And I took part of ArcheAge's launch. Anyways, here's what's going on: NCsoft charging for premium for faster queues, accept kiss those speedy queues bye-bye! You'll still be waiting for a long-ass time because after releasing Blade & Soul in glob knows how many regions, NCsoft apparently still doesn't have a freaking clue what they're doing and launched with way too few of servers.
Rampant gold spammers as soon as I finally got in with my useless premium queue, showing me that there are zero active GMs in the game, and showing me that NCsoft is a-freaking-okay with botters having priority queue over actual real players. Thank you for the middle finger NCsoft! I appreciate it!
Not only that but now quite a few people are experiencing problems with getting NCoin (the currency NCsoft uses in their games that costs actual money), with some having been waiting over 30 hours with zero updates to their sent in tickets. In my eyes this is just shameful. NCsoft has officially gone to my "list of worst game companies."
I really hope that MMORPG.com reports on this because launches like these need to be noticed. They need to stop. Especially ones with games that have already been released multiple times.
As bad as this launch is, it only ranks as a "meh, could be worse" in the grand scheme of MMO launches, and that says terrible things about this genre.
If you feel that this is the worst launch in MMO history you haven't been part of MMO history. I think you spent to much time posting here throughout the years and not enough time playing MMOs. This launch is smooth as butter compared to some of the launches many of us have been a part of. This is why people are laughing at you.
It's good PR to have server queues and "adding new server" stories.
They add less servers than they know are needed, they set the limits on each server lower than normal and they artificially increase server queue numbers.
This is all PR 101 for an mmo, should of seen this enough by now to know how it works.

And that's the sad part because you've got players buying that premium crap to get in front of the queue and effectively legitimizing NCSoft's new business 'idea' which we will undoubtedly start seeing in future MMO. That's exactly what happened with these overpriced Founder Packs which are now the new norm in the MMO industry to give people the "privilege" to test the game for them. It's absurd.

Let me ask you this.
Let say you are in charge of Blade and Soul, what would you do in order to get free and good publicity?
Now think about what I said, all these things are easy to do for them to do. Tell me why they would not do it.

I've seen you post enough that I know when you make up your mind about something there's absolutely no changing it, so I'm not going to bother indulging your theory.
Other than the horrible que for non-premiums the launch is one of the smoothest, you must be new to mmos. Wow at launch was down for 3 days at a time for a whole month. Conan and FF14 was unplayable. SWTOR was plagued with crashes and server lag, among the few I remember to be nasty launches and those were sub games (meaning your $$ down the drain for downtime). For B&S I suggest a month of premium less than few min and your in, pretty cheap cost for a good game.
I should have expected this thread. Just about every single MMORPG ever launched and covered by this site has "officially been the worst launch ever seen"
He'd have a point if it was a subscription based game, paid money for it, and was still sitting on a queue, but that isn't the case. His problem could be easily remedied by buying a student pack for $5, yet he refuses to do so. His lack of desire to buy a $5 student pack for priority access hardly constitutes a "worst launch" title. And the bots, there is a block feature in chat for that, and there are multiple channels available to switch to if he is being bothered by bots in any particular channel. The entitlement by some people is really strong. Just fork over the $5 already and stop complaining.
I agree . Then again, expect to be met with lots of people finding ridiculous excuses to justify this.
Excuse 01: "it's free, therefore you get what you pay for"
this argument of course ignores the fact that F2P often make more money than P2P MMO. It also ignores that F2P create a class system where free players are the second class citizen, not only inside the game, but outside the game too.
Excuse 02: "pay money if you want to skip the queue"
this argument ignores that people who did pay money for Blade & Soul, had a queue too
I guess the launches of pretty much every MMO since I started with Anarchy Online's launch have left me with a relatively high tolerance for launch problems.
I sat in 8 hour long queues for Aion's launch. Rift was 2-4 hurs as well. B&S has been pretty easy going so far.
Having said that - i really think the obvious locking out of free players in an attempt to get them to go premium is unacceptable. This game has channels for every zone and yet players can't log in? Sure. Whatever you say.
Fuck you man! You know how hard it was to play SWG on launch day with 56k. Theed was basically just a slideshow, and I had to use DOS to purchase my sub cause of SOE's servers.

This is by far NOT a bad launch in comparison to past games. I've yet to have a queue longer than 10 minutes.

Queue's have been, by far, the biggest issue, until you cave and buy a Premium Membership.
Shit happens, stop overreacting.
