If this year of MMO releases can be categorized by any one thing, it might be that the existing MMOs in the landscape had great years, while we wait for the next big thing to come along. Meanwhile, the single player RPG had an absolutely stellar time, with some truly amazing games and expansions released throughout the calendar year. We’ve polled our staff, and these are the games we loved the most in 2015, and the ones we’re looking forward to the most in 2016.

Can't say I disagree with your choices. All of them are pretty solid, though I expect much nerd rage from fans of other games and people who hate the ones you gave awards to.

I am looking forward to Camelot Unchained.  I hope the Citystate devs will understand that there are alot of players looking for a game that enourages community and cooperation.  Realm vs Realm should be the goal instead of hardcore pvp matches.

GW2 and ESO get my votes for Best MMOs of 2015 as well. I recently went back to ESO and I'm very impressed with the work that's been done over the past year since I last played.

but then again I don't know what half of the games on this list have to do wth best of 2015.

Why?  Because they're not Trion games?

Rift provided more "mmo" content in 2015 than swtor, hell swtor have not gotten any mmo contnet for a year now yet it is runner up in best mmo category? Does it not feel strange to you?

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

Rift did do good with the new class and the increased content.

Hand of Fate is a really great game. For anyone interested it's a deck building rogue-like game in which you perform the combat scenarios in an action combat style (yes WASD).

I disagree with ESO being the best mmo of 2015 as well as the quote "ESO has done nothing but improve since launch", the rest are spot on except CU>Crowfall. Your basis was the console launch, which was a year late btw that required PC devs taking 3-5 months off even basic patching on the PC just to finish in time. The change to b2p was/is the best thing they've done since launch. Yet, only one of the two dlc's mentioned even made an impact in the game, all Imperial City's have been empty and deserted since less than 2 months after it came out. Also not even a remotely true statement on the pvp front, pvp is easily 1/20 if not less what it was at launch in terms of population, lag, balance, content removed, no new content, etc.

    I agree with the list except the Most Anticipated MOBA for 2016 – Paladins / Runner Up – Overwatch. First of all Overwatch is NOT A MOBA. Seriously why are you guys insist on this. Even Blizzard said that Overwatch is a classic arena shooter with a new hero feature. And the second, Paladins is a very very bad game in my opinion. I played it on the beta and jusy meh... I would pick the Paragon which is the new moba announced for 2016 from Epic Games. It looks amazing. Here is the gameplay trailer;

About to dive into virtual for few months, but i am unsure of which game should i pick?

    Should be free to play.

I got repulsed from Wildstar since its F2P way is similar to SW:ToR aka, unplayable, GW2 and few other games have more balanced gameplay, but might be too borring for me, so i dont know.

I liked both Tera&Archeage so Themepark&Sandbox are cool, as long as they have advanced depth, gameplay, graphics and challenge related to them.

So, which one is the most i can get from F2P MMORPG atm?

wildstar could had come up first had they not 'lost a year' in changing direction. but Elder scrolls feels right to me. i didnt see most anticipated rpg- SC2 -Void. or 'sleeper hit' of the year- warhammer end times-vermintide!

Great list and I agree across the board particularly with Elder Scrolls Online.

I went back as my main game last December. Since that time they launched the Justice System, converted to a great Buy to Play model with one of the best example of an in game store (which sells consumables less powerful than player crafted and only cosmetic/convenance items), released on both main consoles, two DLC's, and countless quality of life improvements such as a reworked cross faction group finder and native controller support for the PC.

This year they have worked on and are about to release Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, Player Housing, Battlegrounds/Arenas, Dueling, scrolling combat text, name plates, great revisions for Cyrodiil PvP and siege weapons, removal of Veteran Ranks, and so much more.

Zenimax has done a great job in engaging the community for input and much of what they are working on is directly from the requests of their players. Well deserved.

Overwatch is not a beta. WTF is wrong with you idiots?

Paladins...also not a MOBA. Look at SMITE, look at LoL, look at DOTA2....does it look or play anything like that? No.

Overwatch is a teambased shooter with heroes. Paladins is more like a Battle Arena game with "escorting".

Battleborn is more of a MOBA than both of those.

Nope because I only play 1 game out of all of those listed - ESO.

Ah the Trion hate never gets old haha
Trion did it to themselves, from a wow copy dev team went to a perfect world scam publisher team. I just played Devilian last night and 1st thing noticed was megaphone for chat and tiny iventory that forces players to use their $ to get more space. Trion became the NA version of eastern scam gold selling companies.

If you liked TERA then you really should give GW2 a shot, it is closer to it but the quests are differently made and there is more massive content. ESO is also worth a try.

Good list overall and agreed with ESO at best MMO of 2015. Glad to see your staff finally gave it a try considering it didn't even make your top 35 list of 'Greatest MMOs of All Time' from October.

So ESO is the best MMORPG for the 2nd year straight, yet it didn't make the top 35 list of "Greatest MMOs of All Time"? I really think you need to fix that soon.

There is nothing else to say really, it was well deserved.
With Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood DLC coming next year, and who knows what else is ZOS planning for Q3 and Q4, I have no doubt ESO is going to win it next year too.

Keep up the good work ZOS.
