I'm always weirded out when I see people complain about male protagonists, as if all of us women want to play as an action girl. Their aim with this title was to explore male bonding and friendship (and they never alluded to anything else), which is honestly something I've never seen done well in video games. They tend to paint most males as 2 dimensional meatheads, and I can't speak for men (or even Americans for that matter since I am not) but I did grow up with five brothers. I for one look forward to this game since it will give me a glimpse into something I know nothing about. Especially after dealing with Lightning for three games. Female or not, she was a shitty protagonist.
And for the people complaining about having "no reason to come back to a FF these days after you beat it", I had no desire to return to any of the "great" Final Fantasies after beating the optional bosses. So your nostalgia-ridden comments are a little skewed.
The point is they didn't need to make "action girls", they could have made Luna or Stella as better characters than Lightning... Why not do a character switch and let Luna be playable? I miss switching characters like in FF10...
