Even the biggest white nights have to recognize mismanagement and greed on this project.

As a project manager i see room for improvement w.r.t. project management in Star Citizen. Personally I think it has significantly improved since Erin Roberts has been named global head of production. IMHO Chris Roberts was prone to micromanagment instead of focusing on the overall concept and development, which is his forte.
It also obviously took quite a bit of time to physically set up the studios themselves from scratch. This may have caused a delay short term, but may have long term benefits (tax benefits, human resources etc.).
For anyone who knows "New Technology Risk Management" ... sometimes it takes longer to develop something which does not exist yet. Which is what Star Citizen is attempting. Yes, this can result in milestones slipping to a later date. So w.r.t the timeframe, i personally am not worried and consider that part not a sign of mismanagement. Such things happen in TRM.
Personally i see no sign of greed. Especially not personal greed (only rumours and libel). Offering big pledge packages is IMHO not a sign of greed and several game companies i know do it. No one is forced to buy anything more than a basic pledge. If people voluntarily throw money at me , i would not duck either. That is what CIG did and i understand it. I would have done the same.

There are some on these boards who would love to see CiG release a buggy, unpolished SQ 42 so they can have a field day shredding CR to pieces.
This is not going to happen, the game will release when it is ready and that's it. Space combat sim fans are waiting for such a game since Freespace 2 almost 17 years back. We can wait a bit more in order to have the best product possible.
Estimates have very little substance when it comes to complex projects like SQ42 and SC. The fact alone that an entire office had to be established and staffed in order to overhaul the engine is telling. For the ones who wish to hear that is.
I will admit that speaking about estimated time frames was a mistake. They should do this the Blizzard, Bethesda "sod off, it will be released when ready" way.
However, still haters would hate and write libels like they do now

Hi @Shodanas. I was wondering. Did you understand my OP now or are you still unclear as to what is a quote and what is my opinion?

I genuinely think that Chris Roberts thought the game would be released in November 2014. I do think he thought that Star Marine would be ready for Alpha all through 2015.
It is just people that don't understand game development that complain.
GTA V was delayed by about 1 month twice. The Witcher 3 was delayed twice for about 2 months each time.
Star Citizen is only delayed for 1 year now. Star Marine was only continuously delayed for 12 months then never got released.

This game has been in development since 2011 and now they decide to come up with a plan huh? I think it is funny that they consider coming up with a plan as some evidence of progress. You really have to be delusional to think this is going to end in anything but a very expensive mess. The latest scam of splitting the game into pieces kind of tells you how confused and disjointed this project is at this point. This is going to end up being a great example of what not to do as far as game development goes.
"The game was officially announced on 4 February 2013 via Game Informer, with a 2014 release on PC and "all high-end platforms available".[18] The latter was then clarified to mean the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One on 21 February 2013[19] and 10 June 2013[20] respectively."
"On 11 March 2014, it was announced that the game's release date was delayed from Autumn 2014 to February 2015."
"On 8 December 2014, the developer officially informed about postponing the release date to 19 May 2015."
;-)
Witcher 3 has been one of the best games of the last decade IMHO. Well worth the wait. Hopefully so will be Star Citizen.

Pretty normal for game development...or is it?
*yawn* The games you're quoting are, essentially, games that were delayed at the end of their development cycle. What we're talking about is a game that has been delayed throughout it's development cycle.
Star Citizen has been hurt more by loose lips than anything else and you know what they say, "Loose lips sink ships". This is simply another illustration of how some people cannot accept reality.
Do you HONESTLY believe in what you wrote above? We're talking about a game that was under development for 5 years (with 240 people from the beginning), wasn't announced until it had been in development for 3 years and, STILL, delayed at the end of their timeline when they should have been going golden. TWICE! That's not an illustration of incompetence, but an illustration of how many unknowns developers are working with. On top of that, these are developers who have worked on 2 previous games, so it's not like they are trying to deal with things like engine issues or figuring out serious technology knowledge gaps.
Same goes for GTA V.
I don't give SC a pass on being open, and I'd prefer development be more open, but I think they've definitely learned a lesson. I think there is a combination of a couple things going on here, part of which is an ignorance of the public, part of which is poor project management. If SC had done it right, they would have shut up, focused on releasing something very simple and then selling people any additional modules they create, made people sign NDAs for Alpha, not allowed streaming, and not announced any sort of release date until they were in final QA testing, so 6-8 months out from release.

Nope.
I do believe that with the established trend of delays, over-promising and under-delivering this game has probably the worst development and planning in the history of video games and will be not even close what people expect it to be.
It's however much easier to think that people have no idea about game development. Blissful ignorance seems to be a required trait to becoming a Star Citizen.

How many games have you taken part in developing? Or even how many software projects have you participated in?
I can tell you unequivocally that people have no idea about game development. That's not to say that SC is being run well. However, it's also extremely open, possibly more so than any other game in history.
As I said before, I can't excuse SC, but if you were to measure this up against something like W3, the amount of work (hours) invested at this point would probably be somewhere in the amount of 1-1.5 years if all things were equal. Could be less. I know there was a timeline somewhere of how many people they had working on a year-by-year basis, but I can't seem to find it. I'm sure someone has it, though. That's solely based on time. The value of experience with, not just the genre, but the IP is invaluable. So to have a team who is 240 strong from the beginning, who just finished making Witcher 2 is like a dream. Chances are nobody at CIG had worked on a space sim before. I mean there simply haven't been any. Not to mention having to address serious technical concerns in the engine.
There are a plethora of factors that people just seem to conveniently ignore if they do, in fact, known anything about game development. Unfortunately it's binary with people, there is very little logic involved.
Granted, I'll give you props for actually going out and getting a great deal of information, building a timeline, giving really good empirical evidence to support your ideas. However, in the end it still ends up boiling down to "They Lied" or "No They Didn't". Sorry, but there is very little in the way of mental gymnastics going on, and if you don't honestly believe in what you're typing then why boil it down? Why feed the propaganda machine? Why not help raise the collective intelligence of the murca? It's, obviously, desperately in need of it.
I know there was a timeline somewhere of how many people they had working on a year-by-year basis, but I can't seem to find it.

OK here we go again, @Erillion you guys love comparing SC to non KS games. You also love to say how many devs they have and use it as some lame excuse of why it is taking so long. Then we have this:
Work on it began in 1999
Five years, 50 developers, and about $63M: That’s what it took to make vanilla World of Warcraft. Development began at Blizzard back before the turn of the century, the same year that EverQuest and Asheron’s Call released.
You do see that 63m and only 50 devs. Now exactly what has CR done with 107m+ and how many devs. LOL what a joke.
Also @Erillion there is not one thing CR has done that is groundbreaking or new tech. Everything CR says no one else has done is just not true. It has been done in other games and it has been shown to you guys numerous times yet you ignore it and keep saying these lies.
Ok there is one thing...raised over 100m and after all this time, does not have any working game. Just a demo. So yeah you have that from 2011! He should be very proud.
Look at the bright side of all of this. At least we will be able to give freelancer a proper rest when we want to show proof of how poorly CR manages projects and put SC in its place.

Are you honestly comparing WoW's original development to CIG? Ok, so then why is it that WoW increase their team size by 40% for MoP? Then it increase another 50% for WoD? If we are to believe what you're saying, Blizzard should have been able to complete their expansions with 50 developer, right? Also, WoW expansions are estimated to take somewhere in the arena of 3 years to complete. So what's the explanation? Have they become more inefficient? have things become more complex?
Why did GTA V cost over $100 million? Why did Destiny cost over $100 million? Why did The Witcher 3 cost around $80 million? I mean if they made WoW for $63 then anything over that is ridiculous. I mean every game is essentially the same.

Not if you can see it in plain sight. However, if you walk into a butcher and buy a steak and they wrap it up in nice butcher paper for you, can you tell me exactly how long until it will be rotten and full of maggots?

PS:
"....help raise the collective intelligence of the murca?"
;-)

CIG Austin
"The keyword for this month has been ROADMAP. Lots of scheduling and planning has been going on this month for 2016, and we’ve made good progress in laying down a roadmap for features and content."
Planning for the year 2016. Just as they do for every year. Special emphasis: " Lots of scheduling and planning has been going on this month for 2016." Taken from the January 2016 monthly report.
You know, that planning thing you do every year at the beginning.
So we should believe something odd is happening?
I call BS.
Please MrSnuffles site your source for no planning has ever happened at CIG.
Not if you can see it in plain sight. However, if you walk into a butcher and buy a steak and they wrap it up in nice butcher paper for you, can you tell me exactly how long until it will be rotten and full of maggots?
