You saved me the work..  Just compare things like the trees between the two games. UO's trees are 10x better (and not blurry btw) I can go on and on pointing things out. But the fact is most of the graphics in Linkrealms look blurry (except for the characters and items).  You do not have that issue in UO.

The one thing I do give Linkrealms is that movement is much more fluid feeling (minus the running in place). But that is also because all of the zones in Linkrealms is super small where UO has a vast open world without the zones.

Having played the game for some hours now. The graphics are extremely bad.. Even by late 90's standards. Ultima Online looks better then most of the artwork in Linkrealms.
You either never played any game from 90s or forgot how they look.

I would argue that UO looks better. Plus has years of content. So again what does this clone offer that UO does not? Everyone is quick to jump on a game if it is a WOW clone but if it is another game the fans get defensive. All is fair game. This is a clone and I cannot see what this offers that UO does not. Other than being F2P. Which in my mind is not a positive.
Actually no that is with updated engine that was released later, here is how it looked in 1999:

    You guys suck ass.

All of you. For one you have jaded memories of UO's graphics. As a legit ordered the CD's for the beta played it on my 486 then i got a p500...ooo anyhow...The graphics were blurry even then. I know because I used to used to dye my clothes to match the tree's and lurk in the shadows for other players outside of gates. I did this successfully because of the stupid blurry tree's not showing my name or char (Pre tram baby).

Anyhow you guys are comparing the post 3rd dawn engine (A engine designed nearly about the same time as this game was being talked about here).

UO's Graphics were terrible even by the standards of that day. We just accepted it because A). It was better than Meridan and The Realm and B). We were on 56k modems or DSL at best.

As for the UE4 engine..I take it you've not worked in it.. It's not so easy to do a proper look. Even the best land sculptors on EPIC have many problems with the engine. Hence why literally every game made in UE4 as of now pretty much has the same grass look...bland is the word. Every game is bland. Even my favorite game Paragon.

GJ pasting the updated UO graphics that were released around 2012 and calling them 90s graphics.

Hey everyone look I found some old 1980s graphics...

Ah so that was you that ruined my UO experience way back when!

Having played UO since it hit the shelf and now this game.....I don't understand where all the hate is coming from....it feels like a throw back for sure.....but it's also its own thing.....

Shoot I just got a bunch of buddies that all used to play UO  together to try this and we love it.....15$ one time fee for some content I haven't played and a major dose of nostalgia....

Bet most negative comments haven't even played this game...
Why do you think we ask questions? Please, enlighten us! What do you find that isn't in UO? Why play this game instead of UO?
Haha, obviously the real answer is that anyone that waits a little while will be able to play for free.... I might even give it a test run at that point but tbh you get what you pay for, something that f2p games specialize in.

If you play for graphics i will tell you right away stay away this is not a game for you. If you can get past graphics i think you will find that Linkrealms has a lot to offer.

My advice is try it you just might be pleasantly surprised if you play it for 20h+ at least.

I play for graphics *and* gameplay. In this day and age, there is zero reason (for me) to choose one over the other. I simply only play games that are good (subjectively to me) on both.

And 20 hours? .. you are kidding me. I am not interested in games that are fun in the first 15 min. There are plenty.

No wipe for a launch?? WTF maybe if I had known this before I would have joined already... who doesn't wipe for launch? That is just retarded.

Agreed. With things like CryEngine and UE4 free it amazes me that more companies like this are not using them. Perhaps it is lack of skill in programing that scares them off from it. Imagine a UO like game in UE4. That would garner a ton of attention I would think. Not one that looks like UO already.
Maybe it was a time factor.  Sometimes when a project starts it takes so long to finish it's behind the times when it's done.  Perhaps they didn't want to update and put the project further behind.  Just a thought.

Perhaps. However, if that's the chase they didn't just fall behind. They feel 20 years back into the past.

You missed the point. Try again.
Not only that, Linkrealms has been in development and was playable before the Engine update that that UO video shows ;)
No one said that video was from 1990's
The whole point was these are two videos recorded this year of both games.
LR copies UO to a fault. If people want UO just play UO.
Not a years in development, underfunded knockoff of it.
The game is closer to UO 10 years ago than UO today, a time in which most UO players preferred by a large margin.  In addition to this UO is still charging $10 a month while showing no interest in continuing to support the game.  Lastly UO also has went the way of the P2W model microtransaction in addition to your monthly fee.

I'd rather play a game that may be a knock off that is loved and still being developed, instead of what EA views as a piece of trash that they are trying to skimp every last penny they can out of it, in it's dying days.

I would agree with that if Linkrealms had not been around for years already. This is not a new game. People started playing in what? 2011, 2009? Maybe earlier. MMORPG even did an interview in 2011.
They rebooted last year. Part of that reboot could have been (should have been?) an engine update or transfer all together. It would help the game. It is not all about graphics fair enough but it makes it hard to justify in this day and age with easy access to engines and tools to not make a game that looks decent if not great.
I had this exact concern.  Apparently it went belly under in 2014 and got bought up and new developers came on board and have been moving forward ever since

I have used it and if you code your own foliage you can do amazing things with UE4 like Ark does. No one looking at Ark or Scalebound or Gears of War 4 is saying "Oh that grass is ass"

Besides, if that is the case use CryEngine like Wolcen does.
I use it all the time.

It is not jaded memories it is calling it like you see it. Look, it is fine that you and others like the game, the mechanics and the graphics. Some of us do not. It is mid year 2016. I want a game that at least looks like it was made in this decade. Not too much to ask.
Another note, it does not matter when the UO updated engine was designed and released. That was not the point what so ever. The point was clearly stated by multiple people and it still stands.
What does this clone offer that UO does not already provide?  I showed two clips from both games recorded in 2016. To me UO looks better and has more content and better options for play.
Shards Online is a better game to put up as an evolution of the UO lineage as it is being developed by ex UO developers. Linkrealms is not evolving the UO formula, it is copying it.
Point that was stated is that Linkrealms looks worse than 90s games and that does NOT stand. Like i said they are either teens who never played 90s games or forgot how they look. It is normal for people to think that games in the past looked better than they actually do because at that time they where amazing. Hell i remember when playing The Elder Scrolls 3 i thought this looks jaw dropping but now when i go back its freaking ugly as hell, but even then its still my fav Elder Scrolls because gameplay > graphics.
