I uninstalled it today... Despite liking some facets of the game, there were too many I could not stand. Like the stupid Black Spirit, children with teddy bear ears, horrible story and NPC/Quest Dialogs, class gender locks , horrible looking gear, stingy high priced cash shop to look half way decent.
Kids with Teddy bear ears? I mean there aren't any in this game, but why would they bother you if they WERE in the game?
I figured he was talking about the Shai... although those are pretty much Hobbits/Halflings instead of children with teddy bear ears...
Either that or he's losing track of his Korean MMOs and he's thinking BnS or TERA, who both have child-like races with fluffy ears. xD
I'm not a big fan of lolli characters like the ones in TERA but I actually like the Shai. They are very cute and always manage to bring a smile to my face. I would even consider playing one if they made them into player characters. I think they're adorable. My gf loves them, hence why I wouldn't mind playing one I guess lol

I'm not a fan of them, especially the one in Velia by the storage harassing that poor giant - she must die!
It's a funny cultural thing with Eastern MMOs, a child-like race seems to be obligatory. I think they're all kind of creepy. Although it is nice for a change that BDO doesn't sexualize them.

OP to be perfectly blunt - it is not the game, it cannot take over your life unless you allow this to happen
The issue is self control, planned game times and disciplined gameplay in general - it's player that playes the game.
The game doesn't play the player, because it can't turn itself on, can't work without the player in the drivers seat.
I used to play EQ1 obsessively - full blown gamer addiction, was dreaming about it, thinking about it on the job, while driving etc... I turned my life into an EQ1 first and everything else second - I did this, it was not EQ1 taking over my life, it was me, EQ1 was just the scapegoat.
Addiction is a bitch, but it can be controlled through planning and self discipline, therapy and counseling is also very helpful in extreme cases.

I agree with what others have said, it is your problem not the game that is the issue. If you can't play even casually, then you need help.
Let's be a little fair here, playing casually is a lot easier said than done when you really enjoy a game.
Not really, It is just a game after all. If it is more important, than anything else, then it is a problem. Nothing wrong with enjoying a game, but all in moderation.
I can enjoy a game playing casual. RL is a time sink enough, I don't need something that is not real sucking even more time away.

That moment when you have to quit mmorpg, because it's too good for you. Imo you just cant control yourself. If i was you i'd keep playing the game if i enjoyed it so much.
I was like this with SWG. I remember during new years day we had friends over and I kept leaving to go to my computer room and check the game to see if the chest with mods had spawned inside the bat cave. My wife wanted to shoot me.
Lucky for me SOE killed the fun in that game and made me realize how much time I was wasting.
"Sean (Murray) saying MP will be in the game is not remotely close to evidence that at the point of purchase people thought there was MP in the game." - SEANMCAD
The problem I find isn't with the game, but with human nature. It's the feeling that you aren't doing something and therefore 'wasting' time. The thing I started doing was playing the game for a set time. When that time hit I shut my computer down. No AFK fishing, nothing. Just shut it down and walk away. is it the optimal way to play the game? No. But it does help with time management and puts the game in the correct priority of life. Play the game at your pace and at the level that your life will allow. Don't worry about the most optimal way to play. Just play it and have fun for the time that you have available to play it. Your family progression doesn't disappear. It just won't increase as fast if you dedicate your entire life to it. But honestly who cares if that's the case? This isn't a race.

offcourse its the player...
and over the course of years this player has learned what his life can handle...and how to take care of the bujmps in the road... for me only cutting them away as much as possible works..
if i keep playing, ik keeps creeping back on me.. and i have learend from my past experiences that this is what works for this player...
Just to give an excample, it was easy for me to quit smoking after 15 years... but whne it comes to food, i can quit easilly loose 15 pounds if i get out of shape... but i can not keep to a healthy diet all the time so i have to loose that weight again and again.. Thats the same way with this game... if i dont quit, it will creep back on me...
Oh, and i dont see this as addiction, because after making that decision, its quite easy to bann the actuall game from my mind, as long as i support my decission. Yet i am still man enough to admit that this is a great game...

I understand what you are saying Lord. This started to happen to me again with AA because with AA you needed to spend a lot of time farming mats for crafting, you needed to farm plots of land that were about to burn down and so on. While it was fun it took a lot away from the family.
The problem is these types of games are enjoyable because you get so deeply involved with them. The problem is people can get too involved with them. I think the solution is to come up with some new ways of having a deeply involved game without needed to spend so much time in game. For example SWG had extractors that would do you gathering for you. Great mechanic however you had to go check them daily to empty the hopper and move them from location to location. A good mechanic to combat people logging in at 4am like I did to manage all this stuff would be to have a web page where I could log in 2 or 3 times a week and click a button to empty my hopper or to add more energy. While Crafting will be still fairly in-depth if I could interact with things like my extractor in game from a web page it would save me having to have my life revolve around doing something for the game.
Not saying everything in games should be like however small tasks like gathering your mats from an extractor or in AA having a NPC lumber jack that could cut down my trees and replant new ones would cut down on the need to schedule everything in my life around a game. Now yes I still think scheduling raiding or an instance in game around real life is ok, some of these minor things no.
AA is a huge time sink - way worse than BD IMO as there is no automated crafting, no autopath etc...
Black Desert can be played casually - same as any game just give up the idea that you can keep up with 1%ers, you cant and frankly you don't want to as what top players give up in RL to play so much is not worth it.
Have to agree. I went hard on AA, EQ and a couple of others in my life, but can't even comprehend how that could happen in BD. It just wasn't at all demanding. Then again, some people get addicted to solitaire, so I recommend the OP stay away from gaming in general.
As has been said before, you just need to set priorities within the game and make a realistic time frame. Of course everything wont always fit within the time frame regardless of how well you plan things, but sticking to it allows you to have fun within the game you like and teaches you tolerance. It also makes the game more enjoyable since you have more things to look forward to. You bought the game, so its not going anywhere in the next 2 years at least. If AA can stick around for at least 2 years with all the stuff talked about it, BDO definitely can. Maybe even include the family in the exploration of the game or something so you all can enjoy it together.

I'm with @DMKano on this. I guess when you reach certain age you have to plan your fun. Although this kind of reminded me of Monica from Friends. Let's have some organized fun!!
But yeah I'm like that as well. for example today I have 14:00 - 16:00 meeting with the design team. 16:00 - 17:30 Bloodborne. 18:30 - infinity apologizing to the missus for not launching her the proper surprise birthday party.

He kept on telling her how wonderful the game is and why she should try it. A couple of months later she lost her job too. So, she went on and did try the game.
They were in a financial mess so he couldn't afford to buy another PC for himself. He used to come to my house to attend his raids.
