It appears that Richard "Lord British" Garriott is selling vials of his blood on eBay for about $5,000. Buyers not only get the privilege of owning a piece of Lord British, but also get a slew of in-game items for his current project Shroud of the Avatar.

    I really wish consumers would stop giving a shit about the names and who is behind and only care about the actual products. Too often the ones who get credit for ideas are not those who actually come up with them, I wonder how much of this "fame" he has is actually deserved.

    No this is what is called a marketing ploy. Hench why they add items for the game and make sure to mention it by name.

    Make a spectacle and get "free" press coverage. Make sure that your name is linked to something memorable. 

    It is in fact pretty smart.

    and if those three happen to (for the sake of argument) head a big publication, YT(or similar) channel and a leading entertainer... They have the impact to spread said memories to hundreds of thousands of people.... 

    And let us be serious.... more than 3 people will remember thais. 

    Any way... it is marketing, it does nt have to make sense as long as it works. And since we are talking about it.. it did the trick.

    Figuring out how to use social media for free publicity  - it's a smart move.

    Look, I know that "marketing" is your new obsession and all, but this really has nothing to do with marketing. This is a desperate grab for some extra cash. This is the equivalent of the washed up former football player selling his super bowl ring on ebay because he's fallen on hard times.
