So, here we have five pages of a thead labelled as a "No Man's Sky Review thread" where virtually none of the people contributing their mostly negative opinions have actually played the game! Conversely, the positive reviews have mostly been coming from people who have. Perhaps there's something to learn right there?
Personally, I started playing around half an hour after release, which was a surprise in itself when I think about some of the other games I've bought in the past few years that were completely unplayable the first day at all. I did have a problem initially in as much as I got a blank screen other than ther word "Initialising" which obviously wasn't going away after hanging there for five minutes. A quick visit to Google solved that problem when I discovered I needed to press and hold the "E" key. The next time I pressed that key, the game opened but only in a small window taking around a quarter of my monitor screem and no way I could find to resize it on the fly. So I reset all the graphic options changing the resolution to 3840x 3160, which is the native resolution of my monitor and set the other options to high and the FPS to 60. I restarted the game and straight away everything worked OK with no lag or stuttering. I played it for four hours without any problems at all.
This morning I started the game up and thought to open the Steam overlay so I could see the FPS and was surprised to see it was only 25 FPS considering how smooth eveything was. So I changed the resolution to 2560 x 1600, restarted the game and was back to the quarter sized screen. It had been running bordered, so I changed it to full screen and that problem was cured and my FPS had increased to 45 or so. I presume if I change it again to 1920 x 1080 I should get something like 60 FPS but quite honestly I'm happy how it is. A game like this doesn't need high frame rates. I see Geforce Experience has added optimisation for this game today and recommends 1920 x 1080 so I may try it.
As for the game itself, it's great and just what I was expecting. I've got ED and wasn't expecting something similar, It's a lightweight game but there's plenty to keep me occupied. After 8 hours, I still haven't run out of things to do and find on the starter planet. My ship's fully repaired now though and I will probably set off in search of a space station to clear out some of my inventories, which are completely full.
I would definitely recommend this game to anyone that likes exploring and mining games such as Trove, Minecraft, even Landmark. The base building is coming soon apparently.
My rig is i7-4770, GTX 970, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro.
So i have ran into an issue that is the single-save thing this has, i completely bugged myself somehow on both saves and i just appear stuck inside some mountain or something.
I'm trying to figure out how to delete the game's save to start clean again...
Games that release in alpha are suicidal. People download them, bitch, and delete. Release a full game if you care about impressing your audience.
NMS isn't an alpha, nor a beta tbh, its the released code, but poorly optimised by the looks of things. Hopefully the game will be fixed in short order, i doubt Hello Games will want to experience the Arkham Knight level of pain that WB did after the game suffered a massive amount of refund requests on Steam (which granted them) its just really weird though how random the problems are with the game, there doesn't seem to be a particular hardware combination that is exempt, but that its a matter of luck alone whether the game works properly, truly bizarre.

So you've played it then? I think not. Too many opinions from people not having played it. You can't have the experience by watching someone else.
Sounds more like denial tbh, the internet is a wonderful resource tool, and it is always a good idea to research something if your unsure about it, and this can often allow you to make those purchases knowing what problems there may be, far better than buying something blind and just hoping for the best. As it is there are numerous video's out there now that give players a reasonably good idea of what they will be buying into.
Curiosity is the keyword. I've been running around on the starter planet for 5+hours now. Curiosity as in what do I stumble on around the next corner of this cave.
NMS is not an arcade space shooter nor a Halo like FPS. It does not have the Tomb Raider / Trove / Landmark parkour surface exploring.
My rating is WIP : 6.5/10
Pros: -Chill game -Endless Exploring / Discoveries -Learning alien languages -Naming discoveries
Cons: -Inventory is too small at start (and most likely the entire game) -Ammo, upgrades and fuel are lost when acquiring new multi-tool/ship -Crafting requires free inventory space -Finding all species on planet (stuck forever on 8/9) -Performance drops after 30 mins ingame
When they polish and add some quality of life patches, my rating will go up.

"Your opinion is invalid because you haven't played" That's just a bullshit statement that sounds good spoken by someone who doesn't like the opinion stated. A cheap measure to silence other people.
Fact is, video games are not rocket science. Most components in these games are not new. What's so EFFING different about NMS that someone who hasn't played survival/crafting/exploration games can't do a little research on NMS, and be able to come up with an accurate expectation? I see nothing in NMS that is so wildly different than what I've seen in other games I've played that make question my opinion of NMS.
Which is "It looks OK, I'll wait until it's cheaper" (And fixed)
Same deal as Elite Dangerous. Lots of options. None of them worth spending precious time on.
I hated ED with a passion and it ranks as my biggest ever waste, right from the off. Loving this game and very glad to have bought it.
Hmm...yeah but you're less than 24 hours in. I was fascinated by Elite:dangerous for days before I 'saw behind the wizard's curtain' so-to-speak.
Well I didn't like ED from the very first minute until I gave up around 40 hours. I loved NMS right away so it's all about tastes.
Hmm cool, might give it a go so...I am sorely tempted, my finger has been hovering over the buy button on steam for hours but that €59.99 is very intimidating
I wasnt going to get NMS , was going to wait and see how it was received, But as i was reading all the terrible reviews from people having trouble running it and crashes, I was curious if i could run it ... So ... Bought it .. lol
After messing with the settings just a bit , i have it running nice and CANT STOP PLAYING it wtf
Good game , great for the explorer/discoverer with some some well done resource gathering and system (ground /air ) upgrades ....
Now Hello Games needs to pump out some patches to optimize abit , but thats to expected these days ..
Well I've got to go out tonight with the wife but will be back on it when I get home. I can't put the game down and there is so much to aim for and work towards that the haters surely a) haven't players it or b) bought a game that's not for them anyway or c) haven't got the spec to run it properly or d) haters gonna hate.
i love it and this is officially my favourite game. Exploring and finding so much variety, upgrades, weapons, ships, npcs, caves, materials, crafting, making places after my family - I just think that if you gave up after 2 hours, it was never gonna be your thing and you won't have even scratched the surface. Am still only on my second planet and so much still to do.
15 hours so far and I've not finished my starter planet yet, lol
I'l get my money's worth out of NMS without a doubt.
Not a single crash yet for me, but I restart the game every hour or so, because I have noticed some slowdown with longer sessions. There's definitely room for improvement, but nothing I'd call game-breaking on my end.
So i have ran into an issue that is the single-save thing this has, i completely bugged myself somehow on both saves and i just appear stuck inside some mountain or something.

Saved game on PC gog version is c/users/username/appdata/roaming/hellogames/nms then delete the defaultuser folder.
My problem is I can't for the life of me figure out how to take a screenshot with the gog version, I even tried using shareX and it just give me a blacked out image, I'm playing in FSD of course.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
I've been too busy playing NMS to read forums much since yesterday. I was amazed that I began to download the game at 10:01 AM my time within one minute of PC launch and I was actually playing by 10:04 with no bugs or technical issues at all.
I've avoided reading reviews and I just know I'm having a blast so far. I've only just started on my second planet in my starting solar system and I love how I'm not competing with other players for anything so I can take my sweet time.
Plus, on my second planet I ran across plants that closely resemble glazed donuts on platters. I feel like I found Homer Simpson's dream planet.

I don't know what the GOG version is but if you use alt + prt Scr on your keyboard that will copy it to the clipboard. Then go to your photo editing program and paste it as a new image. That works for me. Also, the Steam overlay if you activate it, has a screenshot function that defaults to the F12 key. I haven't tried that one myself though.
NMS is a great game, it is the game Elite Dangerous is trying to be, and NMS is trying to be Elite Dangerous. In a sense both these games are great games but both are still incomplete. NMS needs MP added to it, and we need more interaction between players and the aliens and creatures we encounter. ED needs to have the one thing NMS has - and that is we can get out and walk around and explore stuff. Planets in NMS are not dead worlds with no atmosphere - they are actually worlds with flora and fauna. NMS we need to be able to see our avatars so we can feel even more connected with the game.
So here is how I see it right now. Give me a game built around NMS/ED and Star Citizen and then we're golden. As it is right now, ED is lacking, NMS is lacking, and SC is lacking. Bad thing is we once had a game that was all these and more - it was called Star Wars Galaxy(pre-NGE) and it had everything NMS has, ED has, and SC has - too bad it was ruined and is no more.
I'm hoping the creators of NMS see what they have and expand upon it. It could give games like ED and SC a run for their money. Just add more player friendly content, add more crafting, add more ship options, add base building and above all else - add multiplayer or co-op(this is a must!)
I'd just like to add a note here. I'd give NMS a score of 7.5 out of 10 easily. Been having a great time playing it. 13hrs all ready and counting. Game is fun to me and that is all that really matters in the end.
What I find sad and pathetic is all the people that do not even have the game givng crappy bullcrap reviews they are pulling off a few streamed videos.
The reality is the game is EPIC, play it more than a day, explore more than one planet, and you will see huge variety in NPCs, planets, and creatures.
I have it on both the ps4 and pc and really can not decide which version I like best. I will say its is a hell of a lost easier to scan flying creatures on the PC, takes forever to get the hit box on the PS4.
Flight controls are alot tighter on the PS4, can't tell you how many times I end upside down turning on the PC.
Graphics of course are sharper on the pc, and colors a bit bolder, but at the price of things not necessarily always drawing in, in a timely manner.
People telling you the game is ugly or boring are idiots or liars, put 100+ hours into the game like I have then you may start to have an inkling of the real depth of this game.
Are there things the game is lacking, of course. I have already started a list of things that would be really cool, but stop for a second and consider the enormity of the FACT they launched a game of this magnitude with very few bugs, stable servers, and all on only a 5 gb client. I mean consider the scope and then take your negative reviews and shove them right up your hairy butts where they belong.
Oh and another thing. the Sci fi references in the trophies and titles are awesome. I am sure 90% of them slip right past most of you, but so far I've seen a lot of Heinlein, Douglas Adams, Asminov, Verne, and Herbert. I was hoping for a " Cat who walks thru walls " for blowing your way into enough bases but nothing yet.
