It may not seem that I have been on this site for long, but in truth I have been on this site for years. I didn't have an account on this site for the majority of my time on here, simply because I lurked, and did not see a reason to make an account (I barely use this one as it is).
I never played any of the real old school games that people seem to love to recall such as EQ, Asherons Call, DAOC, Ultima, etc. My earliest MMORPG was runescape, whether that is old school or not will be left up to you.
For years I have listened to this community specifically point out things that they loved about the old style of games that they use to play. THe list below will describe features that BDO shares with the things people on this forum seem to love about old school MMO's.
World Bosses - The community manager confirmed that the US version of black desert will have more open world bosses (four of which are already in the game) that will take 30-40 players to take down.
Open World Dungeons/Raids - This is basically dungeons without instancing , though i heard these are more prominent in the recent update that the KR version had.
No Instancing - From what I understand this game has virtually no instancing that I am aware of. If it does, it is so minuscule that i have yet to hear of it.
Grinding - This one hits home for me, killing mobs for experience rather than quests being the main source of experience.
Community - I am assuming people will learn of each other as their is no cross server interaction that I am aware of. (No LFG/autogrouping)
Epic is Epic - I heard of a world boss that came out with a Valencia update that drops the strongest weapon for each class. The percentage of the weapon drops are quite low.
There are more things I could go on about but I think I have given a decent example of what I mean. My question is (ofr those players that reminisce over old school games) : Is this the game you have been waiting for? Why, or why not?

When I first heard that this would be a game where you could grind to level that is what got my attention. When I found out it would have sandbox features in an open seamless world with open pvp and territory control I was sold.
Lineage 3 is still the game I am waiting on but just like ArcheAge this is another step in the right direction.
All of the things mentioned above that BDO doesn't have is what makes BDO an improved version of an old school game.
One thing that is holding me back is there is still a pretty high focus on pvp as endgame, and those openworld dungeons/raids/bosses are mostly talk at this point, but in the future when we see how much non pvp endgame there is, I might be persuaded.
The other thing is the combat. After playing the beta weekend I just weren't sold. Also I have not seen any info about how much coop between classes there will be. Coop combat mechanics is very important for me, and I know it can't be heal-tank-support, but there needs to be some advanced role system in place. If it is like gw2 every man (big boobed girl) for themselves, then that is a major minus for me.
What _could_ make me play it is that there is a good deal I didn't learn during the beta and people say there is deeper gameplay under the facade. And what other game is there really ? if you can't stand another hour of railroaded story driven mmogs. More likely I will give it a few years to mature and see what kind of game it actually is once the fog has cleared.
Anyways, from thinking BD would be another shallow asian themepark ending in a pvp gankfest, I can see it could be more than that.. but I am still not entirely convinced though

I actually enjoy a lot of the other mechanics the game has. The ones that would push this game over the top are the ones i mentioned it lacks. To me, the most important aspect of any MMO is how group mechanics work as well as how classes depend on each other within the PVE environment. This aspect is extremely lacking. I do like everything else though.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Stuff I'm concerned about: Fkn hate the gender locking, but if the game's good I can overlook it. I don't care about the the cash shop *as it is now.* If there really are consequences for ganking, that's a good thing.
About OWPVP: I hated Mortal Online because it was extremely difficult for a new player to get started solo. When I start out in a game, I don't join a guild right off (if my old guild is not playing) because I don't know if I'm going to stick around.
Darkfall (original) was alright. You could have fun and find a niche as a solo player, in a small clan, or in a larger clan or alliance. It just depended on what you wanted. There was some senseless ganking, but that's a part of pvp. You could still establish yourself solo until you got to know people and decide who you wanted to clan up with.
I think BDO will let you mature your character on your own and when you get the lay of the land, you can pick the people you want to guild with once you know your server and who plays at your time, etc. That's what it seems like anyway from what I've read and seen.
