I think you have to put some more details into your posts if you want to do a good PR job.
I believe there is a difference between good pr and kissing ass. Don't demand people kiss your ass simply because they are raising money. Who cares if he didn't fully explain himself. Only people he needs to explain himself to is backers and this website is full of unknowns. Some of the people here are being harshly critical without one ounce of evidence. You want something to be critical about go look at CIG.
First off, that's just disgusting. Cats are horrid, rotten, disloyal little demons. --------------------
As to the thread, I think the main problem some are having is the way he responds, not his promises.
The problem here is that he's an impassioned developer, and this project his baby. Which leads to alot of overly emotional and unprofessional posts/comments/replies.
Whenever you have a full-on developer involved with the community, you are bound to get cringe-worthy postings. This isn't unique to CoE. It's a part of most any game that has developers interacting with the community. However, when you are: the face of the project; the CEO; the most vocal PR guy, there's sort of an obligation to post as a professional and not as an emotional defendant.
Timeframes and all that other junk aside, he's taken on that public figurehead role and he really needs to act as that and not as a wounded, insulted designer.
Except for that comment about cats, i wholeheartedly agree with this whole post.
It makes me very anxious as a huge supporter of this game that Caspian has taken it upon himself to personally reply to what he perceives as attacks on the game, because he is so passionate about it.
Its a double edged sword: i'm glad he is so passionate and is so willing to throw himself completely at this game, and that gives me confidence in his dedication to following through and pledging to his kickstarter.
On the other hand, when he gets defensive on the CoE forums (or here), it does not help the image of SS and that's why I wish he would avoid directly responding to the forums to individual people.
His active involvement in the CoE irc is awesome because he's a real person and you can really just talk to him, but I think that lends itself to this same problem; he's too involved in the community to separate himself from it -- a problem i never thought I'd see a game developer have.
If you like what you see like I did, back the game. Don't like it? Don't Simple
the problem we see only drawing and empty dream
give me damn demo.. if the guys spend 500k on it already ( with changing the engine 4 times in less that 1 years ) im sure he got something else to show !!
unreal engine graphic are not that expensive ... lol...
3 engines, not 4 and the first was more a test but finding nothing good about it. Moved to CryEngine pretty quick but with limited community support for what they were doing migrated to Unreal Engine and have gotten more done in the same time-frame of the original.
It's also more than just graphics, it's tying the client mechanics back into their server-side engine mechanics to support the client mechanics.

Game developers dont respond to the rank and file detractors. Weve already seen it from Jeromy as well. What I see when they do that is a lack of professionalism. They want to fancy themselves rockstars when they havent done anything outside talk. I would rather have men of action developing a game, the talk is why you hire a marketing coordinator. Advertising, like talk, is cheap. No, it literally isnt expensive for most companies to advertise. Developing a game however is a very expensive venture.
If people cant look into these warning signs and see the obvious problems, nothing is going to make them pay attention. But the more business savvy observer wont be so easily fooled.
Well, you know what they say. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If our ancestors were as cautious as some people are proporting to be in their efforts to put others off the game, we'd all still be living in caves and eating berries plucked out of the dust.
I hope the team manage to pull this off and I'm willing to throw some money their way to help give them a fighting chance.
lunawisp was my peacebringer in City of Heroes. She lives on, in memory, as my gaming id
I still love the idea of this game, weather it is fully good enough for my liking, who knows but i still like the game's potential. Since i nor anyone else fully understand how or each idea will be implemented,we really should give it the time.
The ONLY problem i have is the constant use of the term "investment".NONE of these kickstarter people are investing anything, they are instead giving away FREE money, there is a massive difference between investing and donations.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

You guys never stop with your comparisons which are so totally off.
If you want a cavemen comparison it would be like this:
I'm the greatest hunter of the tribe and I tell you I just need one more hunter and then 8 guys who will paint drawings of the epic hunt on our cave walls - now you people of the other tribes hand over your shells and we 2 will have killed the mammoth before the sun sets!

I mean ... if you want mammoth burgers... somebody's gotta go ahead and be the first guy brave enough to try and kill a mammoth.
Give a defined timeline and at the slightest delay, which happens ALL the time on projects, and the shit hits the storm. I mean even now, with just 1 date given, that of release, people are throwing fits in practically every post about the timeline.
I am happy with the continual Design Journals being released, the regular community live feeds, the regular interviews with DM21 Gaming channel and the updates on the KS page. I think it is waaaaaay to early to be complaining already but this site is great for negativity overload.
Sorry.. I disagree. One of the biggest and most common concerns I see on here and elsewhere is about the unrealistic timeline. Trying to criticize the qualifications of those asking the question is not an answer.
For me this is the MAIN sticking point and will pretty much determine if I keep my 2 accounts or cancel when the KS ends. No I will not hold them to the day, but I do not think that asking for a general schedule is too much when they in turn are asking for a million bucks.
While I understand about unrealistic timelines I really feel that the guys who have been working on the design of the game for the last 10 years, who are currently working on the game and who will be doing the work are in the best position to determine what timeline is most suitable.
With all due respect, you are just a nobody on the internet and these guys are making the game. In a battle of who to believe, you lose.
So ten years of development and all they have to show for it is a 1 vs 1 demo, seconds of walking around in an empty world, concept art, and ideas? Interesting...

And whilst I disagree and don't particularly like zultra I respect what he has managed in the game.
Won't stop me trying to kill him though....
