    Why am I not surprised.

They sell things like this on Amazon.. generic VR sets.   I would imagine with that price point they'll become more popular with gaming enthusiasts that don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a headset.

and on a slightly different subject Google is about to release next week a replacement for the 'cardboard' that is supposed to be better than GearVR

And in another bit of unexpected news... water... it is wet.

    =P

Actually in all honesty it is nice to see where the breaking point between quality and price go. =) I guess you can push prices down if all you do is reverse engineer and slap i together =P

This have been a good conversation

Well, if china succeeds with $130 dollar VR headsets that can only be a positive thing for consumers and drive the competition to lower their prices. China rules the universe :awesome:

true but it does depend on the product.

Chinese moto scooters are known to be cheap and horribly built (I say this as someone who is in the motorcycle/scooter community somewhat for about 5 years)

BUT if they think they can build one of the same quality as a Rift that right on!

Sure, but it's double the price of the same gear purchased elsewhere. But you did get exactly what you shelled out (too much) for. And it's end-to-end proprietary, yay!

yeah that is why I said 'execpt for Apple'...ha!

so basically unless Oculus is going to be like Apple the price-to-quality is going to be what we pay for

So just where are the Oculus's being manufactured?

actually indirectly that is exactly the point I am making. how can china make its own equipment for less? well rules of world wide manufacturing suggests by cutting cost on quality. OR Oculus is actually Apple

let me just dive to the end point here.

is this OP and others suggesting that this $130 VR headset is as good quality in most respects as an Oculus Rift?
I just want to understand the 'undertone' that I feel is being suggested here.

    It's quite simple actually

Its called a  "Profit Margin" and its made every time a product changes hands. Also Oculus can not undersell their retailers.

Although I have no doubt an Oculus will be of a better quality, the difference in quality is most likely a lot slimmer than you might believe.

I've ordered direct from China and quality is a gamble.  Sometimes it's good but usually it feels like half the quality of the original, or less.

so I know a thing or two about the scooter industry (as in motor scooters).
Chinese motorscooters are very well known to be the cheapest there is but also the worst quality.

I think taking it on faith of a description of basically 'a VR headset' and then to extend to think that it means its as good as an HTC Vive by default is ....frankly...stupid. All speakers are not created equal

it might be, Oculus and Vive might be the worlds worst offenders of upcharging tech, but its unlikely.

What is more likely is that the Oculus and the Vive both are just considerably better than this device....shall we compare all specs?

    WOW!

    with this:
    http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2016/05/whats-the-story-with-the-cheap-chinese-vr-headsets/
many VR headsets pooping up and with Oculus and HTC Vive clearly making a 80% profit because their models clearly cost the same the trend toward lot of money being made and success around the VR market seems to be happening....?

which is why inspection is important.

cardboard is not as good as Vive nor is Gear VR even though they are all 'VR Headsets'
