Why do you hate WoW?

toljartoljar Member UncommonPosts: 240

I seem to always see people attacking WoW on information and news threads every time one pops up. I'm curious why some of you have so much angst against WoW? I have never really heard a good reason from people and it seems to be the same, "Just let this game die already".

So, if you hate/dislike WoW and want to see it gone, why?

I never played WoW but I would like to see it gone only to repopulate other MMOs that I play.

I don't hate WoW. I hate games that try to be WoW when they should be something else instead.

I also like pudding. I just don't like pudding on my steak.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

The 5 million that left Wow have not turned up in other games....why would the rest?

I dont hate WoW,  i just dont think it's worth a sub anymore.  I played WoW from launch to Cataclysm.(left late Cata)  I tried pandaria,  but it just didn't feel right. Wasn't a fan of the setting,  but i could probably have lived with that if the few dungeons i tried had been good.   They just weren't.  They felt more like a 10min zerg than a dungeon.  I know lots of people didn't like Scholomance,  but i did.  New Scholomance was just bad.  I know i only tried 2 or 3 of the new dungeons,  but they were a big part of why i never bothered to log back in.

I like a good classic dungeon run. Like in vanilla wow or TBC.  WoW today just isn't the game it was.  Some people think it's better now,  and that's fine. I liked it better in TBC or WotLK.

Because Blactivision stopped spending money on it. If they don't think their game is worth putting money into, why the hell should I?

I'm with you OP, can't understand the hate, though I believe that most of those who attack WOW have never really played it for any length of time.

I think that game companies/players should not worry about what the current population of a game (WoW) is and attempt to reach and create a population of its own players. Why would you want to grab people from and established game that has 11 years of content to come and play you brand new game that has little content and nothing established? All that will cause is people not happy with your game because they have ran out of things to do.

Looking at a large chunk of AAA mmo games that have come out in the last couple years. A few of them have fallen out completely because players run out of things to do not long after launch, or because the game tried to copy another game and did it worse. Catering to a new crowd is what some of the first MMOs (Asheron's Call, EQ, AO etc.) did. They did not try to take players from other games, instead they tried to build a game that players wanted to play. (I know it was also the early inception of  MMO's and there was a small choice to pick from, and WoW kind of made MMOgaming *cool*)

My opinion is people see WoW as that MMO that did it best and they wish other MMO's to be as successful, however; with the lack of great MMO's on the market that hold only to niche players. People will always flock back to WoW, love it or hate it.

I don't mind if it sticks around another 50 years.

I just find it a very ugly and boring game:

    1. The game had bad graphics when it came out and it has not aged very well.
    2. Enormous shoulder pads are so 80's.
    3. Quest hub grind dumbed down to the extreme.
    4. One click crafting dumbed down to the extreme.
    5. Every other aspect of MMORPGs dumbed down to the extreme.

It's not WoW, it's me. I'll still give it a go each expac and have some fun, but it's a hallow experience. Still the absolute best raiding content in the business, but there has to be more to it than that. In truth, the move to a more arcadey feel (probably not the best terminology but it's what I have) was what lost me.

Yeah, I mean there's not been any new content like expansions or anything.

I read an estimate that 100m people have tried WOW, and most any game you play there are former WOW gamers.

I don't dislike WOW at all, but I am tired of playing the many derivatives of it.

I think people don't hate wow they hate the people who are running things in a way of greed or lazyness and the community of wow on the toxic side.

Well, with the money they made they could launched enough content to fill 2 or 3 completely new games.

Oh wait, that's exactly what they did, just wasn't in WOW.  :p

WOW is a well made game and I personally don't hate the game.

But the effect the game has had on the industry has been very harmful.

Generic, bland, follow the dot quests where you hop from ? to ? following breadcrumbs and no thought is required to complete. Questing is now about as complex as hungry hungry hippo.

Fast transport here, lobby group finders there...Other people have become roadbumps to the next candy treat rather then a source of assistance or friendship. Large world maps are now time consuming time wasters rather then content filled places for exploration and adventure.

0.0001% improvement is very important. The insane drive for people to improve their armour set by small incremental steps rather then for the sense of achievement or shared experience with others.

I could go on but essentially from a design point of view the game is well made but from the perspective of how it has influenced the genre I wish it had never become so popular.

Anyway, don't want millions in my game. I think that would be bad. Solid thousand would do!

This reminds me in old EQ1 days (when druid or wizzys were needed to port) where peeps would wait for hours at HT for someone to drop out of a group. Gone are the days!

I think most of the gaming community has similar feelings, and it's not hate, maybe a little jealousy their own personal favorite title doesn't have the funding/community WoW has. That being said, the more a game is designed for everyone, the more flaws everyone can pull out of it that doesn't agree with them.

The reason I don't play doesn't actually have anything to do with the game play itself, it's the same reason I tell people to stay away from EVE and that is that the new player experience isn't even close to what it was when the game was Vanilla.

By this I mean, I actually love the back story in Warcraft, it is very well done, lots of depth. Wow and it's expansions have added to that over the years. The problem is, the new expansions have actually over-written and closed out story lines and is actually impossible to get all the videos/stories from the original game/early expansions anymore. Add to the fact that the vast majority of players are all end game, it makes for a lacking experience.

No hate. Played it, liked it. Moved on. I can only do the same type of thing a finite number of times before getting bored. Expansion may change some of the content, but it's all similar.

WoW is no longer itself. There have been great changes to making it a more modern game - but the weight of the bad changes seem to drag it down in my book. The lore is a mess and your hero might as well be considered just a general person like every other hero - nothing feels special anymore.

I loved burning crusade wow.  I hate the carebear treehugging ezmode everyone gets a trophy game it has turned into.

That being said, my wife still enjoys the game, so i still have to play it and pretend i am having fun.  :)

What "good old days" I was mining for over 2 hrs last night with my corp, but we call it content.

You can buy fish at a market so I wonder why so many people spend so much time going thru the many tedious timesinks found in the hobby of fishing?
