"Nvidia Bribing the Tech Sites for showing Nvidia Favor is real.
" Below you will read what they think the reviewer Tom's Hardware US, Chris Angelini, the reference heat sink of Radeon R9 290x and GeForce 1080.
Review
of R9 290x : " You're free to manually specify Certainly higher maximum
fan speeds than the 40% I used, but it's pretty telling That even AMD's
Uber mode stops at 55%. Again, we're dealing with a reference cooler
That makes a lot of noise once it gets going . " In Quiet Mode the fan
produces 45.2 decibels.
Review of the 1080 GTX : " It's a
nice broad whooshing / airflow noise, and the fan's motor can never
really be picked out. This is a lot better than the cheap axial fans
That AMD used to put on its reference design s". The fan of GTX1080
produces 46.8 decibels.
According to Angelini, the 46,8db of GTX1080FE are less noisy of 45,2db of R9 290x."
No offense but did you just realize this? almost all games and tech journalism is tainted. Money, access and favors rule all. Ideals go out the window after a few years when you realize how much money you can make being a sellout.
Even people you can trust will usually succumb later on as they become more popular and as such get more pressure put on them.

I am aware, but you see that theres still people with agendas that will defend this fiercly (2 just in this thread)
You can't trust tech review sites because random unknown review site X has called-out well-known and trusted review site Y !
Lol, yeah, riiiight...
Of course there's no chance that random unknown review site X might be trying to become tomorrow's well-known and trusted review site X (using any means possible) !
But hey, every internet-pro knows you never trust the popular version of anything !
All tech review sites have a bias, to various degrees at least, its probably more pronounced however, if it conflicts with the bias of the person viewing the tech review site.

Bits n Chips has existed longer than you even imagine and they dont care they are enthusiast site. Thats why they dont fear to write articles like this they arent sponsored by anyone

You are welocme to report any BS like this, in fact i encourage people to report any BS like this.

So, quiet mode is during torture tests?
Sure.
Again, here:
AMD's noise level was 45.2 decibels on quiet mode. On 100% test the card reached 72.9 dB(A).
"Right upfront: the cooler's moderate stock setting and the GPU's high
target temperature make for a relatively quiet card, so long as you
don't mess with it."
Quiet Mode (Default)
idle: 33.4 dB(A)
load: 45.2 dB(A)
your agendas and false information have no power here. You can go and spread your crap somewhere else.
lol, and AGAIN you prove you have no clue what youre talking about (aka hidden agenda)
45,2 db WAS in torture test, 72 was on 100% fan. Its right there in the article for anyone to read it.
Unfortunately youre either totally dumb or have hidden agenda and spread false information.
Why don't you just provide the quote from the article where it says what you're claiming?
rofl its right there in the table. dont play dumb now.
Quiet Mode (Default)
33.4 dB(A)
45.2 dB(A)
Uber Mode (Default)
34.1 dB(A)
51.2 dB(A)
+25% Power Limit + 70 °C Target Temperature Fan Speed up to 100%
34.3 dB(A)
72.9 dB(A)
Where does it say quiet mode was during a torture test?
I can't quite spot that in the quote.
Because thats how cards were tested lol
There was NO gaming tests back then.
In fact many sites dont have gaming test even today, just idle and torture because its still standard.
And for everyone "but its this kind of nois not that kind" definition of dB(A):
"The human hearing system has different
sensitivities at different frequencies. This means that the perception
of noise is not at all equal at every frequency. Noise with significant
measured levels (in dB) at high or low frequencies will not be as
annoying as it would be when its energy is concentrated in the middle
frequencies. In other words, the measured noise levels in dB will not
reflect the actual human perception of the loudness of the noise. That's
why we measure the dBA level. A specific circuit is added to the sound
level meter to correct its reading in regard to this concept. This
reading is the noise level in dBA. The letter A is added to indicate the
correction that was made in the measurement. Frequencies below 1 kHz
and above 6 kHz are attenuated, whereas frequencies between 1 kHz and 6
kHz are amplified by the A weighting."
290x:
Quiet Mode (Default)
33.4 dB(A)
45.2 dB(A)
1080FE: noise rises to 46.8 dB(A).
"This is a lot better than the cheap axial fans that AMD used to put on
its reference designs (and that some partners still use). In comparison,
the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080’s noise is tolerable."
Well, theres mass RMAs going on because of poor cooler/fan so it blew up in their face, just be wary of "tech review sites". And probably buy cards that you can RMA, especially 700$ ones.

Below you will read what they think the reviewer Tom's Hardware US, Chris Angelini....
I'd like to ask a question: Why did NVidia bribe Tom's Hardware to give Radeon 290X their elite award? It was quite a recommendation to the card, when at the end of review the reviewer says it's the first time a graphic card was given the award during the time she worked at Tom's Hardware.
@Malabooga, why does NVidia bribe Tom's Hardware to give AMD awards?
