Title says it all. I have notices a lot of disgruntled people on forums. I'd like to know exactly how many are mad at all mmorpg's or just certain ones.
Are you onto something or just on something?

In truth, I can't answer any of the poll's questions because though mmo's never lived up to my expectations, I don't necessarily things are worse or better than years ago. Just different.

MMOs are great. They are much broader now .. meaning more selections of different type of online games. Choices are GOOD.

And having no choices at all in your favorite sub genre is definitely a very bad thing.

Mmorpgs are not exactly being made anymore by AAA western studios.

If the poll said MMOS it would be more relevant.

    Is it stands... I'd ask

What mmorpgs? The current ones that are out are all several years old or even older.

I agree with DMKano's comments as poll is written.

If OP changed it to "MMO" instead of "MMORPG" then I would go with Neutral... some good, some bad, new QoL features balance out cash shop nonsense for example. Being charitable tonight, most of time I would say Bad overall.

And that answer is for Western MMOs only... I do not generally play Eastern MMOs at all and not fair for me to vote on them.... not that they're bad, just not my style.

mmo is too broad that's why I said mmorpg.  Even though people are voting for mmo's instead it seems.

Considering there are thousands of developers you would think a few could turn out something Triple A and not just aim for Moba's and card games and any other low budget venue.

I do not see anything Triple A coming our way but perhaps something will instead of disappoint perhaps surprise us.I am of course talking the main reason this site started mmorpg's .I know the division will excite a lot of people but from the mmorpg front perhaps COE ,i expect mediocrity from Pantheon and less than that from CU.However if they want to surprise me and knock my socks off,go for it,i am ready to spend some money.

Only if you play one sub-genre of games.

24 days is my countdown before I complete an epic feat. 5 years straight since the last time anyone could open my wallet...for a new game.

    That says pretty much everything.

Last time I was expecting anything of an MMO and got disappointed was for SWToR. To be fair, I didn't really do much research about the game during development process. But for some reason I thought SWG with new graphics + Bioware = yay!

Yea this is odd looking at the votes it seems there's a lot of people who just don't like mmorpg's.  The current meta is blamed but somehow I don't think that's the problem here.  There is so much variety in the market and compared to 10 years ago you had probably 4 choices and now you have over 20.  No wonder there was so many "other" votes when best mmorpg poll was placed.

MMORPGs are more rewarding, easier to get into, better designed, have a better skill ceiling, yield more fun for your buck.

MMORPGs used to be that there was no quest or any objective besides grinding to the next level. If you released a MMORPG from ten years ago today it would be a joke. Peoples expectations of what a MMORPG could be "a living breathing changing world where anything can happen and nothing stays the same" has not come closer than to what is possible today.

It's a shame when a game like Archeage. A game that is fundamentally good is ruined by a bad monetization  system. There was no need for that. But besides that, if you took that game and released it 10 years ago, it would have blown the socks of everyone.

You have to go back to UO and MUDs to see what was lost. In those old games you could do anything, but the introduction of 3D brought a lot of limitations on what could be done, and eventually we ended up with themepark and instanced content. Ideas that go completely against the concept of a MMORPG.

But be you for themepark or sandbox, the slate of MMORPGs today are superior to those in the past. What is not superior though is the lack of community building. "a game is only as good as the people you're playing with". Games feel pointless when you dont feel meaning in it, but playing with friends can give great meaning. Its why people play bad games for years. because their friends make it fun. community, community, community.

I wonder if it is how people feel while playing.  The games have so many players its hard for someone to feel special or powerful.  Human desire is to be admired and its hard to get anything when competing against 10k others who also want to be admired.  Then you see who will truly shine and who is just another average player.  A single player RPG makes you feel like everything evolves around your character.  It makes you feel like the strongest, fastest, smartest person in the universe and you always get the girl in the process.  Meanwhile mmorpg's almost completely take that away because although you killed the Emperor in SWTOR,  so did 10k other players.

There are tricks to make players feel more special ... instances and phasing are two of those.

In fact, playing in an instance is no different than playing a single player campaign that allows for online co-op.

Things seem pretty much the same now as ten or so years ago.  Same problems with bots, scams, bugs, nerfs, and so on.  The only things that's changed is the shear amount of MMO's I have access to now a days.  Yes, MMO's could be better but I realize I'll probably never find the perfect MMO as it's always been a series of compromises, and tbh, I don't think I would want to play the perfect MMO as I would probably never want to stop playing it, and there goes all my time.  So I'm happy with what's out now and even have a waiting list of ones I'd like to play but just don't have the time.

Lately I've been playing Blade & Soul and it's a surprising nice game, great character customization, at least the main story is voiced, graphics aren't great but not bad either, and the combat is pretty good. Easily customization of UI and more.  Flagged PvP (put on a red or blue outfit flags you) so not forced.

So it's a bit like marriage.  The ones that last are the ones in which both people are willing to make compromises and not insist on the other partner meeting all of your personal preferences, and realizing that life is change and that everyone needs room to grow.

Not enough time in the day now.

Why ask a question you already know the answer to?

The poll isn't going to reveal anything when it's front loaded.

A good poll to have on a site like this would be:

"Which car battery do you prefer most when buying a new battery?"

Why?  Because NO ONE even discusses that here ad nausea like the question you just asked.  You'd actually find out something NEW with your poll.

Well thanks for the negativity and throwing up all over the thread.  The poll is accomplishing exactly what I wanted it to.  If you want to know what car battery players prefer then I already did that.

This poll is trying to figure out why 33% of the votes went to "other".  I thought it might be the fact that people are unhappy with the current state.  And well the votes on this poll are showing that players indeed are.

Well ... none of these choices.

I dont expect anything from current MMOs. They are a stinking pile of crap, not worth anyones time. Unsurprisingly they easily manage to live up to such low expectations.

Exceptions are few. EVE for example seems to be alright, all things considered, even if its no game for me.

For a game for myself I have some hopes for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen, but it seems to me that that game will be far too much EQ and not enough Vanguard. A step backward in gameplay, instead of further forward.

Frankly I dont want a slow combat system with few abilities and downtime in 2015. Doing absurdities like sitting down during combat if you're healer and stuff like that. And thats exactly what I had in Lineage 2 (minus the ability limit) and managed to leave behind with Vanguard, and dont ever want to tolerate again.

Actually I think I might even enjoy L2 classic more than Pantheon. Since yes idiotic stuff like the sitting down part would be there, but at least no artificial limit to number of abilities. And some L2 classes, I actually miss them. Most definitely the Tyrant. No other monk class was ever like the L2 Tyrant. They just dont have the variance and special abilities of that class. It was huge fun.

There are a good number of MMORPGs available, but there's not enough variety.  All offer combat and crafting, and nothing much beyond that.  The MMORPGs tend to be based in the middle ages, with a precious varieties of themes -- mostly European fantasy, and Asian fantasy (made mostly by Asian countries).  Where's the fantasy based on Nordic culture, or Persian-Middle Eastern fantasy, or even New World mythologies?  And the selection for SF games is pretty slim, basically STO. ST:TOR and EVE -- none of these really gives me what I'm looking for.  The less I think about the sad state of the superhero sub-genre, the better my blood pressure will be.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Well, since I've never expected perpetual everlasting entertainment for a one-time purchase price... I'd say my expectations are atypical for this site.

So yep, got my money's worth from almost all of the purchases. Hellgate: London didn't deliver, and a couple of other titles were minor disappointments. But no tears or nerdrage.
