Two days ago I assembled a treasure map ending in a hidden cave.
Yup. I liked that one too. Not all that easy to find either, even when you know where to look.

I didn't see any threads like this out there already, so I'll create one for myself, and people can feel free to use the same one in order to list their gaming preferences so that more knowledgable BDO players can educate us on a game buying decision.

So whether it be DAoC, SWG, CoH, WoW, or any other game out there, I've always been the type that could be described as an adventurer. I prefer adventuring with like-minded people, but I'm fine doing it solo too. What I mean by adventuring, is basically what some people may call exploration and combating all the nasty things that threaten ordinary citizens of the world. I'm not a crafter, a trader, a business owner or what have you. I'm also not a griefer or a spastic PvPer that gets off on the thrill of killing other people. I really do enjoy the leveling up process with great character customization. Assigning attribute points, skill points, and choosing which skills I want to learn is what I love about RPG's, along with the adventuring.

Considering the above, I open the floor to the more knowledgeable BDO players out there and to whoever else may be on the fence about this game.
Personally from your list of expectations, I'd say no.  Sure you might find it fun for the first 30 days, but the core of the game really gravitates away from what you want.

Character customization is exceedingly deceptive... sure you can fiddle with just about every attribute there is under the sun to create your characters physique or face or hairdo, but most of that is hidden away behind clothing.  It's gender locked, so if you see a ranger, they're all female... every damn one of them.  That isn't an issue per se, the issue is they all LOOK the same because they wear the exact same gear.  You don't have a real opportunity to make your character look different without the use of the cash shop.  That's where all the variety is... in the cash shop.  If you don't mind seeing endless waves of people that more or less look identical, then this won't be an issue.  But for me, it was painfully obvious how similar everyone was... in a game touted for having the best character customization!

The mobs are generally stupid.  They won't attack unless you attack... UNLESS, you run around in a zone in which they are all well above your level.  Then they will notice you.  If you are near or at level, they will act like mobs that won't even notice you.  So the only real threat out in the world is other players... assuming they actually choose to PVP.

Exploration may yield you great vistas and an opportunity to find nodes to farm, but all in all, it's pretty empty off the beaten path.

So unless you are really into crafting or PVP, I think this game will have a lifespan of 1 month for you, maybe 2.

It launches today and there will be several, no a lot of 7 day passes so get one and see for yourself. Im a retired older gamer who is playing it and so far likeing it. A lot to learn though
You playing on the PVE server Elsa?  ;)

    Yes, Edan server

    yes. the garden is peaceful
Wait, what? There actually is a PVE only server?

    Who knew?

Also, someone mentioned in an earlier post "you have to craft"

Don't get me wrong, I love games with good crafting systems, just as long as others do it for me.

EVEs like this, other people make ships, I make ISK from mining and ratting to buy their stuff.

Some MMOs are balanced so that unless you craft, you will really struggle to financially prosper and survive.

Is BDO like above, or are there viable non crafting career paths available?
