As far as i have learned magic will be very rare and very few will learn it.
This make me wonder how PvP will be without it, only using melee becomes boring fast.
Magic adds to number of variables being used in PvP and add to needed skills in 1vs1 and especially in team fights.

Sorry I'm treating you as a negative person rather than an enquirer and that is my bad.
I believe it's because the developers wanted to go with a more low fantasy based game and hence no magic. The magic there is would be like the rumoured warlocks, witches and sorcerers of the historical times.
People to be feared and hunted down. Now we know in our world there is no magic but what if there had been and these people were real?

I'm intrigued by the idea of magic being rare and that's part of what draws me to this concept.
Hit, parry and use a bow seems rather simple. More options to choose from add to PvP.
It's quite obvious that CoE is not going after a mainstream audience, so it's not a game that will follow "the most popular" designs for combat and skills.
Still needs a lot of work in my opinion. Even if they wanted magic in the game, it doesn't appear that they have the manpower/funds/whatever to put it in.

This site cracks me up sometimes...
The Developer has described fighting these folks as similar to a boss mob.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out. On one hand I really like the concept of limited magic and making it feel special. On the other, it's likely to be pretty unbalancing.
Time will tell.

They have asked for money and hype has begun.... its time to be compared to everything and get used to criticism every step of the way....
Its probably best not to even talk about it and forget about it for at least another year then see how far they have come along but nope, excited people will keep mentioning it, and people will keep pointing out how far it is from ready.

You can continue to make invalid criticisms but expecting anything other then ridicule to making such comments is not really constructive and just muddies the water in having any meaningful conversation.
And World of Tanks is OK but if only it had magic...
And while 7 days to die is a fun zombie survival game...again no magic.....
Even if you assume there is no magic (which is incorrect. It is rare but possible) then I don't understand why it would affect your desire to play a certain game. Let me state it again clearly....there IS magic, it is just rare.
I don't like Minecraft, or the Sims or Medieval total war, but not because they don't have magic.
Sure the game is in it's infant start but reading developers thoughts on for example magic give me a red light from backing this game.
Fun and playerskill demanding PvP is for manyPvP players the most important part of PvP and giving that feature to only 5% of the community will deliver a PvP balance problem.
Why give a magic heal option to 5% of the community? Why give a magic area damage spell to 5% of the community?
Balanced PvP where a player feel that it is his learned player skills that was the decider he won a 1vs1 or a 10vs10 is most important in competitive gaming.
Making only 5% of the playerbase magic users will not give the players a feeling they achieved something good in the combat session they just won, it was just the upper head of having magic users in their guild that gave them the victory.
Game mechanisms from developers that support such imbalance to PvP is worth discussing here. Discussing round and square holes isn't.
Magic should be a part of the game both for the fun of it and for opening up a more player skill demanding PvP.
Edit: Can you explain to me why you like the idea that only 5% of the players in this game will be able to learn magic to use in PvP?
You don't see the balance issue this will give to PvP?
Why give a few players these overpowered avatars?
In fantasy MMO games i always enjoyed the team fights complexity with good magic healers and timed spells like in UO. Just using a sword/shield or bow don't give me a feeling i should back this game. It is rather a red light that tell me the most important feature, a fun and player skill demanding PvP, won't be found in this game.
Of course i might be wrong and i hope so but i won't pledge before i get to learn more about how PvP will turn out. The little seen so far seems very boring and not adding much player skill to PvP.
Chronicles of Elyria, in concept, has a very Game of Thrones-ish feel to it. If your'e someone who enjoys that show, then you very well may enjoy this game if they are able to deliver on their ideas.
I don't like the idea of how magic will be in this game though.
If PVP using Magic is your only focus in this game then you will be disappointed. You should just move onto another game. Souldbound studios is not trying to sell solely to the PVP crowd or the Magic Fantasy Crowd. They are trying to create complete world that everyone can work together no matter on there playstyle. The people who have backed the game are doing so based on the idea and concepts of the game as a whole. This includes the parts that they believe are Good and accept the parts they think are Bad. If people are too narrow minded to see this then they should wait until the game is released to judge it. Soulbound studios does not require you to become a backer to play, they will gladly let people play the game upon release for double the price they are offering it now.
1. it isn't 5%, 5% is the percentage of players who may get a talent. Then there is a rather large number of talents(like 100+ or some such) It's assumed that the talent is randomly selected from the pool.
2. Jeromy is under the impression that giving a small number of players extra goodies will somehow = 'story'. He seems to be thinking 'gamer drama' = 'story' Yeah I don't get it either. Plus there is that little nugget that all NPCs autoattack any player manifesting a talent.
