Gross, but all things aside. Less despicable and corrupt than selling pixel images of space ships.

    Woopity Shit

Give blood for free to the Red Cross to help people. That's the kind of thing that should be remembered. Selling vials of blood for 5k makes you look like a greedy bastard.

People really do have to get their heads out their asses.

Brilliant marketing strategy?  I'm not so sure... I think I would call it a risky marketing strategy.

Look, I know that "marketing" is your new obsession and all, but this really has nothing to do with marketing. This is a desperate grab for some extra cash. This is the equivalent of the washed up former football player selling his super bowl ring on ebay because he's fallen on hard times.

Ofc it is about money, in not it would have been a free raffle.... But as we tried to explain to you... It is also about generating awareness and anchoring your self in the mind of the public. Now what we could say is that it seems that general awareness of the game is dropping since he resorts to a stunt like this....

But it does not make it less of a marketing stunt. One does not exclude the other.

This have been a good conversation

    I have no words.
Sometimes it's not always about what you can see or hear but what's under the hood of a game that's most impressive. Between those thousands and thousands of lines of code, magic happens. Sometimes the most amazing feats of gaming wizardry happen without you even noticing.

I'm well aware of what you "tried to explain to me" lol, I'm just not buying it.

One man's "brilliant" is another man's "sick."

    It depends on one's values.

Well there is noting to buy on that level. You personal opinion on the matter is noted and largely irrelevant. You are aware no matter what you think about it... so it worked. =)

    Yep

From creating buzz and somehting that even 20 years from now people will be like "remember when British sold his blood?"
Yeah, all 3 people will be talking about it...

This is the kind of thing that goes into Wikipedia articles for anyone to reference for decades to come.

You are grossly underestimating the buzz this has already created, heck I can see memes about it already.

Figuring out how to use social media for free publicity  - it's a smart move.

He is not keeping any of the money - it's all done to promote his game.

99% won't look into it that far. The optics are terrible.

Given how seriously the healthcare industry takes bio-harzards and how much training and equipment that is used to minimize exposure to such materials, I have to wonder how wise something like this is.

News of this "promotion" will circulate in gaming communities, like this one, where people are already well aware of the game. This isn't generating any new buzz or interest in the game, which is why I say it has nothing to do with marketing, it's about milking some quick cash from people willing to buy such an oddity. Yes I'm aware of this promotion, but I was already aware of the game, and such a stunt would make me less likely to invest. So no, it didn't work  =)

    Absolutely !

This will probably do more to raise the public profile of SotA than all the previous marketing combined. Then again, that wouldn't be a hard goal to beat in any event.

This caper has renewed my interest in the game, however. It proves that Lord British is not a "spent force", he is obviously still capable of coming-up with original ideas, lol

Who knows, 500 years from now (after the Apocalypse), these vials may be revered relics in the temples built to honour "Lord British" ! :D

Yeah, all 3 people will be talking about it...
and if those three happen to (for the sake of argument) head a big publication, YT(or similar) channel and a leading entertainer... They have the impact to spread said memories to hundreds of thousands of people....

And let us be serious.... more than 3 people will remember thais.

Any way... it is marketing, it does nt have to make sense as long as it works. And since we are talking about it.. it did the trick.

    Did the stunt work?

This thread is self evident :pleased:
I think the impression this will make is shorter lived than what it would have been say 5 years ago. Too much ADHD in the internet these days.

How long before Chris Roberts starts selling JPGs of his blood?

I'm sure a lot of his old girlfriends will be buying the blood for DNA testing. :)
