Probably complicated more than complex but without playing it I cannot judge it. I like what the systems seem to show and indicate a more involved one than either ESO or SWTOR have. Combat though is out for me.
Sandbox games and story just have a really hard time co-existing.
True but the problem is BDO has nothing to replace the story with.
In EVE, story is replaced via complexity - robust economy, something BDO won't have.
BDO isn't a sandbox by any stretch - it is still the same vertical progression game, and that is all fine.
The negative connotation people attribute to themepark term is just silly, it is the sole reason why as soon as there is a game they like, they start calling it "sandbox" or inventing terms such as "sandpark", "themebox" or w/e in order to avoid it.

Man I wish I loved quest and story driven MMO's as much as you do. I would actually have options regarding which MMO to play.
I'm not putting BDO in any category other than they are attempting to give me a small bit more freedom than the linear quest hub themeparks...that is a good thing. Those of us that hate quests don't have many options. BDO might not end up being great but at least it is offering something slightly different.
I have mixed feelings about the game. The apparent interactiveness of the world, amount of tiny non-combat things to do, cute details like falcon perching on one's arm, and great character creator (I can finally create an old character, or a muscular female) - all these features are working hard to lure me. On the other hand, there is something unsettling about the animations. In combat, the characters freeze for a fraction of second after delivering the blow (possiby to show the impact?). Out of combat, the NPCs' gestures and poses are pretensiously exaggerated. Maybe it's Eastern thing, because most Asian MMOs I recall had strange animations like that. Last but not least, many armor designs look more like something you would wear to a fantasy convention and not to combat, i.e. they look very fragile and decorative, or just plain stupid (high heels on a warrior?) Basically, I'm not that fond of the aestetics. Anyway, knowing myself, I'll probably try it sooner or later.

No, but it is easy. Nothing hard in this game at all.

I can enjoy SWTOR as much as I enjoy EVE Online. There is plenty of options and each game provides something different from others.
It is all about mindset, being able to enjoy games for what they are.
