Clearly they're going on with this plan... even though they had a whole other thread asking if you'd support the Kickstarter and it was almost unanimously a No vote.
Whatever.
Make the game then sell the game. That's how game development has worked for years. I'm not "speculating" on games. Especially since too many of them are trash... or they add "new" content that I didn't purchase later on making the game take even longer to hit shelves.
whole other thread? they?
I started that and I'm not staff so it wasn't "they" and it wasn't "unanimous"... 43% voted they'd not back and/or wait for pre-orders. The rest who voted, voted they'd support. There was also multitude of posts back and forth from people on both sides of the fence and I know other's who didn't vote as they don't have a MMORPG account but just read it but have talked to them and are going to back this.
As for 'new' content adding. They know all that is going into the launch, they trimmed it down to a core set of features to make it playable at 900K and then stretch goals (if met) will mean those features not being worked on for launch CAN get worked on, otherwise things will come in post-launch sometime after it is playable. Try follow the game and information a bit more, there is a LOT of answers and information in the QnAs.

Support the game and get items? Its bullshit, it takes away the fun part to optain it and play the game on equal terms with other players, "advantage to the shopaholics. Make the game, if its good, then take my money. kickstarter is as dumb as valentines day.
Ah yes ... but those items you get?
They ... can ... be ... lost!
So you don't get them perma-keep. If you want to use them you need to have them with you, if your fail and get incapped, or Coup De Grace... you're gonna lose it. As with anything in this world that they're creating.

Waste of money for any investing in it. The developer has grandiose ideas about the games design without a clue how he is going to implement such a complex design. A small staff should never even attempt to take on a design like they have talked about in multiple threads here. If you are so set on investing in a game, pick almost anything else and you will have a better chance. It is almost a sure bet this game will never see the light of day.
Actually he does have a clue and is very knowledgeable.
If you actually followed the gsme instead of flaming you would know that!

If you don't want to support it then don't. No one is making you part with your cash.
If you've had past issues with kickstarter then fine - suggest what you want about that.
The point is that no one has any credible experience with CoE or the developers to give an informed judgment that intends to influence others from making up their own mind.
At this point any such judgment about the developers or their intent is misinformed and speculation. It is up to them to convey by their demonstrations and presentations what CoE is going to be about. This includes their presence on forums and for publication interviews.
From what I've observed to date, this presence and interaction is appropriate. I have the impression they are engaging with their audience. If you do not want to be part of that audience then you don't have to.
As to the game itself I am personally excited by so much of the intended content and the many aspects. I love sandbox instead of themepark. I love classes and character development. I want for guild dynamics that don't mean you must be in a huge guild to have a rewarding player experience.
My first impression is that CoE has a great influence of past traditional "old school" games and has suggested they will adapt those elements to present day player expectations.
I'll be contributing and if that means being an investor with some benefit for trusting the vision then I'm fine with that as well.
I'm not really happy about the "action combat" with dodge, parry, etc. These old reflexes ain't what they used to be and I don't play these games for that. Personally I don't think the whole "action" thing even goes with the rest of what they're planning.
I have spent around $ 5k on kickstarter and have nothing to show for it. I am done supporting liars and con artist trying to get rich off high school and college game design class projects. You want my money them create a business plan and seek investor dollars. Investors keep game devs honest, on target, and on deadline.

Imagine being a ganker with a 3 month "headstart" prior to launch. THAT is the current plan for the Headstart...
Not 3 days, not 3 weeks, but 2-3 MONTHS!

@Payton34 Yes Yes the dev of this game is a special little snowflake so we shouldn't judge him by the way all the devs have failed over the last years.
We should ignore all that has happened and just hand over our money.
I am watching this game because of their sandbox concepts, but..... not sure I like the approach to magic use in the game. Will watch and see what happens.

Actually they have no clue, if you had followed some of the threads on this game it would be obvious to you. It is a wonderful design from a player's perspective and a horrid one from a programmers. Perhaps something like this can be made in the future, but not with the toolsets we have today.
To say I would be shocked if this game ever sees the light of day would be an understatement. Back the game and find out if you have money to throw away.
