I seem to always see people attacking WoW on information and news threads every time one pops up. I'm curious why some of you have so much angst against WoW? I have never really heard a good reason from people and it seems to be the same, "Just let this game die already".
So, if you hate/dislike WoW and want to see it gone, why?

I also like pudding. I just don't like pudding on my steak.

I like a good classic dungeon run. Like in vanilla wow or TBC. WoW today just isn't the game it was. Some people think it's better now, and that's fine. I liked it better in TBC or WotLK.
I think that game companies/players should not worry about what the current population of a game (WoW) is and attempt to reach and create a population of its own players. Why would you want to grab people from and established game that has 11 years of content to come and play you brand new game that has little content and nothing established? All that will cause is people not happy with your game because they have ran out of things to do.
Looking at a large chunk of AAA mmo games that have come out in the last couple years. A few of them have fallen out completely because players run out of things to do not long after launch, or because the game tried to copy another game and did it worse. Catering to a new crowd is what some of the first MMOs (Asheron's Call, EQ, AO etc.) did. They did not try to take players from other games, instead they tried to build a game that players wanted to play. (I know it was also the early inception of MMO's and there was a small choice to pick from, and WoW kind of made MMOgaming *cool*)
My opinion is people see WoW as that MMO that did it best and they wish other MMO's to be as successful, however; with the lack of great MMO's on the market that hold only to niche players. People will always flock back to WoW, love it or hate it.

I just find it a very ugly and boring game:
1. The game had bad graphics when it came out and it has not aged very well.
2. Enormous shoulder pads are so 80's.
3. Quest hub grind dumbed down to the extreme.
4. One click crafting dumbed down to the extreme.
5. Every other aspect of MMORPGs dumbed down to the extreme.

I don't dislike WOW at all, but I am tired of playing the many derivatives of it.

Well, with the money they made they could launched enough content to fill 2 or 3 completely new games.
Oh wait, that's exactly what they did, just wasn't in WOW.

But the effect the game has had on the industry has been very harmful.
Generic, bland, follow the dot quests where you hop from ? to ? following breadcrumbs and no thought is required to complete. Questing is now about as complex as hungry hungry hippo.
Fast transport here, lobby group finders there...Other people have become roadbumps to the next candy treat rather then a source of assistance or friendship. Large world maps are now time consuming time wasters rather then content filled places for exploration and adventure.
0.0001% improvement is very important. The insane drive for people to improve their armour set by small incremental steps rather then for the sense of achievement or shared experience with others.
I could go on but essentially from a design point of view the game is well made but from the perspective of how it has influenced the genre I wish it had never become so popular.
source?
Anyway, don't want millions in my game. I think that would be bad. Solid thousand would do!
This reminds me in old EQ1 days (when druid or wizzys were needed to port) where peeps would wait for hours at HT for someone to drop out of a group. Gone are the days!
The reason I don't play doesn't actually have anything to do with the game play itself, it's the same reason I tell people to stay away from EVE and that is that the new player experience isn't even close to what it was when the game was Vanilla.
By this I mean, I actually love the back story in Warcraft, it is very well done, lots of depth. Wow and it's expansions have added to that over the years. The problem is, the new expansions have actually over-written and closed out story lines and is actually impossible to get all the videos/stories from the original game/early expansions anymore. Add to the fact that the vast majority of players are all end game, it makes for a lacking experience.

That being said, my wife still enjoys the game, so i still have to play it and pretend i am having fun.
You can buy fish at a market so I wonder why so many people spend so much time going thru the many tedious timesinks found in the hobby of fishing?
