Threads (and responses) like this are why these games are semi useless to most people. While everyone can claim "it doesnt hold your hand" how many links to videos walkthroughs or guides have been made to do just that? Yea you have the option to NOT watch them but if you dont you feel inferior or gimped.
Especially in a game like this where apparently the sole purpose is to eventually PvP. So you (think) you need to be as powerful as you can possibly be. Which if everyone does the same things and has all the same gear will eventually balance out (theoretically).

Thats why I have said all these games with 'steep learning curves' arent nearly as steep as people think because there is always a guide or a vid somewhere that shows you every single possible option you can take to find the specific outcome you want. Which basically defeats the whole purpose of actually playing the game.

It isnt specific to this game but this just shows that things games do to make them interesting are minimized by the players playing them.

There are a good many of us who are not playing BDO with the sole purpose of eventually engaging in PvP.  PvP is just one of the many game play features that BDO offers.  Further to the point is the fact that it is a a feature that is greatly overwhelmed by the rest of the features in the game that are all largely PvE related. The biggest fallacy being spread around about BDO is that it is a a PvP-centric game.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  BDO is much more a PvE game than it is a PvP game.  A PvE-centric player can totally ignore the PvP aspects of BDO and still have gobs to do in the game that prevail well into the endgame phase of the game.  On the other hand, the only things that PvP-centric players have to look forward to is the odd-end 1v1 PvP fight/gank and/or the occasional GvG/castle siege.

Regarding your "steep learning curve" comment, the only reason BDO has a steep learning curve is because of the depth in variety of activity and things to do in the game.  They are, however, not difficult to learn.  All it takes is putting forth a little effort to learning them not unlike everything else that we learn in life.  Everything in life is a learning process. Guides just help us along during that process.  After learning the system the player can go on about having fun and enjoying the game like any other exercise that involves getting familiar with any subject at hand.

Your last sentence says it all, and the fact you had the presence of mind to add it in tells me that you are, at least, aware that this isn't a dynamic unique to BDO, or games in general, but to all aspects of life.

Good luck to anyone who can follow the quest chains. Basically just quest here and there to get contribution points. You will want about double contribution points as your level. So if you are level 20, you will want about 40 contribution points, minimum.

Any quest is fine, although if the quest has a level number next to the name. You will probably want to be near that level. Otherwise it means the quest is for any level, (most are).  And yea do all the black spirit quests. I would quest a bunch in Velia too, just to learn some of the basic systems and recipes.

Also: make sure to make and eat food as you level and play constantly, as this permanently increases your max HP by training your "Health" stat.

I am gathering materials I need to build the ship I want but I am not doing much crafting until max level other than making food to eat and fishing while AFK.

You will want to buy the best armor set for your class as soon as you can. So save your black stones for when you have the set you want. You should be able to afford it by level 30.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

So then its normal to be completetly lost at lvl 11? Im getting a little older now and wondering whether i can grasp what this game is about lol I really like what i am seeing thus far and really want to get into a sandbox
The best advice I can offer to help with the lost feeling is build your own mental structured path... Example I quested up to heidel and taught myself how to do the conversation/amity system which is really fun, grinded a bit of mobslike goblins and imps because quests let me to those area. While grinding on them I picked up 100 or so of the tokens and made almost 100k. Now sitting at level 20 im Working on amity/ Convos still but also cooking/fishing and spending contribution points on setting up olvia/velia/heidel with resource nodes and such. I have been level im sorry 19 for days lol and having a blast.

The Black Spirit quests are pretty essential. they give out a lot of stones and inventory increases. A lot of my guild members skipped the quests and are now running around having to do them all for contribution, but I liked just doing the quests as I went, it broke up the monotony of grinding. thats good advice on the health tranining, I didn't even realize thats what lower level foods were for, until i was level 30 and still have lvl1 health

I play MMOs for the Forum PVP

I don't want to bogard this thread but i have a question in relation to this. When I'm playing i feel like there is to much stuff on screen. Is there a way to take some of it off, also in a way it feels a bit fast in regards to my character (not sure how to explain it). I think after getting to level 10 I am starting to get lost as well, but it is more than likely due to what has been stated above. Honestly the thing I want to do most is fish, raise a horse and craft so I'll keep at it. Just seems like there is a lot of things on the screen. I'll just play around with the options to see what is needed and not needed.
You can hit control+U on the keyboard to get a really cool cinema gameplay experiance.

I guess after 5 or 6 weeks we can figure out what there is to do besides PvP as an end game I suppose. Dailies and grinds dont really count. But if thats all people are doing after a couple months then its safe to say that its a PvP centric game. Because to me logging in 20-30 minutes or however long it takes to do a daily isnt really 'playing' the game. Thats like saying guys that log into lotro on their 4 or 5 accounts to spin te slot machine wheel everyday are playing lotro.

We don't have to wait 5 or 6 weeks.  You want end game content?  Here you go, courtesy of Winghaven1.  That's on top of the daily's.  And yes, it is all PvE content.  Now tell me what you got for PvP that matches that and makes this more of a PvP-centric game than a PvE-centric game?

... and no logging in for 20-30 or however long it takes to gank a few players or do a weekly siege isn't really "playing" the game.

    Trading System

You can become a trader. Try to now the city/town economy and carry goods across to sell to npcs for higher prices depending on what they need or want the most. However in your travels be you in a group or solo there will be thieves on the road to watch over as you carry heavy trading supplies that slow your movement speed if you are carrying them via backbag.

Players can also opt to have their horses carry wagons with your goods and therefore carry more and move faster although on bumpy roads one should be careful as to not damage their items.

The trading system is also intertwined with the guild missions and can if used well earn your guild more income to help its progress including its own fair experience to earn guild points.
