But it isnt.
Blizzard is getting into uncharted territories here(fps mp) thinking that their game will sell, even if it lacks features right now, just because it has the "Blizzard" tag attached to it. And you know what's the saddest part of the story is? People will actually bite. As people will bite with SW Battlefront, even tho that game also lacks a lot of features at launch, just because it's...you know.....Star Wars.
I Demand free games dam it!!!!!!! thats how most of you sound,
i dont mind playing $60 for a fun game even if there is no story mode also i dont expect devs to spend tones of cash on making a game and then give it away for free.
Better question: "is it worth $60".
If you had $60 would you buy a Destiny or a Witcher etc. - and have some change! - or Overwatch.

Agreed.
I've paid $60 for games before, and have no problem doing so when they seem worth it. An FPS arena multiplayer only game is not worth $60. The Last of Us was probably the last console game truly worth the full $60 price tag. A fully fleshed out, amazing story with memorable characters and fun gameplay in addition to an addictive and highly intense multiplayer. Those kind of games are worth $60. Multiplayer-only battle arenas, be they isometric or FPS, are not worth $60.
Why is anyone surprised? Launching as P2P/B2P is a great way to make money back quickly. They are also likely to launch with a cash shop. I would expect them to drop the purchase price at a later date, relaunching as F2P once the game is more flushed out.
To be honest, there should be a lot of doubt as to whether this game will have a long lifespan in todays market. There are a lot of games like this, and it will be hard to stand out. I expect them to use the stats that they get from the P2P/B2P launch, and determine if it is worth the money to convert to F2P, and keep the game alive.... or just shut it down.
No one is really surprised, the play 4 free gamers are butt soar that they can't play at launch. Studios that have a reputation for producing quality games will be able to sell the first round as P2P and/or B2P. Think of it as a year long early access for paying customers to this level of quality. Where early access is one week or less, they quality of the product is also less. When a game is just plain f2p, the quality tends to be the same (just plain shit).
At $60 the first round should be at a manageable size. Rather than what happened when Wildstar went F2P, and the flood gates opened. When I first bought Planetside 1, I think it cost $60 and was P2P with no story. I'm not saying that the Overwatch experience is the same as a MMOFPS.
I realize that Blizzard may not make the games or use the features that some people want. So these people feel hurt, and in turn they say that blizzard and their games suck(are bad). Sorry but those people are wrong( full of shit).
For those who want to play games for free and not spend any money. Realize that you are not entitled to P4F. Just as you are not entitled to F2W.
Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.

This is pretty much all I'm saying.
I have no problem buying good, complete, polished games for full box price.
But we're talking about a moba. I won't pay an entry fee for any moba or arena style pvp game.
Just no.

Why does it matter if it's a MOBA/arena style game? If it's a big budget quality title why do feel that you should be playing for free? Are you just accustomed to playing these types of games for free?

Again, no one here is saying they shouldn't be able to make money on the game they funded development for.
*knock knock* Whoever's in there, please open the door to hear our chatter before yelling at us to stfu from your livingroom.
f2p doesn't mean to any of us that have thus far posted on this thread that we don't want to pay a dime to play a good game. We are just not Ok with the presentation of this and the deception.
"Waaahhhh I want my game to be free!" is not at all accurate, at least to try and mock me with. I've spend thousands of dollars on f2p games over the years simply because I speak with my wallet if at all plausible.
Buying subpar games with a box price is not going to happen anymore out of principle, not from being 'cheap'
Sounds like a bunch of whining to me, sorry. What presentation and deception are you not ok with? Nobody is forcing you to buy the game, just wait for reviews or friends to figure out if the game is worth purchasing. I mean you can simply go on twitch and watch any stream to see the quality of the game.

1) Blizzard is now trying to step in to the FPS genre with an original IP (CoD doesn't count because it was there before Blizz merge)
2) With lack of experience in this genre, players are gambling on whether the game can stand up to competitors with a high price entry fee
3) Name another MOBA that costs $60 that is even partially successful
4) This isn't about me, my preferences, my personality, attacking my motives, our motives, etc....
--- simply put - is Overwatch WORTH $60 when you compare to other titles launching at that price point?

This really seems like a troll post you did here but not quite sure if you are serious or not.
Are you just accustomed to playing these types of games for free?
Ummmm yeah!
I assume you watched this game on twitch, if you did you would have noticed that every player playing this thought this was gonna be F2P. Not because they wanted it to be F2P or that they are cheap. It's because games like this are F2P.
As mentioned before in the thread, this game is just TF2 with better graphics and more characters.
The nearest comparable game to Overwatch, is probably Counterstrike:Global Offensive, and oddly enough, even after all this time its been out there, you still have to buy it, currently £12 on steam, which i think is about $18. So why is it such a shocking thing that a new game, you have to pay for, its not like Bungie are giving away Destiny for free either after all, or Titanfall for that matter. Its a new game, if you want to play it straight away, $60, if you wait a few months, it will probably be a more reasonable $40.. of course that depends on how popular it ends up being, and, oddly enough, i think even with a $60 price tag, it will be very popular, because as far as Mobas go, its a FPS, just like Counterstrike, and look how many people play that.
Worth is subjective. Overwatch may be worth it to some for 60 bucks. And others maybe not, neither is right or wrong.
Personally I think the game will do fine even if the 60 dollar tag is true. I think they will lose some players over this but for how long who knows.
So yeah keep making lists about why Overwatch isn't worth 60, but you would be better off spending your time brushing up the basic definitions of words.

Not true, the nearest comparable game to Overwatch is obviously TF2, a F2P game.

Remind me again how much it cost to buy TF2 when it first released!

Just in case can't be bothered to look, when TF2 was first released it cost $50.
It makes sense since it is basically console trash anyway. They said they didn't want to sell access to heroes, so the only real option was buy to play. I won't buy it because it looks like just the same boiler plate FPS arena shooter, but people that expected this to be F2P were kind of kidding themselves. I could always just play Dirty Bomb for free which is really the same thing as this game.
Guys, never at any point Blizzard stated they had a pricing model for the game. Never!!!!!
Also competitive fps games always where B2P so why are you guys angry at them? Even battle.net tool shows different type of games. There is a sub, two B2P and also a couple of F2P titles in there. Nothing gives any indication at any point that this games was going to be F2P or B2P or even a sub one.
No specific gaming section exist in the Battle.net tool to indicate that.

Sure it costs something back then, but TF2 was released in 2007. The game was something cool back then. Now it's not.
The Nintendo Entertainment System costs $200 when it was released. Would you pay that now?
Overwatch is a revamped version of a game made in 2007, same game mechanics, same rules, even some very similar characters.
Like I said before, Overwatch is TF2 with better graphics. NOT worth $60.
I'm sure if they want to make it in to a e-sport game, there be ways to make people pay up more then the box cost. They going need something to hook people so they can give up million dollar to the top % with out digging in to there pool from there other games.
Seems some folks are getting far too comfy with this "F2P" trend. God forbid you have to pony up this time.
This looks like an awesome game and I'm betting it will be well worth $60. Eat in and bring your lunch to work for a week. Voila!
Dude if we paid $60 for every "here comes the next great game" we'd be flat broke and still wouldn't have a good game to play.....Like almost all in this genre just wait a short time and it will be available for free.
So you actually expect to pay for one game then get the next for free or something?
A developer makes a game. They then sell it. Been this way for decades. One game has nothing to do with the next one. Try paying for a dinner then expect the next to be free because that dinner wasn't the best you ever ate. See how far you get in life.
Companies don't make games as a social service for broke, entitled free loaders. Vote with your wallet. Companies owe you nothing.
You expect Blizzard to sell new games for free? You must be happy waiting over 10 years to play Wow to level 20 for free.
