1. you proving to us forum posters that your $45k vehicle is justified because you pull stuff with it is a struggle to deny that many people do in fact spend 10s of thousands of dollars on what is nothing more than vanity. if you are unpleased with us using you as an example maybe we can move on to Porsche owners instead, would that make you feel better?
2. Most people who buy trucks and 4 wheel vehicles, rarely ever use it as such, could use an alliterative such as renting oh hell even a motorcycle!
3. Is getting up that hill with your camping gear that you could not get on a motorcycle really worth $20,000 extra? what is up on that hill that is worth that?
Hey dipshit who knows nothing about me or my family.
It's called fun , and disposable income allows you to enjoy life before you die.
I take my wife and kids who enjoy actual off-roading on trails that at times require winches to finish to the top .
What motorcycle or truck does that , with top off and doors off and the son/daughter and wife enjoying every second of it ?
Why should I settle for anything less that exactly what I want if I have the money for it ?
Again , your diesel truck couldn't get past the beginning area of the off road parks I go to , with the family , who enjoy it.
I watch pickup drivers trying to do the things Wranglers do , and never making it.
Pickups are for hauling shit , Jeeps are for actual fun.
So yes , yes it is worth it.
first off I thought I was replying to postlarval so on that my mistake.
The POINT I am trying to make (and that I got lost in like everyone else) is that to say spending $10,000 on a game is not anymore unjustified then spending an extra $10,000 on a car that one does not really need and does it only for vanity. You and everyone here might not be that person but to deny that its not common place is being naive.
When I was younger I spent $10,000 more on a car that I didnt need to. Zero reason other than it was a cooler car. I was looking for a small car to get around town with, that is all I needed, I spent more than i needed only because it looked better and had a more 'fun' looking interior. HOWEVER, the difference is I knew full well that I was doing that. Nothing wrong with doing that but I would not go around suggesting to people that me spending $10,000 more on vanity was more justified then someone spending $1000 on a virtual space ship.
Fair enough , I'll agree with you on that , I've got no issues with people spending whatever they want in a video game myself , IF they truly have the disposable income.
Have spent a load in MWO online myself just because I loved Battletech.
And apologies for snapping back harsh , just folks in general telling others how to spend their disposable income irritates me
I'm actually on your side if you are saying if someone enjoys spending money on their virtual hobby and has the cash to throw around for it it its fine.
Fair enough , I'll agree with you on that , I've got no issues with people spending whatever they want in a video game myself , IF they truly have the disposable income.
Even if they don't have the disposable income, what is it to you?
How often do you REALLY take your jeep out off road...really....once a month?
Most people who buy sh*t like that claim they use it for all that but on close inspection they use it as designed about twice a year.
Yeah..no surplus of large trucks in the city that NEVER carry a load or pull anything...right? that never happens
I take my Jeep off-road twice a day minimum. My driveway is off-road. I live in the middle of 17 1/2 acres of heavily wooded property...which I didn't get by spending...I'm sorry...wasting large amounts of money on video games.
I also have another vanity item called a Dodge Ram Quad-Cab for hauling my 34' boat. Unless your truck is a 3/4-ton, your transmission will immediately fall apart. However, if you try and use the brakes first, you'll be wearing the boat because trucks like the one you own are fitted with brakes made for a car.
But then, I'm just being vain by having these vehicles.

another example of what I am talking about.
You are hopeless.
you think buying a lot of acres of land so that you can justify buying a 4 wheel drive car to drive out of every morning which in total most likely costs you around $100,000 or more makes more sense then spending a few thousands of dollars on games.
and on TOP of that you think just your purchases make sense which is why that alone is proove that people dont buy vechiles out of vanity...like porches
ok never mind this guy is hopeless
and for the record if I had everything you have I would sell it all, buy an RV a motorcycle and truck to pull it and then I would retire 20 years early. Oh wait, that is exactly what I am doing
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Is the OP actually serious? I spend more on coffee than I do on games, and I buy the cheap store brand. Maybe grow up and get a big-boy job, and THEN play games?
Fair enough , I'll agree with you on that , I've got no issues with people spending whatever they want in a video game myself , IF they truly have the disposable income.
Even if they don't have the disposable income, what is it to you?
Nothing , as long as they don't get ANY government help , and work enough to not qualify for the EITC , don't have kids they can't take care of and so on.
I'm all for personal freedom , as long as you waive the rights to get a dime of my already too much taxes.

steering this a bit more on topic.
The point I have been trying to illustrate with postlarval is that he thinks saving up $200,000 or so for property and vechiles makes more sense then spending thousands of dollars on games.
The point I would like to make is that to be honest for some people those $1000 worth in virtual goods gives some people MORE pleasure then $200,000 worth of land and vechiles so for him to be so dismissive about it is rather insulting.
I know I get more enjoyment out of my games then I do driving around beautiful scenery in my car
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
over my life I have known people who have bought boats they never have a chance to use and end up selling at a loss. Large amounts of property that people end up never enjoying because they spend 100% of their freetime maintaining the property and driving to it. People with rooms in their house that they use maybe at most once a year. cars that are used strickly to get around town costing $30,000 more than they need to for said objective
people blow money and all you need is a sunday drive around any major city to see BLARRINGLY obvious examples of it.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
I don't believe that the majority of so-called "whales" are actually massively wealthy people in RL. I'm quite sure most of them just spend more than they can really afford.
I also don't believe that 5% of players in every game spend more than the other 95% combined. Whales spend significantly more per capita, but it's the minnows who actually keep the game going with hundreds of thousands of small purchases.
To be fair, this is nothing new. This sort of thing has been going on forever. Check out this article from nearly 10 years ago where someone purchased virtual real estate for $330,000

So it's not really an indication of the time.
it just blows my mind, people will spend $300,000 on a boat which will loose value and then question a person who spends the same amount of money for something that is entertainments AND an investment.
I used to live in a very wealthy neighborhood (not because i was but because I had a small apt) and every drive into work I just cant believe my eyes. Like a Ferrari that I would sometimes follow into work (I would not work if i could afford a Ferrari, let alone drive in at 8am). Houses worth $300,000 everwhere...really? $300,000 place to sleep and eat and play? seriously....yup
and then investment firms suggest people 'diversify' yet most of their value is in one home...crazy

Many of the multiplayer, progression games with items starting to be catered and build around for the rich. That's one thing I've noticed a lot recently. Targeting the 1% audience (or in this case the 5%) and designing their MMO's around them. The rest of the players becoming more irrelevant. One of the reasons I haven't found a new product to spend my $ in the last 62 months is because these products do not target me. My $10 to 30 a month apparently is not good enough.
What can the other 90-95% do to make a difference?
F2P scams did this. what can you do to make a difference? stop playing those games.
Been having fun with my new motorcycle instead though.
I love 2 wheels as well. Back in the 60's, my father had a Vespa. My brother would sit at the back and I, 4yrs old would be between my Dad's knees and we'd go trail riding up Burnaby Mtn. Where the trail's started just a couple blocks away from our house. I grew up dirt biking around that mountain all through my childhood. Now at my age I just don't have the stamina for dirt biking and keep it to the pavement these days. I've got a 2011 CVO Electra Glide and I am still in absolute love with it. Still makes me smile every time I saddle up

The idea that $15 per month was ok in 2000 and is ok 16 years later is the real problem.
Games have ballooned in production costs and yet everyone expects a better game for the same price?
$15 per month is more than enough and a lot of these games with high production costs started out with a $15 per month sub only, like SWTOR.
until companies started to realize the F2P scam that will actually bring in more players and more money because those players are being tricked into thinking they get to play a free game when in reality they have to pay far more to get everything that should come with a simple $15 sub.
i can't fault them for doing it when so many people fall for it, even i did at one point until i woke the fuck up.
