You know what though?  I would at least respect them if they had the guts to admit what they were doing before they were called on it.

They tried to have their cake and eat it, they told all the press they would NEVER EVER censor or alter the game to keep fans happy and then they did exactly that.  That is typical NCsoft.

Defending censoring the game is one thing, defending their lying is another.  I remember some other Ncsoft players who were blind defenders, those guys are currently NOT playing City of Heroes.
Why should they? you act like game development is a club and if they pinky swear then they better not break THAT promise.

It's like no company has ever changed the direction of a product ever.

Just don't buy it and move on.

    I hate this attitude.

Just not buying it doesn't fix the problems, it lets the problems become common practice.

This kind of thinking is why we have p2p mmo titles with cash shops, why the line of what is p2w and not is fuzzy, why we have day 1 dlc, why developers lie about what a game is (aliens colonial marines), why we have content cut from games to sell to us later, bare bones online only titles like star wars battlefront and a whole host of other stupid out of control problems with the gaming industry.

    "Well just don't buy it."

How about we complain about the things we don't like instead of blindly defending it?

If you don't care then that is fine, but don't tell people who do care about a company lying not to complain about it because I guarantee you they will eventually do something you do care about.

Are we so certain this "censorship" is the result of caving under the pressure of Western Feminism? I mean. if they decided to make these changes for the reasons the OP cited, It seems to me they would have replaced the original outfit with one that's less revealing, not more.

It looks like a game for virginal perverts even after the changes.  I'm not offended by the images, but I'd be embarrassed as hell if someone caught me playing that game.

In the end, it all comes down to $$$. If "censoring" a game brings in more cash, corporations will censor. There's no morals or feminism involved. Art needs to take a step back for the green bills.
I don't understand how censoring would bring more money? If it was other way around, sure.
    - Lower rating equals more potential customers
    - People like Scorp providing tons of free marketing for them
    - Gaming press reporting on people like the OP providing even more free press.
    - Being able to sell the old stuff as DLC to bring in more money. =P

But that just what i think. =P

This have been a good conversation

Just look at the forums here and some of the editors fiercely advocating women integrity. They wouldn't do it if it wouldn't sell more units. It is merely the result of a cost and profit analisys. IF you lose more players by keeping suggestive outfits / poses / ... than you keep, then as a business whose aim it is to make money, you will alter the game.

I do agree with you on the luing part though. Mind you, even though i understand their decision from a business point of view, i'd have rather played the game completely unaltered. A 1:1 translation would've been fine afaic. Even if that makes me a "virginal pervert".

i think most people prefer a sexy female character especially going by the majority of toons i see in different mmos. there will be sexy costumes in the cash shop and they'll sell like mad.

Brand manager of Blade and soul for NA and EU is a woman called Julianne Harty.

She posted last year on how to get more women into games and what they like.

"Most of the difficulties in engaging female attention come from the players themselves. Some players are just only about the combat; any thing else that resembles interaction or social elements, they just get bored and become disruptive. The DM then responds by giving them more combat instead.
These combat-focused players also see everything as a heavy competition - even against their other players. They have to have the most OP builds, have the most kills, etc. Some egregious players even take away player sheets and criticize their builds for not being good enough.

It's the heavy competition focus that alienates females. I personally don't mind competition itself - I'm addicted to League of Legends - but I can't relax and enjoy myself if I have to be on the defensive all the time.

I'm not saying this happens every game or with every group. But there is a reticence in me from joining unfamiliar groups because I don't want to compete with my teammates.

Sometimes I also don't want to battle with the stereotype that is assigned to "girls" that arises from a surprisingly large number of gamers (women included) "

She has also made some other stupid changes too, such as :

Changing the name of Kun to Jun because the females on the team were afraid it might sound like kun with a t on the end.

    Hilarious.

I think I'll take a previous suggestion and just pass on this train wreck of a game, the more I read about it the more I can see it's headed for the abyss.

Haha the guy in the video seems really bored...I couldn't help but imagine a small caption bubble over his head with the words boobies boobies boobies in it....

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

lol, that girl is pretty sexist, saying those things. Basically what she just said was that men are aggressive, and competitive, and women are passive and cooperative. So nice you have a sexist girl, running blade and soul, that should make a great game.

Looking at the pictures linked from the original post, I didn't even find it immediately obvious which was the "censored" version and which was the "uncensored" version, as the "censored" version shows a lot more skin.  "Censorship" doesn't seem like the right word there.

I tend to prefer armor that looks like it could plausibly be functional armor.  That doesn't necessarily mean plate mail; real soldiers don't wear that today, as it restricts your movement too much.  But going to war while nearly naked looks ridiculous.  If you want sentient characters wearing very little, keep them in towns and out of combat.

You see in western world it is perfectly alright to bombard online news viewers with bikini shots(if not nude) of underaged models but when a game shows some skin it is a "hell freezes over". Amazing, isn't it?

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

Just to play "Devil's Advocate" here, there are many who would say

"This is literally what's wrong in Asian culture."

I really wish they would leave the game how the developers and artist designed it.  Seems rude to alter it.

That sucks. I am seriously considering canceling my $125 preorder now. Screw that.
  • psiicpsiic Member RarePosts: 1,642
I just want to say I like the game, but I am trying to make a stand to get these game studios to learn a lesson. Hopefully enough people cancel the pre-order to get them to realize they screwed up.

Americans are the most sexually repressed cuture on the planet.  They're just changing the game to suit what they perceive as our preference.
