    why do you hate WoW?

well, it's not the game that i hate. i hate what became of the genre "mmo(rpg)" because of WoW. without that game the genre would have been turned a complete different (maybe better) direction. you just need to compare the mmo's pre-wow and post-wow.

It's a fine game, boring as hell after a few weeks of grinding, unfortunately. Garrisons are mostly shit, LFR has made raid content feel fairly underwhelming. I came back when they made subscriptions possible to be paid for with gold, otherwise I wouldn't stick around, and the only thing that's really keeping me somewhat active is the Role Playing community: it's fucking huge. I'm not sure that I hate the game so much as I hate how much people have tried to replicate it due to the popularity and exposure. Variety has suffered with minor exceptions.

Overall, quite a polished experience, lots of content to absorb if you're into that sort of thing, and plenty of lore for people who are interested in the story aspect of the Warcraft universe (although you could make the argument it's become rather ridiculous, even within the scope of High Fantasy). Unless you're dedicated to an arena rating, a hardcore raiding guild, or an RP community, (with plenty of spare time to accumulate the gold to pay for a subscription), I wouldn't recommend it.

How common epic/legendaries are, they barely ever feel epic or legendary.
Also, the constant nerfing and simplifying, i liked big talent trees, and i liked Alterac Valley going on for days.

I also enjoyed all the extra fluff abilities classes used to have, all this harmonization blows.

Also just to clarify, while I'm currently bored of WoW, i return every other year or so and Love playing it, It's in my eyes still the best MMO out there, I've just played it too much.

And in Legion paladins and dk's loose auras guess it is to hard to keep track of, why not just give us autoattack and be done with it.

The only thing that I hate about WoW is that they have forced developers to feel the need to try to copy them. It seems like MMO development is now stuck in copy WoW's success mode and they have no plans to try to progress past this phase they are in.

I don't. I hate the people who play and actually think it's the best thing going.... Wow was great, WoW was awesome. WoW is embarrassingly dated.

honestly.  not enough people play anymore.  that's why mmo's "suck" nowadays.  not enough people play the same one.

I never played WoW but I would like to see it gone only to repopulate other MMOs that I play.
The 5 million that left Wow have not turned up in other games....why would the rest?
And you know that.....? How exactly?

Please, re-read your line several times, and see if it makes sens!

@OP - Who ever hates on WoW is that kind of a guy you hear in a theater and you just want to punch him and say "SHUT UP!!! ( and silent your phone )" !

How can a mature, mentally stable person be so emotionally involved that they "hate" a VIDEO GAME?

If I had to pick one reason that people hate WoW, it would be that it has become the "big business" of the MMO world.  WoW has sort of become too big for its britches.  Before WoW, MMOs were enjoyed by relatively few gamers compared to today.  We picked an MMO for what it offered, but we stayed for the community.  WoW's success turned the MMO gaming industry on its head, and showed every no-name game studio that cashing in on the MMO boom was possible.  Is WoW responsible for this?  Of course not, but it catches the blame a lot like McDonald's is blamed for the obesity epidemic.  Put another way, the same pop culture that was responsible for its success, is now responsible for the hate that it catches.  WoW got so popular that it was "cool" to like it.  That always has an eventual backlash.

Personally, I've had lots of great WoW experiences, but today it has become a jack-of-all-trades type of game.  That's just not my thing anymore.  I enjoy focused gameplay that doesn't try to cater to everyone with a computer.  All these companies trying to hit that "magic formula' have destroyed the spirit of MMOs.  Black Desert is a great example.  There's a 20 page thread arguing about whether it's going to be p2w.  Before WoW, the thought of a sandbox style MMO being pay to win would have been so laughable a concept that people would have avoided it like the plague.

So the TL;DR version is this.  Is WoW responsible for all the bad?  Of course not, but it catches a lot of blame for other companies' bad decisions.

I don't hate it, but I don't like it. I played it for about 6 months right after release. I'm not a quester, so it was just not my kind of game. There are few games that I truly love to play, the rest have been time killers.

I dont hate WoW, i just dislike that it brought EZ-mode to MMO's. Game studios noticed how much money it was raking in and they tried to copy the recipe, poorly at that for the greater part! I do hate the graphics, the very much linear path to level, how everything is handed to you on a platter leaving nothing to players to figure out on their own.

I never hated World of Warcraft itself but I hate all the internet thugs in the game who think they are bad asses, plus all the kids that play. I'll never be going back to World of Warcraft because its boring now days.

I don't hate it at all, it's essentially still a great game. I hate blizzard because if they actually cared about it, it could be so much more.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

the people who play it, and by extension pretty much any mmo, you know who they are, the wannabe elitards, the people who spout stupid crap in chat , the drooling pvp morons who whine and complain that nobody queues for the gankfest, the fucktards who want to be carried and have ridiculous requirements for entry level groups or raids, the slobbering rejects who want everything RIGHT NOW OR IMMA CANCEL MY SUB

@prizm1234 Doesn't that pretty much describe every MMO?

There's always been a strong undercurrent of that anti-popularity thing. And "I'm pro-EQ so I haaaaate WoW" was really trendy for a lot of years, too. Also a fair number of people for whom "someone in chat said something really mean to me one time."

But mostly it's just fanboyism vs haterism. Happens for each and every new mmo released, too. WoW's only remarkable for the sheer scale of the nastiness.

And here we are, twelve years later. Still going.

Because I want to be cool and fit in here.

In truth I am currently indifferent to it, but grateful for the experiences I had back in Vanilla through to the end of LK.

I love WOW and I started it in 2004 when I was well 12 years younger. Now I am 40 and still love the WOW specialy that Hard Core part is gonne and I have a wife and kids and the pace and the changes are good for me. Now I can spend time with family and in the evening go to raid. I never saw game going dumbed I saw how the game changed so everyone can spend time in it. With all range of difficulity. As for leveling. Lets be fair and stop for a sec. Leveling is a proces of geting to max lev where the real challenge waits (for many games). it can be good for you or not, dumb or awesome, boring or interesting. At the end we all wanna see what is gonna happend when you finaly get to max lev. There is where WOW still shine. Conntent is so huge that you can always go back and do something interesting in other games you end up in gold grinding so you can keep playing without the sub.
Now we have a wave of games that were much before WOW like Ulita Online.
We have Albion Online coming, Arch Age, Black Desert.... they all try to be some sort of Ultima and it is fine but that is totaly different type of MMORPG then WOW, Wildstar, Tera, GW2 and ppl still compare it what is better.
It is totaly up to you as a player what you like the most. There are so many games right now that can suit your need.
For someone is WOW, for someone is Black Desert for Someone is Cable 1&2 or even Devillian.

As for me, I love WOW and I will get bored and cancle sub for 2,3,5,6 months who knows cause I get bored and play something else but WOW is my home for 12 years where I got so many friends and had good time and I will always go back for another adventure even it would be just for a month or 10 days.

I actually didn't mind the game so much. The thing that bugged me the most from the game side was the constant flip-flopping between PVP and PVE emphasis by the devs. So many PVE nerfs just because of PVP, and vice versa. That, I could tolerate.

But the community, at least on the couple of servers I played on ... very caustic.

If you weren't cookie cutter build, if you didn't have cookie cutter enchants, if you didn't spam Recount meters, if you didn't top a DPS chart, if you didn't speak on Ventrilo, if you didn't have separate keybinds for each and every ability...

Everything in the community seemed to get boiled down to whatever a few popular theorycrafters would post, and everyone would latch on to that, and not only not accept anything else, but ridicule and ostracize it. Everyone wanted to think they were "pro", and did their best to immitate what they thought was "pro", and not surprisingly, almost no one ever was.

Sure, there were some good people who played WoW - both genuinely good players and genuinely good people. But for every good person I knew that played, there were 10 of the nastiest scum trolls I had ever seen.

I don't hate wow. I have had great, unbelievable experiences with wow. When/if blizz makes a new mmorpg i will absolutely be the silent positive majority with my head in the sand.
