Wow all these experts coming out of the wood works all of a sudden....

    ...

Do I believe any of them?
    Simple answer is no

    ...
Unless YOU happen to agree with what those "experts" are saying, of course.

In that case, they become the references that are used to back your own arguments... :D

    Real talk:

I am disappointed not by the missed deadlines, but by the way negative criticism is being handled. Showing what appears to be an emotional response to harsh scrutiny hurts SBS far, far more than missing their own ETA on a website.

I had no expectation the website would be done Friday, or this weekend. I don't care about that.

I do not expect it will release by the end of 2017 either. I don't care about that either.

    These things take time.

During that time, I hope SBS becomes stone-faced against what will only be harsher criticism, and during that time, i think everyone in this thread needs a rum and coke.
    More real talk:

The BEST thing that can come out of this is for SBS to now take a more reasonable/rational approach to their timeline and what will be included in the game.  Let them post THAT in a week and I will say they learned something from this fiasco.

When you take other people's money, you're gonna have to realize that they can say whatever they want to you. Mentioning that people complaining wont help, whether it being true or false, isn't professional. You counter complaints with facts and stats, not opinion or banter. People want proof that you're doing what you say you are going to do with it. They want progress, not excuses or a shoulder. As was mentioned earlier, if the company was funding the money themselves, sure they could tell the people whatever they want or make as many excuses as they want. However, when you're using someone else's money and then still trying to get more money out of people while only being able to provide apologies and excuses, you better take the teething ring out of your mouth and grow up, cause people want results.

I have to kinda agree, this is not the first time I have seen one of there people act condescending towards there would be customers, for a company that want's money for there game to be made they seem to have an odd way of going about it......

Too many 'experts' who know fuck all with an opinion because it is easy to criticize when you are an anonymous nobody on a website.
They are not making a MMORPG. I did go to college for programming back in 2001, I can make a storefront, brushed up on C#, HTML 5, Java, and could do the cold fusion backend and hit an SQL database. I also programmed MUDs in C++.

I don't know how many websites you have made but this is amateur hour for both of them. A website is no where near as complicated as a MMORPG.

Wow all these experts coming out of the wood works all of a sudden....

Strange they didn't mention their "experience" in he field all the other times they were asked.

Do I believe any of them?
    Simple answer is no

Longer answer is that it is easy to say your an expert of something, would love to see proof just like when all of you asked for proof that SBS had talented people in its staff.
Umm.. the only people SELLING stuff are CoE...
The only people promising to do amazing new things, in an amazingly short time, with an amazingly low budget are CoE...
The only people who have failed to deliver so far have been CoE...
The only people whining about how hard it is and how people shouldn't criticize them...yup.. that's CoE too

When I ask you to give me money I'll be happy to prove my credential.

    Rule #1
Say what you mean and do what you say

    Rule #2
When you fail at rule #1, apologize and take the criticism.  Don't whine about it.

Your claiming to be an expert prove it or shut up.
What I am claiming is that they failed on their first deliverable post kickstarter.. after delaying it multiple times.  I am also claiming that they were too concerned about the criticism they received for said failure.

Sorry if that offends you but do have a wonderful day!  <3

About 4 posts ago claimed to be an expert. Thr fact you "forgot" that makes me doubt you. Also since your unwilling to prove it also makes me doubt you.
I claimed I hired vendors to deliver projects.  What proof would you like and how would that impact the fact that CoE blew multiple deadlines and failed on thief first post Kickstarter deliverable?

If I send you my business card as the Director of Engineering for a company with billions in revenue would that somehow affect the failure of CoE?  If so send me your email and I'll happily scan it for you. Just not sure how relevant that is.  It's just you and Grumpy that seem obsessed with the credentials of posters.

Again in its the company that has made outlandish promises and it's the company that has badly failed their first test.
Some people want to take it and twist it around in order to make the situation someone else fault or those being critical are over reacting but in the mean time the fact remains that the project fails to deliver on more than one occasion and will continue to receive criticism until they actually deliver.

To be fair, they aren't "having trouble with a webpage."  They chose a vendor to provide  a storefront and that didn't work as intended.  If you are going to take someone's credit card number, you had better be sure your store module functions properly.  I see a greater potential problem here than a delay.  They made thee right call.

P.S. Who makes their own storefront anymore?  I want these people making the game I backed

Again.. nobody needs proof.  The PROOF is that their website and store is STILL down.  Thus they failed at their first deliverable.   End of story.  Whether I'm Bill Gates or Brad Pitt makes no difference to the discussion.

Um..hate to burst your bubble here, but this isn't their first time missing a date.

You remember their announcement about 'leaping such and so'?  You know their announcement that was coming out on Leap Day(Feb. 29)?  When did it actually come out?  Yeah  March 1.  When did they make this announcement about having a 'leap such and so?  Feb. 22.

We can go back further and discuss about how they were going to make a DJ about combat in November and it finally came out in March?

Ok time to put my "experience" forward I am studying a degree in computer science which includes programming if you didn't already know.

I fully understand that they teach multiple languages. But what I will disagree with there is no way they taught you java, html, and c++ in two years.

Also IF you had studied at college you would understand that people to become profficient in their field specialise in a specific style of programming and therefore someone who is an expert at developing games would not be an expert in web design.

I never said SBS couldn't fix the issues just that it was taking them longer because they are not experts in web design/programming

I am hopeful that they take this lesson to heart.. and take a critical eye to the promises they have made and the timeline they have committed to.   I'm hopeful that they learn from this fiasco and publish an updated, realistic schedule.  I'm hopeful they do this before they open the store and once again start to take people's cash.

Wow a company with billions of dollars of turnover....

Sure and that's why you spend all your time on these forums and in CoE's irc.
Do you have something to contribute to the topic?
Time to change the subject when someone calls you out yet again...

And if you want a contribution to this trolling topic.

Yes they missed their first self imposed target. Could they have done it better?
    yes.
Do I think the game won't be finished because of this?
No I believe it will be finished.
Do I think the game will be delayed past their eta?
    Possibly
Should Caspian have responded the way he did?
    No.

But if you actually explained the whole topic of conversation people would know.

    1) one remote developer had a power outage which caused issues.
    2) unforseen errors happened in the backend..
Do projects have unforseen issues. ... yes
    3) a team members family member was in hospital which again caused issues.
    4) caspian had been up 20+ hours trying to fix issues when he made that statement.

So when posting stuff how about posting all the information before slagging people off. Then maybe the "discussion" can be a fully informed one.
Er this post. Seems your the one that missed it
You made statements.  Do you want me to say they are wrong?  I don't see anything there that requires my response.  You get your own opinions.

Lol you have proven my previous points
OK maybe you can be clearer in what you want.   Here is a line by line response... hope this makes you feel better in some way (my responses in [ ]):

Yes they missed their first self imposed target. Could they have done it better?
    yes. [Agreed!]
Do I think the game won't be finished because of this?
No I believe it will be finished. [I believe they will launch SOMETHING but it will be incomplete and with numerous missing/non-functional systems]
Do I think the game will be delayed past their eta?
    Possibly [100% definitely]
Should Caspian have responded the way he did?
    No. [Agreed]

Not exactly inspiring a boat load of confidence if the team making a MMORPG has trouble with a webpage.
As inspiring as a website dedicated to reporting MMORPG's that can't even upgrade their own website...the ONLY thing they do?

Too many 'experts' who know fuck all with an opinion because it is easy to criticize when you are an anonymous nobody on a website.
They are not making a MMORPG. I did go to college for programming back in 2001, I can make a storefront, brushed up on C#, HTML 5, Java, and could do the cold fusion backend and hit an SQL database. I also programmed MUDs in C++.

I don't know how many websites you have made but this is amateur hour for both of them. A website is no where near as complicated as a MMORPG.
    And another programming expert.

If your such an expert at programming you would know that websites and gsmes are programmed totally different.

SBS doesnt have an expert web developer yet and therefore those that can programme have had to try and use their skills to fix the issues they have had with the site.

Yes an mmorpg is harder to code but the sort of coding that it requires is what they are good at
They tend to teach multiple programming languages  for any programming course. Also in many cases you can actually program games with languages for web design like java, in fact minecraft is programmed with Java. Then you have browser based games done in languages commonly used for web design.

Like some HTML 5 browser game engines.
    https://github.com/bebraw/jswiki/wiki/Game-Engines

If you are any type of respectable programmer you can figure out a website.

I'm not an expert but I do have 2 years of college and a lifetime of hobby programming along with work on MUDs.

I'm guessing your a first year student.

Edit, but hey I actually believe you when you say your studying. Went and got this picture of my graduation and getting my diploma with my brother. I\m the stoned guy on the right.

The fact that you only have limited theoretical knowledge and no practical business experience is of no concern to me.

The technical expertise aspects of the web store implementation are irrelevant.

What IS relevant is that SBS appear to have shown a complete lack of any project management skills.

They misjudged the features of the web store package that they had bought.
They misjudged the complexity of modifying it.
They misjudged the difficulty of implementing it.

The quality and reliability of their judgement is crucial to them meeting future deadlines. Much of what they promised relies on whether they have correctly judged the capabilities of the various off-the-shelf software solutions they have judged to be suitable for their needs.

So far their judgement has been atrocious.
