Seriously if you are a true fan and believe in the project please share how much you have spent and what you believe will happen.
Share your concerns and hype. I see a lot of people defending this game so I imagine they will have no problem sharing how much they have invested loud and proud.
I am just about to spend money on this game and then I see what the skeptics have posted and I stop myself so please tell me how much you have spent and why I should as well.

The PU as pitched, dreamed, is going to be vaporware. Something will come, but nothing to justify more than 10 dollars of investiment.
If you buy now, you are been a fool in my opinion. Good luck.

I'm impressed.
Anyways:
I put $60 into the kickstarter. It's the only game I've done this sort of thing for. I want to see what crowd funding is capable of achieving and SC seemed to be something big that was also achievable.
The current business model is a turnoff for me, I just don't like it or anything similar for any kind of product.
Just hoping for a good entertaining game. I love all the little details and I love for things in game to be as realistic as possible even if I have to run 1 km through a space station to get to my ship. I love realism.

Can't say I'm at all interested in the PTU, I have Elite for that and I'm only interested in Squadron 42 for the single player story driven game, although 30% of it being FPS has put a bit of a downer on things.
Spent $45 and I can wait another couple of years for the final product.
Design is just too good and it takes years to make a decent game even if you have $ 100 Million to invest.
Having said that I don't believe they can deliver what they promised, but I hope they can do enough to make it a nice experience.
I support games that major publishers don't want to do anymore, it is a risk but I am willing to take it.
But I have to say I am worried for people who spent $ 1000 for a ship, I believe that kind of level of support is stretching it a bit too far.
Lets say for arguments sake you make 50k a year. 45 dollars is only 0.09% of your income.
Now lets say you make 100k a year and drop 1000 dollars, that is only 1%. so the level of investment to both party's isnt truly crazy in difference. its more yes, in terms of the percent and the amount but not like its 10% of your gross.
I am a Centurion Subscriber (which means I voluntarily pay 12 $ per month) to help make all those extra video blogs and the "Jump Point" magazine possible. For me and all the other backers.
I hope that this game will open up new ways in game development (large project crowdfunding) and introduce new high end technology and storytelling in a game industry that IMHO is currently stagnating due to voluntary self-censure to ensure multi-platform compatibility and maximum milking of existing IP's.
I expected (and still expect) this development to take at least 5 years (with the start in Nov 2012 at the end of the Kickstarter campaign) due to the technological high-risk nature of this project.
If you have second thoughts, i recommend you stay with the basic package (Aurora, was 30 $ a few days ago) or wait until the solo game Squadron 42 is finished. Even with the Aurora, you can participate in the playtesting, earn some in game currency called REC and use it to test out any other ship chassis that is available at that time.
Have fun
I put money down once they started taking pre-orders... none of this BS donations/pledge kickstarter crap. Pre-order shows they intend to release a product and if they don't... well there is refund policies for digital pre-ordered products and shouldn't be to hard to get the money back if they don't deliver the single player game and i see the online stuff is a bonus extra tacked onto my pre-order.
Im no more invested in this than any other pre-order single player title (hell less than some of the recent upwards of £50 pre-orders) but this has a lot of future perks should they be the successful in releasing what they intent too.

I loved the idea of a sandbox space sim - EVE was always appealing to be, but never really managed to get into it. Star Citizen seems to be close, but more open to casual players. I also like the attention to graphics.
I'm hoping they keep adding features on a regular basis from now on. Last year was a little lackluster in terms of visible progress. I'd love to see item/currency presistence too. I like to earn stuff.

The current pre-launch model could be nullified if they have in-game marketplaces where you can buy ships using in-game currency. At that point, even if they were still selling ships for cash, there would be an open market for it as well. I'd have to assume this would be the case.
