Welp, I just escalated my Paypal claim. Here's hoping to have my $60 out of these pirates' hands and back into my savings soon.
You can believe whatever you want; you can make whatever arguments you desire to defend this change. But the simple fact of the matter is this: we were charged a buy-to-pay fee under false pretenses - the promise that BDO would be altered (and REMAIN altered) to cater to western audiences, the bulk of whom do not suffer under P2W systems.
As Daum/Kakao saw fit to renege on previous statements upholding the sanctity of the non-P2W system, I consider the current changes to be a breach of our contract, and I expect my money returned. These dodgy Koreans can go suck eggs.
I don't disagree on the points you raise, but i wouldn't feel comfortable using them as a basis for a refund, as it could be argued that the time you have already spent in the game, assuming you were having fun playing the game, and if you weren't then thats a different matter anyway. But unless you made a purchase very recently, within the last few days at least, i'd be hesitant to suggest you have grounds for a refund, although if you had purchased pearls, which remained unspent, i would entirely agree that you would be able to use the changes to the game as grounds for getting a refund on those alone. Refunds/Chargebacks are an iffy one, you have to be absolutely sure that you have grounds for obtaining them. Refunding a game several months after the fact, i can't really see how that could be justified without some fairly extenuating circumstances.
If anything this is making black desert less pay to win. Since now all players have the opportunity to have anything in the pearl shop for the price of in game currency.
You know that's how just about every P2W game that sells items in a cash shop works.

I agree with @Phry here. And let's be honest. @Lleith , You have been fairly open about your dislike for this game all along. You've never liked BDO and had stopped playing for some time. I don't want to state something about you that is incorrect, I am just going by what I've read so far, so please correct me if I am wrong.
My point is, if you'd already stopped playing because you didn't like the game the way it was before the announcement, then really, how much has this latest move on Kakau's part affected you personally? If not so much, then what's the real reason for this decision?
(It's a rhetorical question. I know, you want to send a message to these developers) I just wonder if this is the best way to do that.
"I love black desert, but the game does have its problems in the fact that it is gear based and not skill based".
I always tell people in-game... "I like BDO and its graphics and the fact its a sandbox game".
Sorry to burst your bubble but BDO is not a sandbox game. It might have a few sandbox elements, but it is essentially a themepark. You contradict yourself from the first statement with the second.
As to the pay-to-win argument, I find that pretty weak. Sure people can find ways to make it so, but it is not an immediate gain, it requires major manipulation.
As to the game, it has no end game. The only way to distinguish your character looks is through expensive outfits on the store. Kind of silly to make such a pretty game and then put all the character looks behind a pay wall.
Basically I stopped playing because of the way they monetized it. If you still enjoy the game have fun with it, that is what games are for, but don't come here and say what a great game it is when they basically put out an half finished game in my mind.
I can't vouch for every single mmo listed in there, but if i had to list some though, i would say Runes of Magic, Allods, or Perfect World. I've only played Perfect World (around 7 years ago), so it's probably changed since then, but that was definitely P2W since higher stats on weapons could only be bought with real money.
P2W definitely exists in a lot of mobile/facebook/zynga games too. Some of those are true P2W games if i've ever seen any.
The first game mentioned in the thread you linked is Arche Age for it's thunder trees you can still earn in game. You just proved my point.
Edit: I think more importantly they describe exactly how making that item available on the cash shop devalued the in-game item.
You didn't prove anything. I listed three games, not Archeage. I even said, "I can't vouch for every single mmo listed in there".
Hey bud, you got something to counter what I said, say it. Don't hide behind your chickenshit LOLs.
Counter what? Games, sports, hobbies and all are subject of money driven world. Your bubble is nice but nonetheless true.
It is still amusing to watch though.
What's amusing is watching you guys totally miss the point that good games create their own universes with their own rules, logic and morality and that injecting your preferred RL shortcuts into them are alien to the game's internal consistency and integrity.
Have some more kool-aid.

All I see is the same old idiots who want to pretend playing 49 hours a week to my 10 aren't paying to win. The only difference is you are paying with your life blood. Your not better than me you are simply out "timing" me. Now that players can close the gap with money they made from spending time working you all cry its p2w, when that is all you have ever done is pay with your life blood to win.
So boo hoo suddenly you can't out time me so you cry because you are all children. Get off your lazy asses go get a job instead of sitting in moms basement playing a video game 60 hours a week and pretending you have skill of any sort but being a useless lazy sack of crap with a big mouth on the Internet.
Yeah.. pretty sure we run on different principles / mentality... if i am waiting in line for something and someone cuts in front of me , i usually voice myself
Except you are in one line (your own) and they are in a different one, what difference to you if they get there first, they aren't slowing your line at all.
That's where u are wrong , they are in my line ... u cannot see it but trust me they are:) I soled my account after 2 weeks of playing this game because i honestly new that the so called one time payment wasn't going to happen. I only rant about this issue because i know there are allot of people that invested way way more then i did into the game and i know how i would feel if i knew that my +15 world boss weapon or w/e that i have spent hundreds of hours to get and it was pure rng luck that i got it because i have friends that have been playing 5 times the amount of time i have and have yet to get +15... do u see where i am going?
The moment you pretend sitting in front of your computer grinding in a game equate "earning" anything is the moment you need to re evaluate your life and re attach yourself to reality. You didn't earn anything you just sat around being useless wasting a lot of time doing nothing productive.
For those who set themselves goals to be the amongst the "elite" i.e. beat just about everyone else to this or that, they will probably feel aggrieved. For the rest who just want to enjoy the game without worrying about what everyone else is doing, there will be little or no impact.
Player X get's to endgame , spends xxxxxx amount of hours to grind gold to get upgrades etc
Player Y just bought the game , creates a level 1 character and get's the same gear as player X in a couple of minutes.
Enough said.
Player X has not paid for their game time and are playing for free. They are entitled to nothing. The purpose of P4F gamers is to lose to the paying customers. They aren't entitled to win, and sure as snot shouldn't expecty to. The days of access to everything free are number, and about to come to an end.
Listen, BDO is B2P. P4F gamers aren't playing BDO, so their cries of P2W are meaningless. They are wait for the day that BDO goes F2P so they can start to play. Then drive any money making items from the cash shop, so the producers will cancel the game. All part of the P4F agenda to ruin gaming and MMO gaming. By denying game makers a revenue stream.
Isn't P4F's something that the industry created themselves?
If your game doesn't make enough money, just maybe... it's their own damn fault and their own damn fuckup.

No. It's the fault of the gamers demanding that all features be available to them for free.

Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.

Lol not the kind of customers I would want. Sorry but it's the game companies that opened up that whole Pandora's box up to begin with.
Personally I don't play F2P games, I don't find them enjoyable for many reasons. I want a purchase price with a sub whether it be optional or not and a game worth playing.
Cash shops are a big turn off as far as I'm concerned but it's something I have to put up with in these times.

No it is not pay to win, many paid, no one won except people who could not afford real money for cash shop items. They too now can buy the stuff. The sky did not fall.

You're trying to spin this to fit your agenda. How many times do i have to say, "I can't vouch for every single mmo listed in there"? I never specifically said the first post, or Archeage, so now you're trying to discredit me over it. It's a silly argument.
I gave you three other titles. You can go verify them if you want, if it's really that important to you. Again, i've only played Perfect World out of those three, but next you'll be saying i played Allods or Runes of Magic. That's where your logic is at right now.

Yeah but it's not just those 3 games mentioned in that thread, is it, no it isn't. Those are just the most P2W possible but in the very thread you use to defend yourself the first game talked about contradicts you. I could continue reading more of it and I'm sure I would find more examples.
Why would you link to something that supports my agenda?
Probably because tons of people think paying cash to get an advantage is P2W. Which you proved by linking that reddit thread.

That's exactly how those cheaters around that is using doping to get shortcuts to their performance thinks... Hey you are not better then me, I am just not really to train as hard so I will buy some steroids instead to put my up at the same ranks as you...
There is a reason why it's not allowed in sport, and it shouldn't be allowed in games either.
And no, as I mentioned in my previous post I am not a no lifer... I have basically two evenings each week that I can play, and those spending countless of hours will always be better then me, but hey you know I still enjoy playing!

Other than the fact that the company gets the money and not some gold farming sweat shop owner, and that you don't have to risk your credit and identity, someone please tell me how this is different, from a game play perspective, than just outright buying gold.
Is buying gold a cool thing to do now in games? You guys kill me with your rationalizations about this and your ever so careful attempts to give it another name: you're buying gold and fuck the game's integrity.
This. Screw the analogies and excuses, this is what is going on here...bottom line. This used to be wildly unacceptable to 90% of western gamers. Things appear to be changing to a more 70%/30% split. Give it a few more years and I think buying gold with RL money will be no big deal...it's a shame where it is all heading imo.
Because people define pay to win differently.
Some people define pay to win as being able to level up faster. I do not (unless, like BDO, the game offers unlimited levels). Most MMOs use level caps, so this is not eggregious to me.
Some people consider economic advantages like additional bag space or extra trading post usage to be pay to win. In the typical MMO, I do not.
Some people consider buying gold to be pay to win. I do not. In fact, in the typical MMO, I prefer having currency conversion as an option. I like being able to convert gold to cash shop currency to buy items I could not otherwise obtain without shelling out real money.
So what do I consider to be pay to win? The only thing that is objectively pay to win. That is the ability for one player to buy something that gives them a combat advantage over a player of the same level that the second player cannot reasonably earn.
So is there a line to cross, for me, with the earlier topics? Yes. Context is important.
In a game like Guild Wars 2, where power curves are relatively flat, pvp is standardized, and the current BiS gear is easy to obtain and will never become outdated, it is not pay to win to buy levels, gold, or economic advantages.
In a game like WoW, the same things are more questionable because the game raises its level cap on a semi-regular basis. It's still in the realms of reasonability, however, as catching up well before the next cap raise is a fairly reasonable process. I'd still argue that sub games should not have cash shops at all, but that's not part of the topic at hand.
BDO, on the other hand, makes these same concepts abject pay to win due to its limitless grind curve. There is no way to catch up to the wealthy or hardcore players. They will always be able to gain some advantage and this is why unlimited levels and a gear refinement system - even with diminishing returns - are gamebreaking design that I am glad that the genre has mostly moved away from.

We
understand that many players disagree with our latest changes, and we
have been gathering your feedback about this since the announcement. From this feedback, we have adjusted and limited the system to the following: -
Only Pets, Outfits, Horse Gear and the Value Pack can be listed on the
marketplace. Functional costumes will be excluded for trading (Splat
Fisher’s Clothes, Treant Camouflage, Venia Riding, Desert Camouflage,
Venecil Dress, Karki and Canape). - A maximum of 5 Pearl Shop items a week can be registered per account. -
The prices or Pearl items have been capped at a fair price which makes
it hard to gain a high amount of silver by selling them on the
marketplace.
With this change, we attempt to make some of the
cash shop items more accessible to players that are otherwhise unable to
get them. We hope that you are also understanding towards these
players. Ofcourse, we care about all manner of players, regardless of
how they choose to experience the game, so we are doing our best to
adjust this system to be as fair as possible. If you have any more
suggestions for us to improve this, please do leave your feedback in the
