It wouldn't kill them to employ basic grammar. I get it. You're from Sweden or something. Please... even on the initial load screens for the game the grammar is terrible. Also the whole Server Maintenance issue. Fix it yourselves. It's not there for us to have to deal with. You get it. Get it? Other than that this game could be grand.

This game is going to be fantastic. It's the only game I bought into early that I don't regret at all. If I had paid $150 to get into alpha, I still wouldn't have regretted it just because I know it's going to be good, because it's already good. I'm excited to see this one progress.

    Great Trailer :)

Combat is only melee and bow & arrow?
  • HalfgrimmHalfgrimm Member UncommonPosts: 76
Yeah. This is low fantasy and they haven't even added the fantasy elements as yet. They also don't have all the races available yet and their character creation is very, very, basic.

COmbat system looks so CLunky , might aswell say even worse than ESO's when it first came out

Comparing smoothness of combat of an indie game in pre-alpha state that likely wont release until 2017 vs the full release of a game from an established IP made by a well known AAA company with a large staff and many millions of dollars put into it....

    Logic at it's finest.

Anyway, combat is something they're steadily working on but recent focus has been on implementing some desired / promised features as well as improving other core mechanics of the game including complete overhauls of some systems. Over the several months, especially as the game advances in alpha and beta, we should see a lot more focus being put back into polishing up combat and further improving performance. Right now it's more of a "Let's get some new stuff added to the game for people to play, test, and give feedback for later patches" state.

How is this game even top 3 on the polls. I mean props for what this small team has done with the game, but I don't think its a top 3 hyped game.
  • AlomarAlomar Member RarePosts: 1,299
I remember when this game, like many we follow, was just an interesting idea. It is one of the few that have lived up to it's potential and has the possibility of becoming a really great game. It's got everything I want in a game already, except an improved combat system, given even more time I'm sure they'll continue to improve every aspect.

I have this game. It feels very unpolished and low budget at this moment, I can't play it. Maybe the coming patch will help.

How can anyone defend that combat? My god, looks like a bunch of 90 year old men giving each other a go with 100lb swords. Skill based? With combat that clunky it will be RNG if the game registers a hit or miss.

Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

Does it have taverns that you can build? Can you eat and drink food? What about sleeping? (helps with immersion). Also, how's sailing coming along? What about horse drawn carriages, etc.

Money or size of team has absolutely nothing to do with it.

There are AAA MMOs with good combat and AAA MMOs with bad combat. There are indie MMOs with far better combat than this.

Money can hire talented people but it cant buy talent.

Don't get how you can say money and size of team have noting to do with it, then also say money can hire talented people.

Zenimax had the money to hire people talented (and experienced) enough to make some amazing combat many times over. I mean FFS they HAD veterans who had worked on quite a few games before that, including people like Matt Fior from Mythic. Yet the final product, even after several patches, was just an "OK" system, not the worst but far from the best.

Now people are complaining about not having something even better than that already  ~2 years before release of a game being made by a much smaller and less experienced team with a fraction of the funding for GV that ESO had.

    That's ridiculous IMO.

Comparing it to other games at a similar stage in development would be one thing. But comparing it in development stages to the final product of a game like ESO is a huge stretch.

I look forward to this game as a finished product.  Has a lot of promise and so far lots of good hype.

Zenimax spent a ton of money on ESO, a lot of which probably went to hiring former Mythic developers.

Didnt stop ESO from being terrible at launch though. All that money and they still put out a bad game.

They have worked hard to fix problems since launch and it is a much better game now but that still doesnt change that all of the money spent and massive team size didnt mean anything.

Arguing that Gloria Victis is naturally handicapped because they dont have tens of millions or hundreds of developers is a cop out excuse and a poor one at that.

You seem to have this funny little habit of only picking out the words you want to read and completely overlooking the main theme. YOU are the one focusing on the money and team size being a handicap.

The main problem is comparing a PRE-ALPHA game (do you understand what that even is?) vs a FULLY RELEASED game.

The money and team size is just an additional factor, which may not amount to much AFTER the game is released, but it is nowhere near ready for release yet. During development stages progress is slower, and they have to be focused on a limited number of things at a time to get them done because of the team size and available funds. They don't have a large team dedicated to individual aspects of the game, such as combat. So of course you're not going to see highly polished incredible combat this far from release. It's going to take time, and small improvements with each patch, to fine tune things and make it better along with all the other aspects of the game.

Do you even know what ESO combat looked like ~2 years before release? At that point in the game they were still planning on making it a tab-target WoW-clone style of combat and were just starting to work on (after a LOT of complaining from people who wanted a TES game, not WoW) switching over to the current combat system. In some of the earliest previews of the game, including one done here on mmorpg.com 1 1/2 years before release, they didnt even have ranged weapons as an option because they hadnt implemented the new targeting / combat system enough to allow them yet.

Terrible, it doesn't even have proper collision detection. The characters are running through each other.
