I understand you. And while we don't share the exact same story i too was seeing the trend and decided to stop playing BDO even thou i enjoyed it. Probably because i was playing so much hardcore  to Everquest and WOW before and i immediatly reconized the mechanics leading to addiction was there (for me at least). A lot of mmo alway had (again for me) this feeling that you could play for any amount of time in 1 session you would still have a feeling of having done basically nothing most of time when you would log it.

It's kind of frustrating for some reason and this doesn't happen in "regular" game, for exemple i play to street fighter V and i can enjoy 1 hour of it, leave it and keep with me a very satisfactory feeling of both enjoyement and satisfaction. This kind of feeling i almost never had with MMO.

Good call on leaving an addiction that was consumming you anyway

Just get a girl that loves gaming ;)
That doesn't always guarantee a happy ending. During TBC days a mate of mine had lost his job. So he was playing WoW 24/7. His wife was not happy about the situation obviously. He kept on telling her how wonderful the game is and why she should try it. A couple of months later she lost her job too. So, she went on and did try the game.

They were in a financial mess so he couldn't afford to buy another PC for himself. He used to come to my house to attend his raids.

    I wasn't happy.

    He wasn't happy.

    So I shot him!
A least the situation was resolved ;)

Ironically, I had a similar situation back in the day when both myself and my ex-girlfriend had a very unhealthy relationship with WoW.

    No one was shot, though.

But it was a very hard lesson.

That said, at least I finally got to play an MMO until I was literally full of it.

I'm with @DMKano on this. I guess when you reach certain age you have to plan your fun. Although this kind of reminded me of Monica from Friends. Let's have some organized fun!!
Also, when you reach a certain age you begin recognizing games for what they are instead of jumping on their hype train. You don't get involved in the first place. It's a great way to save time and money!

Thankfully in the past ten years I've only fallen for one game hype. I guess I was having a Mulder moment.

actually i play MMO's ever since the release of the orriginal EQ..

And this feeling of having to log on several times a day i can only remember from the orriginal EQ... and then not even in this way...

The more i think about it, its the side systems that are time consuming, logging on to do some cooking, feed your workers or do some processing or even just to set up your AFK fisher with a new pole...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
