@Aradune Would it be possible not to have any form of currency and implement a barter system?

If a game doesnt offer a currency, the players will invent it by themselves - see stones of jordan in Diablo 2.

My apologies if this has been suggested already, but why not have a free trial server for lvls 1-10 that is capped at lvl 10?  If you want to keep playing and subscribe, you're given choices as to which server you want to move to.

This would deter lvl 1 free trial gold spammers by requiring them to buy the box + sub to spam/advertise in the actual game. Players that sub right out of the gate can start on the server of their choice at lvl 1 or start on the free trial server -- the choice is theirs.

There are some drawbacks to isolating the free trial players from the paying players, but I think the benefits outweigh the cons.  In addition, this solution would work well with the cloud-based server structure they're using.

That actually has been suggested, and may be the solution if they do not intend to put many restrictions on trial players on normal servers. There has never been a game where free trials weren't predominantly used for evil a few weeks after launch. That has to be curbed.

The idea seem to be to allow players to experience the game and world on a real server with all the players going about their business. Seeing a rather empty city on a trial server, with only a smattering of trial players, won't give people the real feel for how the game actually is.

Like I said though, free trials will quickly become a huge problem if trial players arent heavily restricted. I made a pretty good list of the restrictions I would place on a trial account. They would still be able to see the world and players as they really are, but prevent them from using the accounts to spam or harass the paying playerbase.

People only want things hard when everyone else has to have it the hard way too... but as soon as it's merely an option, everyone inevitably chooses the easy mode because they don't want to be "left behind".

The fact that Ferris Bueller can skip school and get away with it doesn't change the fact that his sister chooses not to skip school.  Bitching about the fact that he gets away with something that you prefer not to do is silly.

Nope, just don't want to play with you folks at all. There, problem solved! So stay in games like WoW and all the other really cool PTW games that praise and reward you for being able to process oxygen and people like you and I never have to worry about this!
