We often heard people said that MMORPG is bad, because it has that and this. Now tell us, what is your ideal MMORPG, how it should be and how do you want to play it.
1. Theme and the world - Medieval Fantasy
I like this theme because in the medieval times, the nature are fresh, still untouched. The jungle is green and full with wild animals. The river and ocean is crystal clear.
The place where i can log in and feel soothing and relaxed. i love how black desert online and archeage choose this theme as well, the game is fun to watch, and pleasing to the eyes. Full with green tress and cool looking medieval npc/town.
2. Arts and graphic - Realistic
Realistic arts will give the game a long life term. Whatever new game comes, it will still manage to compete.
Realistic doesnt need to be insanely high graphic requirement. It can also support low end gaming laptop with lowest setting (lowest textures and others like archeage). But high end rig can push it even more, Where max setting game can reach like 4k-8k textures like the witcher 3 and black desert online.
I love black desert online arts. This is what every MMORPG should be in term of world graphic. Realistic nature, not cartoony looking game like wildstar and wow (wow has its prime time, but its time for next gen realistic graphic era)
3. Character creation.
I prefer a rich and realistic character creation where i can customize all part of the bodies.
I want breast slider (natural looking boobs from cup A to H), butt slider, body types and much more. But this thing i mention is what lacking in most MMORPG today.
For face, i prefer a realistic preset faces. Since human face is not that easy to create, developer can just 3d printed real attractive human face and use it as a face presets.
For starting give players 10 preset faces, where player can customize and pick and choose. From head type, nose eyes, mouth and create a totally hybrid faces.
Developer can add more attractive human face presets in a cash shop later. I want attractive human especially female. I dont any ugly asian girl with plastic surgery face like we see in black desert online (that loli short female asian class)
This for human race, for non human looking face, im fine with anything since i never play other race except human
4. Gameplay.
I. Clothes and Armor
I want my character to have a noob clothes (like ragnarok online, gw2, archeage, teso) as starter. Not like black desert that give cool clothes at lv 1. Heck give my character wear bra and panties at starting.
I get better armor as im leveling. I can also get bombastic cool looking armor in cash shop. This give more immersion since RPG is all about sense of character progression.
Armor can be bought at NPC and crafted. Same level crafted armor/weapon has better stats than in the NPC shop. Example NPC sell level 2 dagger with 10 attack, if play craft a level 2 dagger, the attack is 12. This to motivate crafting.
II. Combat.
- I like combat in GW2, teso and archeage. The move is natural and not too flashy unlike what we seen in black desert online.
I hate bombastic move like we see in black desert online. I prefer moderate fighting move like in archeage, teso, gw2.
Target systems - For targetting systems, i like both tab target and FPS. But for now i choose FPS since its more accurate and easy for developer (tab target need hella coding.)
I still love tab target and if possible, i hope a game with both target system (is it possible?). Tab target give me more relaxed casual play that i love.
III. Classes
I prefer like TES V: Skyrim. There is no class. Clothes just a fashion. Player can wield any weapon.
But this sandbox classes must have the basic rpg classes like Assassin, mage, knight, healer, necromancer, ranger, paladin and much more like archeage where we have insane variety of classess.
When i said clothes just fashion, we still need some immersion. Full plate armor still has high defense compared to medium assassin armor. I want more variety in this where my mage can wear a full plate armor and using magic.
Assassin wear medium armor because its easier to dodge and stealth. But of course there is assassin that wear full plate armor, since clothes is just fashion.
IV. World interaction.
- I want parkour system. Its a skills. Higher skill player can climb higher building/mountain.
- Housing. Better house give buff to player that increase stats.
- I dont mind loading screen (like gw2), but if there is no loading screen is even better. I just want an optimize game. No staggering, smooth and no player suddently popping out in front of my face every 5 min.
V. Freedom to do anything.
Do whatever you want, you can start leveling by killing monster or start crafting right away.
Player can work with NPC as cheff, blacksmith, tailor, jeweler, etc and get paid. Yes player get salary and will be given items to start crafting.
The advantage is this, the crafting level will increase but the combat leveling will not increase.
V. Travelling.
- No fast travel.
- Auto path like we see in black desert online (pearl abyss so genius...!!!). I want auto path place to place and NPC to NPC.
Comments
Not just that, boss monster and mvp monster live in every leveling map. Meaning lv 1-10 map has a lv 100 mvp monster and lv 10 monster boss.
It have beautiful graphics, so i can sit on the grass in a hill to be amazed by the sunset and the sunrise. Is it too much to ask for boats so i can sail oceans and go fishing for a while? Different kinds of monsters are spreaded around the world, not divided by levels, they are there because they are part of that habitat.
No instances, no loading screens. Skill based pvp, gear doesn't matter, or matter temporarily in a equal way, like league of legends.
Funny and modern soundtrack, played by a band, like cabal online, not just that epic medieval classic songs that everyone mutes the first moment they get into the game.
tl:dr it will never happen
No matter how creative an idea or how well you incorporate discovery into your game, a few days in and all information is wiki leaked and nothing is exciting anymore, just copy and paste gaming.
So imo the toughest chore to creating a unique great game is to figure out how you can truly give each player their OWN life within the world and not have all 2 million chasing the exact same linear questing system.
To start we need NPC's with AI that react differently to each player,it needs more depth than a simple 1-100 favor system. We need resources to disappear and only come back as would be expected, a tree many years later, crops perhaps a few weeks-months.We need mobs to have several AI so they are not totally predictable.Red carpet and somersault, backflips type combat is nonsense and i don't like it.
Pretty simple really,we need developers with common sense and willing to put in the thought and effort to create a great game,no one person can do it alone.I could never post my perfect game or a game i love to play because gaming needs a LOT of thought and effort put into it in MANY areas and so far devs are NOT giving us triple A effort.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
As for your points about AI, i agree with you.. i was thinking of maybe giving bosses or stronger enemies a pool of maybe 25 skills or so. they only use 6 or 7 of them or however many you chose, but its a different combinations of the 25 skills every time. no just this set of 5 or this set of 5, but completely random which skills they are able to use
I've always liked a low-magic medieval fantasy setting. Something along the lines of a Game of Thrones type of theme. Magic totally exists, but it's rare and a lot of people probably don't believe it exists.
2. Arts and graphic
Stylized realism. I agree, I don't much like the excessively cartoony artstyles of WoW and Wildstart etc. I wouldn't want a completely photorealistic style either. It doesn't age as well as a stylized appearance, because we'll be able to make something that looks even more photorealistic in a few years anyway.
Something kind of like Dishonored or even Alice Madness Returns perhaps. It has a bit of comical exaggeration, but there's a certain degree of realism in the design.
A deep and thorough character creation is almost a must. Your character is your identity in the game, you want to be able to stand out. So just.. a good bunch of options to customize your character.
I'd also love something like they have in City of Heroes, where you can change your body type and posture
I wouldn't want to focus on having pretty preset faces though
Stuff like heavy metal armour would make you virtually invulnerable against slashing damage (swords etc), but still vulnerable to blunt damage from maces and heavier pole weapons. Wearing heavy armour would also drain your stamina a lot faster than wearing lighter armour. Stuff like that.
Combat
A mix of Dark Souls, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and Dark Messiah etc. When it comes to combat, focus should be on player skill and not character level. So in theory, a level 1 could beat a level 100 if they were good enough.
No classes, just different skill lines for different archetypes with plenty of room to customize your own build. Hard to balance, but screw that, it'll be possible.
World interaction.
And then I'll just agree with this.
In conjunction with the combat system, fighting monsters will be largely skill based with strategic elements to it with the proper preparations and so on. You wouldn't want to only bring a sword to go dragon hunting, you bring a bloody ballista.
I guess creatures should spawn wherever it made sense, with more dangerous ones roaming around the further away you get from the safety of towns.
Naval combat
Fuck yes.
That, combined with puzzle/skill/timing minigames, where your performance affects the quality of crafted items.
I'd prefer the old-school separated servers to have room for PVE, PVP and RP servers respectively.
PvP: DAoC, large open world for PvE with open and instanced dungeons. With a large separate PvP map that means something. I think the blighted land would make an awesome PvP map. Would love to see the followers of the Dark One be a faction.
Classes: lots of freedom. Designing skills and classes to the level it would be sandbox in feel.
Housing and guild halls: meaningful to the game and part of PvP. Taking them out should reward your faction and the landscape of the game should change from player interaction.
Combat: Hybrid of tab targeting and soft targeting. Old school trinity. Tank, Support/CC and DPS.
Black Desert = Crafting + Side Activities + Open World + Graphics
Everquest = Group Content PvE
The Secret World = Questing
EvE = PvP System and Skill System
Archeage = Naval Warfare
거북이는 목을 내밀 때 안 움직입니다
I missed open world without instance , player vendors and the social . Old game still fine , but i want something better .
Simple, EQ1 with updated graphics and majority of players online during my play times
Divorce item form from item functionality. Make the stats portable. Make the character's abilities more important than the character's gear. (i.e.--You're playing a character, not an Armor Set.)
Art... that one's a really tough call, so many parts and pieces of various titles I'd like incorporated. Just give me solid art direction and cohesive graphic design. And leave out this years' crop of whizbang trendy stylistic toys, just to piss the GPU salesmen off.
Lore. I'd like you to actually hire writers, and continue to pay them, Lore needs to make a comeback. Yes, it does matter.
Customer Experience. Remember those guys, from 1990? Hire some of them back, too.
If you have to live without "Massively" in order to achieve some of these goals, I'm fine with that. The Most Popular Game of the Year can suck its way into oblivion as all of the previous year's games have done.
Don't try to Make Money. Try to make a Great Game.
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.
Elves, Orcs, Halflings, Dwarves, Humans, Centaurs, etc. I've always thought they should make an MMO with a sort of circular land mass that is HUGE, like takes hours to ride across on horseback (or whatever mount you desire). This landmass is split up mainly along racelines. Centaurs, Humans, and Halfings around the center of rolling hills, and plains. Wood Elves in the west forests. High Elves stay to themselves to the northwest on and island off the coast. Orcs, Ogres, and Goblins tend to reside in the southeastern swamps.
The story of the MMO would be that the Senate was just killed by some evil race. The Senate was the ruling order of the landmass, with representatives from each kingdom. The world is in turmoil and war has broken out among the kingdoms.
2. Art and Graphics - Realistic
I don't know how they do it, but Black Desert Online has some of the most beautiful vistas and art in any MMO. It doesn't take up hardly any resources tor run either. Something like Black Desert, but more western style.
3. Character Creation.
One of the best things about this MMO would be the variety. In character creation you would be able to change just about every aspect of your character to some extent. Fat, muscular, thin, etc. your body and face is fully customizable using scroll bars, like Black Desert, just even more control over it. You could add horns, hair, etc. using a paste system or airbrush (hehe hairbrush) system.
One of your first options would be to pick a race:
Humans: Great at many skills, also great diplomats, warriors and traders. Reside throughout the world.
Dwarves: Great physical warriors, smiths and miners. Reside mainly in the mountains and underground cities.
Orcs: Great warriors with extremely high stamina. Resides mainly in the southeastern swamps.
Wood Elves: Great archers and druids. Resides in the western woods in treetop cities.
Centuars: Mobile warriors, fastest race on foot. Resides in the central plains.
High Elves: Great at many skills, especially magic. Resides mainly on an island to the northwest,
Goblins: Shrewd traders and craftsmen. Resides with Orcs.
Ogres: Giant brutish warriors. Resides with Orcs.
Kathar: Agile, nomadic, cat people from the southwestern deserts, great thieves, archers, and assassins.
Canin: Ferocious, Strong and quick wolfman race from the western woods. Great warriors and shamans.
Gnomes: Great craftsmen and tinkers, easily learns new crafting recipes. Resides with Dwarves.
Halflings: Great at many skills and stealth. Resides with humans.
...And many more. I'm thinking like at least 30 races.
Next you would choose your "class". This just helps set up your starting equipment and skills. You can actually level up any skill you wish, just by using that skill. Pick up a sword and swing it, you gain EXP with swords... There should also be a lot of classes to choose from.
Then you choose your looks, biography/backstory, starting city, etc.
4. Gameplay.
You should start with some minor gear. If you chose a paladin, you will have some platemail a mace. A warrior would be equipped with platemail, sword, and shield. An archer would come equipped with a bow, daggers, and leather armor.
Combat is a major part of any MMO. I might be the only one, but I enjoy the old fashioned tab targeting. The problem I have with "action" combat is that it always feels very repetitive and most skills feel the same.
Housing should be done like in Black Desert. There will be buildings around the world that you can purchase to live in. Once purchased you can decorate it however you wish.
Jobs...Yes your character should be able to get a job. You could work with an NPC blacksmith and they'll give you a quest to go get ore or craft something, based on your skillset. You could work as a mercenary, bounty hunter, or even as a town guard. You get quests to go kill some local rats that have been plagueing the town (of course 10 at a time hahaha).
There will be many ways to get experience and it comes in two forms. You will get experience for your experience pool, and then there is experience you will get for a skill. Like above if you join an NPC blacksmith for your job, when you complete a quest for him, you will get some experience for your experience pool, but a majority will be for mining, smelting, blacksmithing, or whatever the skill that the quest required you to use. Your experience pool can be used to level up any skill you wish.
like archeage, i feel like being force to do. why i need to kill 10? why i only get exp from that quest if i talk to that npc? why if i dont talk to that npc, i kill 50 rats the exp still far below from 10 rats from the npc quest?
i dislike exp based quest. i think all quest should only reward reasonable ammount gold. no gear reward, no exp reward, because logically, why the heck the npc give u good gear everytime u complete quest? it unimmersive.
