I imagine there are a lot of supportive people.  I do not consider the mean spiritedness of many of the people on gaming forums as normal.

I self identify as a monkey.

I wish Crobberts would make his mind up. If he changes his opnion this much during a two minute interview it makes you wonder how bad he must be back in the studio.

I wish everyone in the world would never change their opinion, broaden their perspective, progress, or evolve. I wish we could take every word spoken or written literally as the final say they have forever and ever and ever. I also wish we all had better spelling and grammar. I also wish people wouldn't obsess over things they don't like. I also wish I had a 3 meat (beef, sausage, and linguica) pizza from Dominos.

I wish I was little bit taller,
    I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl who looked good
    I would call her
    I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
    and a '64 Impala

Bartoni's Law definition: As an Internet discussion grows volatile, the probability of a comparison involving Donald Trump approaches 1.

"One of the oxymorons of crowdfunding is you're asking for money to make this game, but you don't know how much money you're going to get," he said. "Unless you just want to pocket the rest of the money, which isn't my thing at all; I want to make the best game possible."

    Yeah...

    About that...

    History revisionism FTL.

You see it was not: "We got a lot of money, we will find new content to spend that money on." It was, "If you give us all these money, we will give you this content." And after ~65M of that, it was just extended with new ship content to keep money pooring in.

At any point they could have stopped promising/selling more content, and the money influx would have subsided quickly, thus finally locking the scope in place. The way they run it now he can use that as an excuse to never deliver as long as money keeps coming in. ("We need to spend the money you give us...")

not completely following you but i Think I agree.

I do want to point out it doesnt by default then mean its a scam.

its likely he just got excited about how fun making promises where and didnt stop and simply forgot about the 'oh I have to actually create it now' part. calling that a scam i think is giving it MORE credit then it most likely deserves

CIG does not have a marketable product. Right now it is selling dreams with a tech demo, some jpegs and a poorly managed complex of studios filled with under-payed artists.

It sounds like you both would be better off not getting involved in early development by way of time or finances. That's the real answer for you. Why should they stop generating revenue as the project progresses? I haven't seen very many, if any, crowd funded project that doesn't do this. It doesn't even have to be on Kickstarter. Camelot Unchained, Torment, Crowfall, and any other popular title I could find does this. If it doesn't work for then don't participate.
I think the difference is between each iteration of ideas SC spend more time, energy and money promoting the concepts then all the others. I personally am not directly suggesting that is bad but in the case of SC specifically it does appear they spend more 'capital' doing that then they do actual development

Unless anyone is directly involved in development (i.e. employed by the company) I fail to see how anyone can really gauge where the project is.

Because they have not shown or revealed certain aspects of the game development cycle should not really be used and the be all and end all of where the project is. Not saying I have any info either way but just wanted to point out that assumptions and guesses are pretty much what everyone seems to throw around as 100% truth which is dishonest at best (don't mean you personally of course).

Look at the other end of the spectrum recently when FO4 was revealed. 6 months to release and no one even knew is was in development for about 7 years. Wild assumptions either way is the best path to looking like a fool.

The guys behind Camelot Unchained have given me some of my best PvP in MMOs I have ever played. The guys behind Crowfall have made other successful MMOs. I don't know about the head of CIG.

We'll know exactly "where development is" when they release 2.2, but it's 3 weeks late from the date set by Roberts in December. It's not a finished product to "be delayed until it's ready", it's just a tech demo, wanna-be alpha. They can push it out the door...

...unless they've broken it so badly it doesn't work anymore.

and that is exactly why i used the word 'appear'.

I am not trying to suggest that what it seems to me to be factual but it has made me pause to wait and see what the 'talkin' actually produces. because sometimes it feels like they are spending the crowd money on presentations.

    Wing Commander
however as a developer myself (not game development) I can say the experience of creating a game from the 80s pretty much by yourself moving pixels around by hand is nothing at all like running at multi-million dollar gaming project

oh good point we all have it wrong, there is clearly a large community of arm chair developers providing feedback. well that makes us all look like a 'giddy goose'

Meh, I'm more of a shay's lounge type of guy. Can I develop one of those instead?
